Dec 31 Special Report - The Giants held a fully-attended Big Three press conference Tuesday morning -- the trio being co-owner John K. Mara, head coach Tom Coughlin and general manager Jerry Reese -- and as might be expected, all the same questions were asked and all of them went unanswered. But politely.

Pat Hanlon is a ubiquitous presence around the Giants. But in the aftermath of the ugliest loss of the season, the team's PR director made himself scarce from his boss, team co-owner John Mara. The anger steaming around Mara was as thick as a force field. "I didn't want be in the same zip code," Hanlon recalled. Smart move.

There will be no major changes to the Giants' hierarchy after a second consecutive losing season, but that does not mean none were considered. "On the bus after the Jacksonville game," the Giants co-owner John Mara said, referring to a November loss that was the Giants' seventh in a row, "I wanted to fire everybody, from the people in the equipment room and on upstairs. "I was wondering if we were ever going to win again."

There are three reasons why John Mara and Steve Tisch elected to keep Coughlin even though the Giants have missed the playoffs the last three years. Even so, in the final question of his Tuesday news conference, when Mara was asked whether 2015 was win-or-else for a lot of people in the organization, he said ominously, "I don't think that's an unfair statement."

Jerry Reese doled out over $116 million in guaranteed money to free agents last offseason. He does not expect to come anywhere near that kind of mark again. One of the reasons why the impact of that spending spree never affected the record of the team was because most of the free-agent signings were hurt.

John Mara wants Eli Manning to retire a Giant, GM Jerry Reese much more non-commital. The Giants aren't willing to give Manning a free run at their vault. Even after capturing two Super Bowls, there are limitations.

Dec 30 Tom Coughlin, Jerry Reese informed they will return to Giants. There will be no major changes at the top of the Giants football operations. Head coach Tom Coughlin and general manager Jerry Reese will return in 2015 despite a 6-10 finish to yet another season on the outside of the playoffs.
The Giants may have lost 19 of their past 32 games and failed to make the playoffs in five of the past six seasons, but there will be no major changes in leadership next season. There is a franchise-wide consensus that the 2014 Giants were improving as the season ended, Coughlin and General Manager Jerry Reese were each informed by ownership Monday morning that the team wants them back.

On The Game: Game 16
Gamegirl - "I was really looking forward to the Giants winning today at home against the Eagles. Any fan who came out to watch was hoping for a big win, and all I can say is that I hope we have all hands on deck when we face the Eagles again next season"
Mikefan. - "Eli Manning was forced to carry the load and he threw the ball 53 times. Despite that the offensive line kept him sack free and there were some big plays, but Manning was a bit off with his receivers today. You'll remember the exciting plays by Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle, but nearly half the balls thrown to them fell incomplete. Larry Donnell pulled in only 2 of 6 and Preston Parker caught 2 of 4."

Giants (6-9) vs Eagles (9-6)
The Eagles were leading the division before they started on a three game losing streak, including a 27-24 loss to the Redskins last Saturday. The next day they watched as the Cowboys won their game, to put the division title out of reach.
In St. Louis the Rams turned their fan appreciation day into into a physical fistfight with the Giants, who had two players ejected from the game to their one. That fell in the Rams favor, but it was about the only thing they came out ahead on as the Giants handed them a 37-27 loss.
Giants - Rams Wrap-Up

Dec 28 Despite two straight losing seasons, the Giants would be right to keep the duo of Tom Coughlin and Jerry Reese. The perennial losers are the ones that make changes based on a couple of disappointing seasons, ignoring the bigger picture.
It is unlikely that Coughlin is coaching his last game for the Giants. The Giants have no clear replacement for Coughlin, and they never make a move without decisive forethought.

The sacks, strong run defense, his age (25) his hard work behind the scenes, Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul believes it's all working in his favor with one game remaining in the 2014 season. A big payday is in his future. Pierre-Paul may be right.

John Jerry rebuilds his reputation after the bullying scandal with the Dolphins. Jerry has been a mainstay on the offensive line. When the Giants meet the Philadelphia Eagles in the season finale Sunday at MetLife Stadium, Jerry will become one of three Giants linemen (along with Beatty and J.D. Walton) to start all 16 games.

Dec 27 This is a no-brainer Giants, don't mess it up. Soon-to-be free agent Jason Pierre-Paul must be re-signed. The importance of defense has increased with the rise of Odell Beckham Jr. and the Giants offense. Good defense will translate into more victories next season because the offense now is capable of putting more points on the board, with Beckham leading the way. "I think I'm worth a lot of money," Pierre-Paul said Friday.
Jason Pierre-Paul has 49 tackles, 10.5 sacks and 19 quarterback hits this season. If stats don't do it for your, he's 25 years old and has the frame and mobility that make scouts drool. Pierre-Paul is set to become a free agent this offseason. He thinks his value on the open market is high. Given the data that is available, it's hard to argue.

One of the earliest storylines in the Giants season was how Eli Manning would adapt to Ben McAdoo's new offensive system. And while moving the ball seemed exceptionally difficult at times during the Giants' grueling start to the year, the offense has shown undeniable growth over the past month.
The Giants struggled early on in McAdoo's system, taking time to developed a comfort level in the hybrid West Coast offense. As Manning has grasped the system and Beckham has emerged, the points have followed. McAdoo would like to see more consistency, in terms of execution, poise and positioning.

Perry Fewell may be coaching his final game for the Giants on Sunday. The defensive coordinator's job could be one of the casualties of a second straight losing season; his unit is ranked 28th in the NFL in yards allowed and 21st in points allowed. Fewell said he is not thinking about any of that. He's just thinking about the Eagles.

