Giants lose to the Ravens 37-14.
Eli Manning completed 4 of 18 passes for 27 yards and 2 interceptions.
Eli Manning fell to 0-4 as a starter.
Kurt Warner completed 6 of 9 passes for 127 yards.
Osi Umenyiora had a 50 yard fumble return for a touchdown.
Tiki Barber rushed 19 times for 55 yards and 1 touchdown.
Jeremy Shockey caught 5 passes for 83 yards.
Amani Toomer had 2 catches for 53 yards.
Game Notes:
"The Giants started by fumbling the opening kickoff, and the Ravens quickly turned that into a 7 point lead. Next series Tiki Barber just couldn't help himself, and out of respect for
his old coach watching on the sideline, Tiki fumbled and lost the ball for the first time this year. Next, Manning was intercepted, and before you knew it, the Ravens were up 17-0. The Giants
were getting bad breaks and bad calls from the refs. The game almost turned when the Ravens showed they had no respect for the Giants by going for it on a 4th down and 5. The defense sacked
Boller and Osi Umenyiora took it 50 yards for a touchdown. Still, the Giants were down 27-7 at the half and they didn't look like they were going to be making any kind of comeback, especially
when Tiki Barber fumbled yet again in the fourth quarter."
"The good thing about an 'away' game is that when things get out of hand, you can switch it off. Of course, then you know you just
have to peek, and good thing too. This way you got to see that the Giants have some life. Kurt Warner came in, and where Eli Manning looked indecisive, Kurt looked in full command. He was
mobile. His passes had zip, and he got the ball to Shockey 4 times and Toomer once for 41 yards."
Game Notes:
"I thought the onfield pregame interview with Jim Fassel was interesting, and I do agree with him that the players didn't quit on him last year. The Giants were just a beaten down team
with way too many injuries, fielding inexperienced players, much the same as they are now. As Fassel said, these players won't quit on Tom Coughlin either, and they did their best, playing
against the team that beat them in the Super Bowl a few years back. The gameplay was sloppy at times, but I thought the offensive line gave Manning some time to be effective, although he wasn't."
"Eli didn't have it today, and I was thinking that Kurt Warner might as well stay home after Coughlin failed to swap him out once
Manning lost the ball on a fake to Barber late in the third quarter. It was clear that his concentration was off at that point and this game was way over his head.
For the good of the team, both on offense and defense, Manning belonged on the sidelines as an onlooker, just watching instead of making decisions which he could not make today.
Coughlin finally thought so too, because he inserted Kurt Warner in the fourth quarter, and the offense immediately became effective. With Pittsburgh coming up next week, it might be a good
idea to take the pressure off and sit Manning out. Warner looked much better himself for getting a four game rest, and maybe it will help Manning in the long run."
