Game Notes:
"Wow, what a game! From the somber opening moments reflecting on Wellington Mara, to the sudden jolt of Tiki Barber's electrifying
57 yard run on the offense's very first play of the game, it was a sign that this would be a day for all Giants fans to remember. The players were as emotionally strained as the fans and they
really brought it on to the field. 'Cool Hand Eli" didn't have the best completion numbers today, but he got the ball to the right people at the right time, guiding the team down the
field for one first down after another. Tiki was the featured attraction and he ran for 206 yards. The Giants inched up the score slowly until the game was finally out of reach, with Jay Feeley
kicking 5 field goals, and Tiki Barber, Brandon Jacobs and Jeremy Shockey all scoring touchdowns.
The defense played heads-up football and looked like a new unit compared to the way they had been playing all this year. They had always showed the hustle, but today they had it directed in
all the right places. The Redskins could barely get a first down and Mark Brunell, sacked three times, was on the run all day. Later, Patrick Ramsey came in and he was sacked twice while sparking
the team a bit, getting them into scoring range. Antonio Pierce Pierce clearly had something to prove against his former team, and he even came away with an interception against them. That
was just one of four turnovers they came up with. This was a game that Wellington Mara would have loved."
Game Notes:
"Whether they were inspired, or just glad to focus solely
on football for a change, the players turned in a truly amazing game. Tiki Barber fueled the offense right from the start, and the defense was determined to give up nothing, which is just what
they did. The Redskins finished with zero points, and this was not accomplished against a team that just quit on the game. The Redskins tried everything in an effort to move the ball, and their
defense dragged themselves on the field time after time in an effort to stop the Giants to no avail.
The Giants were unstoppable today, and you really have to give credit to Joe Gibbs who late in the game refused to take meaningless 3 easy points just to avoid a shutout. Gibbs doesn't play
'politically correct' football. He plays to win, and he sent a strong message out to his team. 'Never give up on a game'. That will do much more for his players than three points on a scoreboard
as they move on from this loss and get ready to face some tough competition - Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, Oakland, San Diego, and St. Louis. In honor to Wellington Mara, the Giants team held a
Joe Gibbs team to a shutout for the first time ever in a regular season game, and in turn Joe Gibbs should also be honored today for playing Wellington Mara style football."

Notes:
Joe Gibbs was shutout for the first time in 207 regular season games as an NFL head coach.
The only other time was a 17-0 loss to the Giants in the 1986 NFC Championship Game (Jan. 11, 1987).
Antonio Pierce, playing against his former team for the first time, had a team-high 11 tackles (7 solo), an interception and two passes defensed.
Jay Feely's first two field goals extended his streak of successes to 13 in a row this season and 14 straight dating back to last year.
This was the Giants first shutout in seven years.
Eli Manning's 3rd-quarter touchdown pass to Jeremy Shockey, was the 8th consecutive game in which he threw for a score.
Giants rushed for 262 yards, the 8th-highest total in team history and their highest total since they ran for 289 yards vs. Pittsburgh on Dec. 31, 1985.
Giants defense held the Redskins to 125 total yards.
That was the smallest output by an opponent since the Vikings gained 114 yards in the NFC Championship Game and the smallest in a regular season game since Dallas had 108 yards on Dec. 16,
1989.
Tiki Barber rushed for a career-high 206 yards, the 2nd-highest total in Giants history.
Gene “Choo Choo” Roberts holds the record with 218 yards against the Chicago Cardinals on Nov. 12, 1950.
Tiki Barber has accounted for the Giants last 22 100-yard rushing games.
After Tiki Barber's 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, Barber sprinted to the Giants sideline and handed the ball to Tim McDonnell, one of Wellington
Mara's 40 grandchildren.