Dec 26 The Gotham City Cheerleaders have one mission: to become the official cheerleading team of the Giants. The team, started in 2011 by a former Washington Redskins cheerleader, Ana De Villegas, operates like any official NFL cheerleading squad: It practices a few times a week, performs at events, has its own uniforms and even produces a swimsuit calendar.

Corey Washington is frustrated by how his rookie season has played out. It's been only 31/2 months since he made a big splash in the preseason, but Washington already feels like one of those "Where Are They Now?" stories.

Victor Cruz knows a little something about post-touchdown celebrations in the end zone. His salsa dance is among the most renowned and recognizable in the NFL. So it is with some keen interest that the injured Cruz has watched from the sidelines as Giants teammate Odell Beckham Jr. deals with issues regarding his own post-touchdown celebrations.

Dec 25 The Giants and Rams went a little too far on Sunday in St. Louis. There were late hits, punches thrown, faces shoved, players ejected and lots of finger-pointing afterward.
The rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and five other Giants were fined a total of $72,400 for their actions in Sunday's melee-marred game at St. Louis.
What seemed to upset Cullen Jenkins most was that his fine ($16,537) was bigger than any of the Giants involved in Sunday's melee. Wide receiver Preston Parker threw two punches and was fined $15,000.

Dec 24 The Giants were one of four teams this year without a Pro Bowl selection. They were joined by the Vikings, Jaguars and Titans. That's not the type of company you want to be keeping these days.
No Giants player was voted into the 2015 Pro Bowl but figure rookie Odell Beckham Jr. will find his way into the game. Beckham in voting results revealed Tuesday night was selected as a first alternate for the Pro Bowl, to be played Jan. 25 inside the University of Phoenix Stadium.

After the killing of police officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, Steve Weatherford visits the NYPD to say thanks It was a small but significant gesture at a sad time for the NYPD, just three days after two officers - Ramos, 40, and Liu, 32 - were senselessly gunned down in the middle of the holiday season.

Dec 23 Chip Kelly says Eagles 'going to win' game against Giants in finale without playoff implications. "Yeah, let's get that straight, we're going to win the football game," Kelly said, speaking more of the team's intentions than making any sort of predictions on the outcome.
After each loss, each incomplete deep pass, and each game where the offense struggled, the question was asked by many. Did the Eagles, who are now eliminated from playoff contention, regret releasing DeSean Jackson? "No," head coach Chip Kelly said on Monday, "we feel confident in what we did."

Tom Coughlin won't get any argument with his Monday contention that game officials "were waiting" for Odell Beckham Jr. to test their flag-throwing ability in St. Louis. That was proven as soon as the young receiver spun the football on the turf in celebration of his first touchdown, a move he has used before without consequence but drew an immediate flag for taunting.
Coughlin came to Odell Beckham Jr.'s defense Monday, a day after his star rookie wide receiver received a taunting penalty and was involved in a sideline brawl with the St. Louis Rams.Coughlin doesn't think Beckham was taunting the Rams.
Spinning the ball is something Beckham has done frequently after catches, and officials had never before ruled it as being directed in a mocking way toward an opponent. But they did, and shortly afterward Rams defensive players twice hit Beckham late after catches. "Obviously, the officials had probably talked about that, and they were waiting," Coughlin said.

Odell Beckham Jr. and Andre Williams lead the Giants in receiving and rushing, and Weston Richburg and Devon Kennard play prominent roles each week. And after Sunday's win over the Rams, you can add two more to your rookie watch list. Defensive end Kerry Wynn had a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery and running back Orleans Darkwa ran four times for 21 yards, including a 12-yard TD. He also forced a fumble on a kickoff.

Dec 22 Giants win over the Rams 37-27  | Photos  | Video
On The Game: Game 15
Gamegirl - "The Rams defense has been hard to score on and they're very proud of that. Odell Beckham Jr. ruined their whole day right from the start in the first quarter. Rookie running back Orleans Darkwa joined in, and then Rueben Randle and Beckham once again, scoring a total of four touchdowns against a defense that hadn't allowed any in the last three games."
Mikefan. - "The Giants won and both teams certainly gave it their all. It was maybe too much 'all' as to how their head coaches might see things. The Rams certainly were out of line in the way they went after Odell Beckham Jr. Later head coach Jeff Fisher acknowledged that some of his players were displeased with Beckham and some of the things he said about breaking records against his defense."

Giants (5-9) vs Rams (6-8)
The Rams were coming off two very impressive wins, Oakland 52-0 and Washington 24-0, when they ran into the Arizona Cardinals last week. This time both teams had trouble scoring points and the offense was all field goals and a 12-6 loss for the Rams.
The Giants continued their winning streak with a 24-13 victory over the Washington Redskins. They trailed at halftime, but came back for a win.
Giants - Redskins Wrap-Up

Dec 21 Jason Pierre-Paul wants to be a "Giant for life" and Antrel Rolle wants to be right there with him. Both will be unrestricted free agents in March, and a month ago it seemed to be a lock that neither one had a shot of returning. Now, as the season winds down, that's not so certain at all.

Big Blue will arrive at the Edward Jones Dome riding a modest two-game winning streak. It's far from an impressive streak, built by raiding the NFL's basement (2-13 Titans and 3-11 Washington). But it could still play a key role in preserving Coughlin's job and saving a few other jobs on the coaching staff.

Josh Brown spent four years with the Rams kicking in a great deal of losing games. The Rams were 15-52 from 2008-11 with Brown as their place-kicker, and Sunday he plays inside Edward Jones Dome for the first time as a visiting player. Brown quietly has had an excellent season for the Giants, making 17 of his 18 field-goal attempts and expertly executing two successful onside kicks.

Running back Andre Williams, 22, is making the most of his opportunity, and like everything else he has done in his most interesting life, Williams has a plan for success and has stuck to that plan. A lot of young players could listen and learn from Andre Williams. With Rashad Jennings down with an ankle injury, Williams will get the start Sunday in St. Louis.

