Giants - Packers
Game 4 preview

Sun Oct 3, 1:00 pm (FOX) - Giants at Green Bay

Giants at Green Bay.
The Packers are coming off two losses and the Giants off two wins. Will the streaks continue? It's tough for opposing teams to win at Lambeau Field where from 1992-2003, the Packers led the league with a 73-14 record in their stadium. In fact, the last time the Giants won a game there was in 1971, but don't panic, this will be only their third visit to Lambeau Field since then.
Let's just say that after these first three weeks this game looks a bit better to the Giants and their fans than it did when they first laid eyes on the season schedule.

Quarterbacks.
Green Bay lost on the road to the Colts 45-31, and In losing, Brett Favre completed 30-of-44 passes for 358 yards and 4 touchdowns. Giant fans can only hope that Eli Manning can one day soon live up to what his brother Peyton was able to do in that game, bettering his elite adversary by throwing for 393 yards and 5 scores. Luckily, Kurt Warner has shown everyone these past few weeks that he too still has quite a bit left, because it will be him leading the Giants this week against a frustrated 1-2 Packers team on their home turf.

Green Bay on offense.
There is no lack of offense on this team. Brett Favre rules in the air attack with his group of talented receivers, Javon Walker (11 catches for 198 yards and 3 touchdowns last week), Donald Driver, Robert Ferguson and Antonio Chatmanrule. On the ground Ahman Green runs the show so to speak. He's 2nd in the NFC with 314 rushing yards and has 2 rushing touchdowns, and scored another on a pass reception. Green takes advantage of a great offensive line where unlike the Giants, Green Bay's five blockers have been perfecting their game for four long years of working together as a solid unit.
The offense is also very good at protecting Brett Favre. Green Bay has given up only 3 sacks so far this season, which ranks them fourth in the NFL. There is some bad new though. Just this Friday, the Packers announced that center Mike Flanagan will be facing season-ending knee surgery. Rookie center Scott Wells will be coming off the practice squad to take his place in this week's game.

Green Bay on defense.
The Packers are ranked 21st in the NFL in yards allowed (353.3 a game) and 30th in points allowed (26.7), They are playing without starting nose tackle Grady Jackson and backup James Lee which obviously hurts their game. Green Bay's starting left cornerback Mike McKenzie missed last week’s game and is listed as questionable this week because of a strained hamstring. Their entire defense has come up with only three sacks this season which is equal to what Michael Strahan has going into this game.

Some possible Monday morning headlines - you pick.
Brett Favre loses in another shoot-out with Kurt Warner.
Giants catch up with Eagles in week 4, tied for NFC East top spot at 3-1
Strahan shows sacking Favre can be habit forming.
Eli picks up where brother left off in Lambeau field.
Giants revert to earlier form, lose big on the road.

Notes.
Kurt Warner has not thrown an interception in his first three games.
Last week Amani Toomer caught five passes for 126 yards.
The Giants are 11-9 in games in which Toomer has at least 100 receiving yards. .
Last time these two teams played Michael Strahan sacked Brett Favre for a 7-yard loss.
That sack gave Strahan a league-record 22.5 sacks for the season, eclipsing Mark Gastineau’s 17-year-old standard of 22 sacks.
Tom Coughlin was the Packers’ receivers coach in 1986 and 1987.
Brett Favre is making his 193rd consecutive start.
Green Bay Packers have never lost three consecutive games with Mike Sherman as coach.

Next Game.
Oct 10, Giants at Dallas 1:00 PM - FOX.
The Cowboys 21-18 win last week over Washington cost them two starters for the rest of the season.
Cornerback Pete Hunter and former Giant tight end Dan Campbell were placed on injured reserve because of injuries suffered during the game.
