Game Notes:
"Wow, what a game! The Giants didn't just survive this game. They flat out won it, from a team that was mostly expected to beat
them hands down. Even though you knew the Giants had injuries last week to top players, and the Chiefs scored first, you kind of had the feeling that the Giants weren't going to go down easy,
especially when they held the Chiefs to a field goal instead of a touchdown. The fans were into it. The players were into it, and they kept coming up with the big plays when they needed it.
The Giants were up 10-3 at the end of the half, and the Chiefs came back for an opening drive touchdown at the beginning of the third quarter, but they couldn't sustain that pace, even with
Larry Johnson running the ball as much as he did. There was lots of hustle on the field and the players were all in tune. Corey Webster caught an interception, and it was called back because
Osi Umenyiora hit Trent Green a little too hard, but James Butler came back on the very next play and caught one that counted.
It will be almost impossible to forget the way Tiki Barber shook off tackles on his 41 yard touchdown run, and the way Amani Toomer picked himself up inches off the ground and ran the ball
in for his touchdown. It was an exciting game to watch, and most important, the Giants really look like a playoff team."
Game Notes:
"You can make being the head coach of the Giants as easy or as hard a job as you want. Early
on in the season, Tom Coughlin had to be prodded to help his young quarterback Eli Manning out - 'Just give the ball to Tiki'. It took a while, but Coughlin has finally learned not to overlook
such raw talent staring him right in the face. Now he gives the ball to Tiki, and he sticks with it, and low and behold, things turn out great - well, big surprise.
In the first quarter, Chiefs running back Larry Johnson's stats looked great in comparison to Tiki Barber, and he did end up with 176 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, but that was nothing.
Tiki Barber finished with a team-record 220 yards on 29 carries and he scored 2 touchdowns. Make no mistake though. This was a full team effort, Amani Toomer came through with some solid catches,
as well as Jeremy Shockey. Plaxico Burress had some big blocks for Tiki. Fill-in players like Chase Blackburn, who took a tremendous hit in the second quarter, just kept on ticking. To be
fair, all the players were properly prepared by Tom Coughlin for this game against the Chiefs, and it really showed."