From club bouncer to Giants tight end. Months after they had worked him out, the Giants called. They needed a training camp body with several of their tight ends injured. Jerome Cunningham was ready. He impressed. He earned himself a spot on the team's practice squad, then was promoted to the active roster earlier this week (even though the Giants didn't need another tight end).

NFC East News
Loss to Redskins dents Eagles' hopes. Leaders in the NFC East a week ago, the Philadelphia Eagles are now just about finished in the playoff race. Penalties, missed field goals, two more turnovers by Mark Sanchez and an inability to keep track of their former teammate DeSean Jackson led to a 27-24 loss to the host Washington Redskins on Saturday, the Eagles' third straight defeat and one that gives Dallas two chances to clinch the division title.

Dec 20 Head coach Tom Coughlin put his stamp of approval on the coach that was hired to fix the "broken" offense this season. The Giants are ranked 14th in total offense after finishing 28th in 2013. "[McAdoo's] done a good job," Coughlin said as his team prepared for a Week 16 game in St. Louis. "He's a solid football coach. He knows exactly what he's doing."
Lost is the fact that Giants offense coordinator Ben McAdoo is himself a rookie. Prior to this year, the 37-year-old McAdoo had never been a coordinator at any level and had never been an in-game playcaller. He's been both for the Giants this year.

Perry Fewell is no fool. You can sense from the way that he answers questions and his subdued demeanor over the last several weeks that he is keenly aware of his tenuous position. Speculation is high that Fewell is all but guaranteed to be shown the door on Black Monday after the Giants play their final game of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles.

It's been an up-and-down season for Rashad Jennings because of injuries. He will miss his fifth game on Sunday. Jennings sprained his MCL in a win against the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 5 and was sidelined the next four games, all losses. He then sprained his right ankle in a one-point loss to the Jaguars on Nov. 30. Jennings has tried to give it a go but has been severely limited in his last two games, with just three carries combined.

Defensive tackles in the NFL are primarily considered run-stopping, space clogging behemoths - the grunts that do the dirty work while the more athletic defensive ends rack up the superficial stats and glory. The Giants' second-year defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins is rewriting that script this season.

Holding the clipboard as the backup quarterback behind Eli Manning is akin to being the emergency option for the Brett Favre all those years. You wait and wait and wait, but the opportunity to play never seems to arrive. Doug Peterson spent seven years behind Favre with the Packers. He never started a game there. Ryan Nassib is stuck in a similar spot.

Dec 19 Jason Pierre-Paul is suddenly among the top 20 players in sacks in the NFL with 9.5, and has a chance to crack double digits for only the second time in his career -- in a contract year, no less. Yet when asked Thursday if that numerical milestone would mean anything to him, Pierre-Paul's response was a tad surprising. "Nope!" he said. "I'm just playing football, and I think I'm doing a great job of it."
The numbers tell the sack story, but the game tape tells the story of his run defense, he said. Most opponents? JPP said they "run the opposite way. Don't come to my side," he said with a smile. "Or me and Hank's (defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins') side. I just take pride in playing the run and getting to the quarterback. You can't get to the quarterback unless you stop the run. I do a great job of it. I take pride in that."

Rookie linebacker Devon Kennard has made noticeable strides this season, and is now firmly in the conversation as a building block for the defense. There is one big question that the Giants will have to answer next season: What is Kennard's best position? Kennard played all three linebacker positions, as well as defensive end, at USC and his versatility is part of what made him an interesting late-round draft choice.

Dec 18 Tom Coughlin and Jeff Fisher have a lot in common. They've been coaching against each other for a long time -- Sunday will be their 19th head-to-head meeting -- and are ranked 13th and 14th, respectively, on the all-time list of regular-season wins by a coach. One win separates them. But the real number that shows the vast difference between the two is 28. That's how many times Fisher has called a fake punt in his career. Coughlin? He's never called one. Ever.

In the spring of 2010, safety Antrel Rolle signed a five-year, $37.1 million free-agent contract with the New York Giants. This is the NFL, where contracts are by definition not guaranteed and very few players see the end of theirs. Rolle is an exception.
For the last five years, he's been the Giants' versatile safety, a steady piece of the Big Blue defense, never missing a game. He's developed close relationships with several teammates, become a mentor to some, a brother to others.
It doesn't matter how young and effective Rolle feels. There are only a handful or so (Ryan Clark, Charles Woodson, Troy Polamalu, Mike Adams, Danieal Manning and Jim Leonhard) starting safeties older than Rolle.
The Giants have a preference for parting ways with players too early rather than too late. They did it with Justin Tuck this past offseason and over the years have done it with everyone from Steve Smith to Osi Umenyiora. They put a value on a player and don't let sentimentality cloud their judgment.

Dec 17 History says it may not end well for Tom Coughlin and the Giants. No matter how much success you've achieved, no matter how many times you've reached the mountaintop, there is an end to every NFL coaching career.
John Mara will be able to tune out fans if he doesn't fire Tom Coughlin. As much as Mara may be one of the last owners in sports who truly cares about what the fans think, he is smart enough to know that he can't run a franchise by mob rule.

With two games left in the 2014 season, the Giants have decided to shut down two of their injured players for good. Linebacker Jacquian Williams and offensive lineman James Brewer, both of whom have been slow to recover from concussions, were placed on injured reserve on Tuesday.
They were replaced on the roster by defensive tackle Dominique Hamilton, who was signed off the Giants' practice squad, and offensive lineman Adam Gettis, signed off the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad.

Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz to appear on Rachael Ray show. Victor Cruz and Odell Beckham Jr. have spent minimal time together on the field, just one full game in which they were both healthy enough to play. It's led to a lot of fun projecting what the Giants' offense will look like next year when they are both available targets for Eli Manning. But on Wednesday, you can see the Giants' sure-to-be dynamic duo spending time together in one of the least likely settings you could imagine.
The breakout seasons of Cruz and Beckham share some similarities, but also have their differences. Cruz was an undrafted free agent, while Beckham was the 12th overall selection of the 2014 NFL Draft. Beckham has excited his teammates, impressed his coaches and captivated and energized the fans, just as Cruz did three years ago.

Former Giants
Kevin Gilbride still questions overhaul of Giants offense. Kevin Gilbride still is not sure why the Giants blew up their entire offensive system and plunked down a brand-new playbook on Eli Manning's lap, when it should have been clear to everyone the issue wasn't the system, it was the players running it.

NFL News
NFL playoff scenarios: Here's who can clinch a spot in Week 16.

Dec 16 After performing solidly but not spectacularly for the bulk of the season, Jason Pierre-Paul is putting on a mad dash for the finish line, just in time to increase his worth as the Giants close out a bad year and he heads into free agency.
Jason Pierre-Paul's play against the run has been there all year. His pass rush hasn't. That has changed of late. The Giants say they have made adjustments with his technique to improve his power, leverage and speed.

Everyone on the outside may still be fretting over Tom Coughlin's future, but the Giants' two-time Super Bowl-winning head coach isn't thinking about that one bit. "I'm sure that will be dealt with at the right time," Coughlin said.
If Coughlin were to stay, there are indications he would strongly consider replacing embattled defensive coordinator Perry Fewell, whose unit has underperformed most of the season, particularly during an 0-6 stretch against playoff contenders.

On The Game: Game 14
Gamegirl - " It sure looked like a touchdown when Robert Griffin III flew into the endzone and tipped the pylon, but it was overturned on review and with no time left the half officially ended. Giants (4-9) vs Redkins (3-10)
The Redskins were shut out 24-0 last week by St. Louis. It was the second shut out in a row for the Rams, who demolished the Oakland Raiders 52-0 the week earlier. For the Redskins, it increased their losing streak to five games.
The Giants broke their long seven game losing streak with a 36-7 win over the Tennessee Titans. Once again the Giants were ahead at halftime, same as they were the past three games, but this time they were able to hold onto that lead for a win.
Giants - Titans Wrap-Up

Dec 14 A tough season for the Giants has been just as trying for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Nowhere near 100 percent because of a hamstring/back injury that has limited him since Week 5, Rodgers-Cromartie has watched as players have gone down by the bunches alongside him and the season went into the dumps.

When Ryan Nassib trotted out to Giants practice on Wednesday, the first question he had for the coaches was about the depth chart. He wanted to know who would be starting at quarterback because that would affect his role throughout the week. Not starting at quarterback for the Giants. For Washington.

Former Giants
Will Hill can play at the NFL level. Really well too. He did it as a starting safety for the Giants last season and is doing it again now for the Baltimore Ravens. The question with Hill is - and has always been - can he keep himself out of trouble?

Dec 13 Giants expect to rely on both Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams at running back vs. Redskins.
Jennings' sprained right ankle still isn't fully recovered and is likely to limit his workload in Sunday's game.
Giants rookie: Near death at 2, near stardom at 22.

Through the first three games of the season, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin and defensive coordinator Perry Fewell had seen enough strikeouts from Stevie Brown, who was getting beaten out of position, and they sat him. Brown lost his starting job to Quintin Demps for the next nine games before returning to the starting lineup last week.
Stevie Brown looks to make impact an in secondary. When the teams met on Sept. 25 in FedEx Field, the fifth-year safety had just been demoted from the starting lineup. His participation in the Giants' 45-14 victory was limited to special teams. On Sunday, the teams will meet in a rematch in MetLife Stadium and Brown is once again entrenched in the secondary.

If it wasn't bad enough for Damontre Moore that his shove of Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger cost the Giants a touchdown, now it also cost him $10,000. Moore was fined this week by the NFL for his block of Mettenberger.

Dec 12 Rookie Odell Beckham, who made his Giants debut the week after the win over Washington, is drawing attention as a top threat, and Larry Donnell is attempting to rediscover the form he has yet to repeat since the previous win.
Odell Beckham Jr. threw his first NFL pass last week against the Titans, a deep incompletion intended for Rueben Randle. But that play has been in the works for a long time, Ben McAdoo said. And there will likely be more to come.

One is an emerging superstar. The other, it's fair to say, has been disappointing this season. Odell Beckham Jr. has only played in nine NFL games, and his jersey is already in the Hall of Fame. Rueben Randle is now in his third NFL season, but the former second-round pick has failed to make the leap to the next level in his first year as a starter, replacing the departed Hakeem Nicks.
The former LSU star said don't blame him for his lack of production. "I'm continuing to get open on film," Rueben Randle said after practice on Thursday. "I only control what I can control. The ball comes my way, I got to make a play. If not, I got to continue to work like it's coming my way and be prepared when it does."

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the jobs of Tom Coughlin and most of his coaching staff are in jeopardy with three games left in the season. A bigger mystery is what Giants owners John Mara and Steve Tisch plan to do with general manager Jerry Reese, who has presided over the team's football operations since 2007 and has been with the organization since 1994.

Dec 11 The 2010 first-round pick is eligible for free agency after this season and so far has not had any talks with the team about a long-term contract. He insists he's not thinking about it.
One month ago, Jason Pierre-Paul had no idea what the future held for him. But on Wednesday, the Giants' defensive end said he wants the Giants to be a part of it.
Pierre-Paul's remarks were a slight pivot from what he told reporters nearly a month ago when asked a similar question. At that time, Pierre-Paul was decidedly less enthusiastic about the prospect of staying with the home team, saying "If I'm here, I'm here, if I'm not, I'm not."

