Giants lose to the Eagles 31 - 17.
Kurt Warner completed 16 of 28 passes for 203 yards.
Eli Manning was 3-of-9 for 66 yards.
Tiki Barber rushed for 125 yards on 9 attempts, and 1 TD.
Tiki Barber also had 5 catches for 75 yards.
Ron Dayne rushed for 45 yards on 13 attempts, and 1 TD.
Steve Christie kicked a 53-yard field goal.
Game Notes:
"The Giants were ahead for awhile on Ron Dayne’s 3 yard touchdown run, but that didn't last long. Overall Dayne had a good outing with his 13 carries, but Tiki Barber hardly took a back
seat. For all Tom Coughlin alluded to about Barber being overused by Jim Fassel, Tiki had 9 carries and 5 catches for a total of 200 yards.
These newly put together Giants were no match for the Eagles this time out. What could you expect with a new head coach, new quarterbacks and something like 22 new players on the roster? They
played their best, but the defense still tackled poorly and gave up too many big plays.
The offense had some good moments, and it was exciting to see Eli Manning come into the game. Even though his first handoff play to Tiki Barber went for a 72 yard touchdown, I doubt there
will be a quarterback controversy. Eli got slammed pretty good on the last play of the game, and Warner seems to know better how to take a hit and when to duck."
Game Notes:
"I thought Kurt Warner did an OK job although he made a few of the characteristic mistakes he tends to make. He held the
ball too long a few times and his concentration seems to be way too focused elsewhere when the world is collapsing around him. Warner's stats would have been better, and the score maybe closer
if the receivers hadn't dropped a few of his passes.
Terrell Owens was obviously a big plus for the Eagles, and more than our defense could handle especially with the Giants hurting in the secondary. Cornerback Will Allen didn't play the last
two weeks and was a game-time decision, and backup Frank Walker was found to have a broken bone in his right foot.
Michael Strahan didn't look too happy from the shots you caught of him on camera. Don't tell him that this isn't a rebuilding
year for the Giants when he's running all over the field trying to cover for some of the others. Even Kurt Warner seemed bummed when Coughlin gave Manning some playing time at the end of the
game. I thought he was on board for this, knowing his 'role'. As for Tom Coughlin - well, he always looks like that.
Anyway, if the offense can play just a little bit better, and the defense maybe even better than that, we'll have a real game going with the Redskins when the Giants open at the Meadowlands
next week."
