Game Notes:
"It was a noisy day at the stadium, and the Cowboys were hit with a false start penalty on their very first play. That encouraged
the crowd and except for a few strange penalties by the Giants, they owned the Cowboys in the first half. It was exciting to see Brandon Jacobs power the ball in for the Giants first touchdown
from the one yard line, and then again on a third and one to make a first down. It was great when Antonio Pierce picked up
a fumble and ran it in for a touchdown, just as the second half was starting, but right after that, something happened and the Giants turned into a pumpkin. The offense didn't score any more
points for the rest of the game, and the defense let Dallas get two scores in the third quarter to make it close at 17-10.
It was a good thing the defense held in the fourth quarter, because it was looking like it was going to be one of those games, if you know what I mean. It went back and forth until Dallas
had the ball on their own 32 yard line with a little more than 2 minutes left to play, and Brent Alexander came up with a real big interception. Of course, the Giants offense had already left
for the day, so they went three and out, but luckily the special teams unit was still playing. Jeff Feagles kicked a great punt that David Tyree was easily able to down at the Cowboys 4 yard
line. The defense did give up two first down plays, but with less than a minute and a half left, the Cowboys couldn't get too far. Next week is an away game against the Eagles, so the offense
will be stuck at the stadium playing until the end of the game, when all the busses leave together."
Game Notes:
"Neither team was able to score in the first quarter, even with the Giants defense giving
Dallas every break in the book on their first drive. It was 3rd and 5 and Fred Robbins drew an expensive 5 yard encroachment penalty. Then it was 3rd and 8, and Frank Walker was called for
pass Interference. When the Cowboys needed a 3rd and 11, Frank Walker stepped up again with a personal foul for 15 yards. The next time Drew Bledsoe needed a 3rd and 11, he made the foolish
mistake of not heaving it in the vicinity of any of the young Giants players. Still, on the punt, David Tyree was offside to give the Cowboys 5 yards and another kick. The defense buckled
down after this and shone with 4 sacks, 3 of them being 3rd and 8 drive killers. They caused 4 turnovers and even scored a touchdown.
The Giants on offense played pretty erratic today and needed the touchdown that the defense provided, or it might have been 10-10 at the end of the fourth quarter. You have to ask, where is
the Giants high-power offense? Eli Manning has a lot to work with. The offensive line gives him time. They have a solid running game with Tiki Barber. There are plenty of targets to throw
at - Plaxico Burres, Amani Toomer, Tim Carter, Jeremy Shockey and Tiki Barber, but maybe that's the problem. Manning throws at them rather than to them.
I know he's still new, but Manning really has to pick up the pace, otherwise the offense will keep wasting their opportunities, and even if the Giants win the division and get into the playoffs,
it won't go very far. In fact, if things don't improve, when we get down to the last game of the season against Oakland, you won't hear much talk about Eli Manning being compared to his brother
Peyton. It will all be about Eli Manning vs Kerry Collins."