Several Giants players came up to Devon Kennard during practice Wednesday and congratulated him. Kennard said he didn't know why, so he just said: "Thanks." Later he learned that he had been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week, the first Giants rookie to accomplish the feat.
The fifth-round draft choice from USC had two sacks, a forced fumble and six tackles in the Giants' victory over the Titans. It was Kennard's second straight two-sack game. Three of Kennard's six tackles occurred behind the line of scrimmage.

Eli Manning will make his 165th consecutive regular-season start Sunday, barring something totally unforeseen happening the rest of the week. But, for a brief moment, Giants fans and followers were left with the thought of seeing Ryan Nassib at quarterback against the Washington Redskins.
Eli Manning was on the Giants' injury report for the first time in three years. And he was so worried that he didn't even know what his injury was. On Wednesday, the Giants' most indispensable player was a surprise addition to the injury report, but not a single person in all of East Rutherford was even the least bit concerned.

Dec 10 Antrel Rolle defended his unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against the Tennessee Titans. After cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie picked off Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger and high-stepped his way to a touchdown, Rolle mimicked snapping pictures of a posing Rodgers-Cromartie in the end zone, drawing a flag. The touchdown would be negated by a separate unnecessary roughness penalty on defensive end Damontre Moore.
Tom Coughlin wasn't a fan of the safety's celebration of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie's pick-six, and he expressed his displeasure. Rolle, one of the voices of a rudderless squad that's spent all season playing with a lack of -- wait for it -- discipline, barely cared.
Rolle explained his friendship with Rodgers-Cromartie, and the injury struggles Rodgers-Cromartie has endured this season - his first with the Giants - was the real reason for the excessive show of emotion. "We know that's something that's not acceptable, but it goes bigger than us celebrating for an interception for a touchdown,'' Rolle said.
It's not the first time this season that Rolle, a veteran and a team captain, has been involved in such an incident. After the game, he bristled a bit when asked about it. "We're not talking about anything negative today," Rolle said after the Giants' first victory in two months. "It is what it is. We got caught up in the moment. A teammate made a play and we celebrate."

Touchdowns translate for German fans of Markus Kuhn. It's been difficult for Germans to relate to their very few countrymen who are playing in the NFL. Tackles in American football are good. Tackles in soccer get you kicked out of the game. But scoring points, well, that doesn't get lost in translation.

For Giants tight end Larry Donnell, plan had no backup. Donnell finally agreed to seek part-time employment and applied to be a driver for Pizza Hut. He never delivered a single pie. At professional scout Jeremiah Davis urging, the Giants signed Donnell on March 13, 2012. He spent his first season on the practice squad.

Dec 9 Tom Coughlin praises his young players: 'They're starting to get it'. Indeed, the Giants 36-7 win over the Titans was filled with highlights from their young players. Williams broke the 100-yard mark for the first time this season and added a 50-yard touchdown run and a season-high 5.5 yards per carry.
There was Odell Beckham adding to his legend with 130 more receiving yards, struggling running back Andre Williams busting loose for 131 rushing yards, and linebacker Devon Kennard terrorizing the Titans for two sacks.
Rashad Jennings worked out prior to the game, and his sprained right ankle held up well enough for the Giants to let him play. But they knew he couldn't play much, so they listed rookie Andre Williams as the starting running back and Jennings offered a pep talk. "I told him before the game, 'This is your breakout game,'" Jennings said.

Tom Coughlin to speak privately with some players and coach after sideline behavior. After Rodgers-Cromartie high-stepped down the left sideline and danced in the end zone, he posed for pretend pictures with Antrel Rolle as the cameraman. It earned them a trip to the principal's office.
When a team is mired in a losing streak, the sideline dustup like the one featuring punter Steve Weatherford and special teams coach Tom Quinn is used as evidence of frayed nerves and perhaps a head coach losing control of this team. When a team wins the incident is seen for what it is: Two guys blowing off some steam, at each other.

Eli Manning was kept relatively clean on Sunday against the Titans. He wasn't sacked for just the second time this season and only took three quarterback hits, according to Pro Football Focus. It may have been the best he's been protected by his offensive line this season. Of all games, it was kind of curious for him to be in the trainer's room longest after Sunday's. a

Giants (3-9) vs Titans (2-10)
The Titans were down 24-0 going into the second half of their game in Houston. They scored the next two touchdowns, but couldn't stop the Texans after that and lost 45-21.
The Giants let another one get away last week in Jacksonville. They held an almost insurmountable 21-3 lead going into the third quarter, but ended up with a 25-24 loss.
Giants - Jaguars Wrap-Up

Dec 6 Maybe it's karma, or just irony, or simply life in the NFL, but if there's one thing Tom Coughlin has learned in his 11 seasons running the Giants, it's that even he's not powerful enough to control his players' health. NFL players get hurt, and that seems to happen frequently to the Giants, who are once again among the most injured teams in the league.
The Giants have lost nine games. They've also lost a host of players to injured reserve. But no, those two things are not tied together. This is what Tom Coughlin has always believed, and on Wednesday, the embattled coach and his Giants did their best to stick to that philosophy. Never mind that, on Tuesday alone, Coughlin had sent five players to season-ending injured reserve, or that the Giants have had a whopping 20 players on IR this season.

The Giants could be without several key players Sunday at Tennessee, with Rashad Jennings likely among them. Big Blue's starting running back missed a second straight day of practice Thursday with a sprained ankle suffered in last week's upset loss to Jacksonville, and is looking more and more likely to have to sit out Sunday's game against the Titans.
He wants to play, even though he knows that the ankle he sprained last Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars still hasn't completely healed. He wants to play, even though the Giants are 3-9 and can no longer even pretend that they have a shot at the playoffs.

Tight end Larry Donnell knows he has to stop fumbling the ball. But in a case like last Sunday's, when he fumbled as he fell to the ground and tried to break his fall with his free hand, he also knows it's not that simple. Donnell "I know I'm not supposed to land on my neck," Donnell said earlier this week.

If Jason Pierre-Paul has any chance of scoring a big-money contract that once seemed like a lock, he's going to have to add to his sack total. He knows it, too. Asked Friday if it felt good to finally get back in the sack column last Sunday, Pierre-Paul rocked his head back and laughed out loud. Then the Giants' fifth-year defensive end rolled his eyes in a deliberately playful way as if to say, "Well, duuuuhhhhh!"

To keep blackout rule, NFL needs a Hail Mary.

Dec 5 With injuries befalling defensive ends Robert Ayers and Mathias Kiwanuka, the time has come for Damontre Moore to prove that he was worth the third round pick the Giants spent on him in 2013.
Any analysis of Moore and his playing time must factor in that he's only 22 years old and that the main reason he hasn't seen the field more on defense is that the coaches don't see enough consistency in practice to trust him in games.
The only benefit left in the Giants four remaining games is to figure out which of their young players are worth keeping. At the top of the list is Moore who was thought to be the latest addition to a pass-rushing lineage at defensive end.

Running back Rashad Jennings missed a second straight day of practice Thursday with a sprained ankle, and the team appears to be preparing to play Sunday's game in Tennessee without him.
Unless Jennings makes a miraculous recovery, gets on the practice field Friday and proves to coach Tom Coughlin and the Giants that he's healthy enough to run and cut without restrictions, there will be a new face in the backfield.

The latest Larry Donnell fumble is playing over and over in his head on an endless loop. Donnell and the Giants are trying to fix their problem. But that's not even their biggest concern right now. They're worried about his health first.

Odell Beckham Jr. is proving he's more than just "The Catch." The Giants' first-round draft choice has been named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for November as he led the league with 118.6 receiving yards per game and became the first rookie with at least 90 receiving yards in five games in a single month.

Justin Pugh watched helplessly as Geoff Schwartz was helped onto the cart and taken off the field Sunday afternoon. The Giants will start Will Beatty at LT, Weston Richburg at LG, J.D. Walton at C, Jerry at RG and Pugh at RT. That unit started the season's first 10 games, including the Giants' three wins.

Former Giants
David Diehl was on the line, calling in for a previously scheduled interview. But wait: Why 13 minutes early? "I'm still on Coughlin Time," he explained. Diehl has ended up with three Giants games in four weeks, including Sunday in Nashville.

Dec 4 Special Report - It is interesting to remember that on Jan. 6, 2004, when the Giants hired Tom Coughlin as their head coach, he delivered a rousing, jump-to-your-feet acceptance speech. Among the most stirring statements concerned injuries. He promised to eliminate them, calling injuries "a cancer in the locker room," and since the "pre-Tom" Giants were uncommonly beset by them, it was a sore point with the fans and ownership.
Well, just the other day the Giants placed five more players in Injured Reserve, bringing to 20 the total of disabled athletes for this 2014 season. It is the most in team history and, as Coughlin said the other day, the most he has ever heard of during his career(s) with Jacksonville and the Giants.

When Tom Coughlin was hired by the Giants in 2004, he stated clearly that he thought injuries were "a cancer" and "a mental thing." That was because the previous season under Jim Fassel the Giants had 12 players on injured reserve. This year's Giants almost double that.
This is a more compassionate Coughlin than the one who immediately derided injuries under predecessor Jim Fassel "a cancer" and a mental thing that were part of a losing culture. "I feel badly for any player who has his heart and soul in what he's doing, and is denied that because of an injury. I feel badly for them," Coughlin says, "and, then again, we speak to the opportunity that comes to the next in line."
The Giants have lost nine games. They've also lost a host of players to injured reserve. But no, those two things are not tied together. This is what Tom Coughlin has always believed, and on Wednesday, the embattled coach and his Giants did their best to stick to that philosophy.

The Giants did overhaul their conditioning program this year, incorporating GPS monitoring and scheduled rest days throughout training camp and monitoring things differently during the season than they have in years past. But as Coughlin points out, the issues this year have generally not been muscle pulls or lingering strains.
In a week where the Giants lost five more players to injured reserve, two of the team's walking wounded, running back Rashad Jennings and right tackle Justin Pugh, were adamant that they would suit up Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.
There has been shifting, inserting, benching and rotating the past few weeks on the Giants offensive line. After injuries have taken their toll - Geoff Schwartz and Adam Snyder are now on injured reserve - it's back to the same group that started the first 10 games of the season.

Dec 3 One day after Tom Coughlin put the blame for the Giants' performance this season squarely on his shoulders, the team's co-owner Steve Tisch absolved him of that blame on Tuesday.
For two straight years now the Giants thought they were sitting on a Super Bowl contender when the reality is they had badly overvalued the players on their own roster. What they assembled was a mediocre and flawed team, and when the injuries mounted it was exposed as dangerously thin.
It might not be a coincidence that the Giants' seven-game losing streak began the night that wide receiver Victor Cruz tore his right patellar tendon against the Philadelphia Eagles. But Cruz said that nobody in the locker room is assigning blame, and that the goal for the team is to finish the last four games on a high note.

The Giants placed an astounding five more players on injured reserve, including guard Geoff Schwartz and longtime defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka, who's out for the year with a knee injury and could now be finished as a Giant after nine seasons.

Antrel Rolle was as fired up as he's been all year on Tuesday, using his weekly paid radio spot on WFAN to defend Tom Coughlin and Perry Fewell, place blame for the entire season on players, and even blasting two reporters for taking his postgame comments Sunday out of context.
The Post ran a story with the headline "Rolle condemns the play-calling in Giants' mess of a defense." It was based primarily off this quote after Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles had success running the zone-read on the game-winning drive. "We had an answer for it all game," Rolle said. "We have calls for that that's actually great for that, but we weren't in those calls at the end of the game.
Antrel Rolle is the Giants' most durable and dependable defensive player, but his contract is up after this season and there are no guarantees he will be re-signed if the expected personnel upheaval takes place. "I don't control what's going to happen," Rolle said Tuesday on his weekly WFAN spot. "I just know I still have a lot in the tank."

Dec 2 Tom Coughlin snapped when asked if he'd take another year on his contract right now. "Don't start with that stuff," he said. "I'm not interested in discussing my circumstance." His circumstance is going to dominate the discussion for the next four weeks, however.
Although this will be only the Giants' third losing season since Coughlin took over in 2004, he knows questions may arise about his ability, at age 68, to connect with young players. As he nears the end of his 19th year as an NFL head coach, he need not be reminded about the league's results-driven nature.
The oldest coach in the NFL also admitted to his players that he's never endured a challenge quite like this one, with the Giants having their worst record since 1995, a season in which even Coughlin admitted "bizarre" things have happened. He admitted that he can "understand" the criticism being lobbed his way "completely," but right now, it's not his main concern.

Tom Coughlin chalked up the critical comments some players have made in recent weeks in regard to play-calling as an expression of frustration and not, as he called it, "being disrespectful." Most recently, Antrel Rolle questioned the decisions on the Jaguars' final drive of the game, particularly when it came to allowing quarterback Blake Bortles to run for 31 yards. And wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. said he thought the offense needed to keep "the pedal on the metal" and stay aggressive in the second half after taking a 21-0 lead.
In their 12 games this season, the Giants have outscored their opponents, 110-66 points, in the second quarter. But when they come out to play the second half, the Giants seem to be a different team. They have been outscored in the third quarter, 109-34. So what exactly is happening? "I don't have a reason, I don't have an explanation," quarterback Eli Manning said.

Giants (3-8) vs Jaguars (1-10)
The Jaguars are having a tough season and last week was no exception. They traveled to Indianapolis and were able to score just one field goal. The Colts won that game 23-3.
The Giants came close to winning last week when they held a four point lead over the Cowboys with just three minutes remaining. Tony Romo needed only two minutes to score a touchdown to put his team up. The Giants were unable to come back on their turn and lost the game 31-28.
Giants - Cowboys Wrap-Up

Nov 30 Jaguars still hold Tom Coughlin in high regard. Tom Coughlin is back where it all began. Not just for him, but for a whole NFL franchise. Sept. 3, 1995. The Jaguars lost to the Houston Oilers, 10-3. "We had a chance to win, too," he said of a loss that still rankles him 19 years and two Super Bowl victories later. Sunday most likely will be Coughlin's final game in Jacksonville.

There are too many head-scratching mistakes. And it's not only during this six-game losing streak. The Giants defense has been doing this since Week 1, when there were mind-boggling breakdowns on the back end in Detroit, no pressure on the quarterback and curious personnel decisions. Thirteen weeks into the season, nothing has changed.
It's several days after the Giants' season all but ended with a heartbreaking loss to the Dallas Cowboys, several days after Ayers was trapped on the sidelines on the pivotal defensive snap of that game. With 1:11 to play, Ayers could only watch as an ineffective Mathias Kiwanuka and an invisible Jason Pierre-Paul barely breathed on Tony Romo, who shuffled, stepped up and hit Dez Bryant for the game-winning 13-yard TD that pulled the plug on a Giants season on life support.
Defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka did not travel with the team to Jacksonville and will not play against the Jaguars on Sunday. Kiwanuka has been dealing with a knee injury for the past month or so, occasionally sitting out practice to give himself some rest. He was listed as questionable, and clearly the team felt he'd be better served resting up this week.

Nov 29 Defensive end Damontre Moore should've been on field for final drive; so why wasn't he? The second-year defensive end played six snaps on Sunday night. He had a sack and a quarterback pressure in his limited playing time. "Really, [Moore] should have been in on the coverage package that we had [on the final drive]," Fewell said. "He should have been in." The obvious follow-up question to that is: Well, why wasn't he?
Moore, as well as Robert Ayers - the Giants' top pass rushers - were on the sideline when Dallas went more than 80 yards and scored with less than two minutes remaining. "We just didn't go a good job - because things were going fast so we just didn't do a good job of managing that," Fewell said of getting Moore onto the field. "That's poor on our part."
Fewell said the mistakes and miscommunications drive him crazy ("That's why I don't have hair," the bald coordinator joked), and added that losing middle linebacker Jon Beason was a major blow to the defense. Still, he declared the Giants have enough talent to be successful.

Nov 28 Deadpan Tom Coughlin swore Wednesday he didn't know Sunday's game in Jacksonville will be his 300th as an NFL head coach. "Really? Thank you very much. I didn't realize that," the New York Giants' coach said. "For a young guy, that's hard to believe, 300 games. I must have started when I was 15."

When the Lions beat the Bears Thursday, it officially eliminated the Giants from contention for a playoff spot. It had been a few weeks since they had any realistic hope of making the postseason, and Sunday's loss to the Cowboys that extended their skid to six games eliminated them from NFC East contention."

In his 11 years, Eli Manning has seen them all come and go, the new flavor of the week creating a stir and then melting away. But nothing quite like this. Odell Beckham Jr. already had turned heads with his immediate contributions in his first six NFL games.

On Sunday, Denard Robinson and Jason Pierre-Paul will catch up when the Giants face the Jaguars in Jacksonville, Fla. "Oh, yeah, I still talk to him," Robinson said. "We are going to have a lot of people come to the game this weekend. Some of his family is friends with me and we have mutual friends. We used to hang out in high school."

To blitz or not to blitz isn't even the question. All season, embattled defensive coordinator Perry Fewell has been under heat for his play-calling, as if he's the problem with the "D." But without even naming names, Coughlin clearly pointed blame at the stunning decline of Jason Pierre-Paul, the rapid aging of Mathias Kiwanuka and the general inability of all the other defenders to make things happen even when the team does blitz.'

Nov 27 He's already made the play of the year. Could Odell Beckham be the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year, too? With five games left in this lost season for the Giants, the receiver who owned social media on Sunday suddenly finds himself in that hunt, and really, it's the only reason worth paying attention to this team in December.
Few NFL players know New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. as well as Miami Dolphins rookie receiver Jarvis Landry. The longtime friends were college teammates and roommates at LSU and, according to Landry, the pair talk daily.

To blitz or not to blitz isn't even the question. All season, embattled defensive coordinator Perry Fewell has been under heat for his play-calling, as if he's the problem with the "D." But without even naming names, Coughlin clearly pointed blame at the stunning decline of Jason Pierre-Paul, the rapid aging of Mathias Kiwanuka and the general inability of all the other defenders to make things happen even when the team does blitz.
Tom Coughlin sounded like a man running out of answers for the team's lackluster pass rush. One potential solution he noted was to give second-year defensive end Damontre Moore additional playing time. Moore brings an element of speed coming off the edge that the Giants have sorely lacked, and played well against the Cowboys. Coughlin said. "He should have been playing a little bit more."

Robert Ayers leads the team with five sacks and is also tops in quarterback hits (12) and quarterback hurries (24), according to Pro Football Focus. This despite the fact that he has played only 350 snaps. In comparison, Pierre-Paul has played 651 and Kiwanuka 558. Ayers was not on the field for Dallas' game-winning drive.
In that series, Coughlin mostly stuck with with defensive ends Jason Pierre-Paul and Mathias Kiwanuka and defensive tackles Johnathan Hankins, Markus Kuhn, and Mike Patterson, and the latter two are not known at all for their pass rushing ability. Coughlin said he had "sound" reasons for not playing Ayers more than one snap on that drive, but declined to go into detail. In Ayers eyes, however, he wasn't necessarily "benched" because he is a part-time player to begin with.

Former Giants
Will Hill was suspended for the first six games of the season. It took him only two more weeks to become the Ravens' starter. Now the Ravens' faith in him is paying off. On Monday night, Hill added the playmaking dynamic Baltimore's secondary has sorely lacked, and his 44-yard pick-six turned the tide in the Ravens' 34-27 victory against the Saints.

Nov 26 Giants safety Antrel Rolle has a message for anyone who might think the team's lack of pressure on Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was on defensive coordinator Perry Fewell: It's the fault of the Giants' blitzes.
Antrel Rolle said the Giants are playing the next month for "a bigger goal" than the playoffs, which is something he conceded the team will not accomplish.

Mathematics and common logic have thrown in the towel on this Giants season. Even if there is one crazy far-fetched scenario where they could make the playoffs (you know, like every other team forfeiting the season), it's over. The Giants must start looking towards 2015.

Nov 25 As coach Tom Coughlin tried to explain why there was a lack of pressure and aggressive defensive play-calling on the final drive, it sure sounded like this was an old story with defensive coordinator Perry Fewell making the calls. It was the same thing that we've seen on multiple occasions throughout this lost Giants season.
Why in the world wasn't there any signal for reinforcements when it was clear the Giants' four-man pass rush was getting stonewalled? And why the heck was Robert Ayers -- the team leader in sacks -- glued to the sideline as Tony Romo spent so much time standing in his cushy pocket, he needed to move his legs if only to prevent them from falling asleep?
A day after the Giants' bitter 31-28 defeat at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys, Giants coach Tom Coughlin admitted that he'd do things differently, if given another chance. The Giants stayed away from the blitz on that final drive, choosing instead to rush just four linemen and try to beat Romo that way. It backfired.
Giants can't bring back Perry Fewell next year. although Coughlin didn't mention anyone by name the day after the Giants' latest defeat -- a 31-28 loss to Dallas in which they gave up the winning touchdown with 1:01 left, capping an 80-yard drive that took only 1:59 -- it sure sounded as though he was second-guessing Perry Fewell.

How everyone thought I missed the photo of Odell Beckham Jr.'s amazing touchdown catch ... but I didn't. You've probably seen the photos of Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham making his ridiculous, one-handed touchdown catch against the Dallas Cowboys. I'm the photographer in the background marveling at the catch ... and apparently not shooting.
Beckham, whose leaping, one-handed touchdown grab against the Cowboys was still the talk of the town one day later, made the case that David Tyree's Super Bowl helmet haul was the most impressive he watched as a spectator. "That's the craziest catch I've ever seen still to this day," Beckham said.

Nothing about the day after Giants rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. made the greatest catch most of us had ever seen was routine. His phone was still blowing up. Text after text, call after call kept rolling in from all sorts of people, from all over the map. Everyone was still talking about his catch. Even at the team's practice facility, Beckham's teammates were telling him it was the greatest grab they'd ever seen.
How did Beckham make that catch? By the next morning, in the laboratories and offices of physicists, mechanical engineers and sport scientists, the answer was being deduced through scrutiny of gyroscopic effects, vectors, linear and angular momentum, a coefficient of friction, mass, velocity and the material composition of the specialized glove on Beckham's hand.

Giants (3-7) vs Cowboys (7-3)
Last week the Cowboys were on a bye coming off a 31-17 win against the Jaguars in London. Tony Romo, sidelined for one week because of a back injury, played in that game and threw three touchdowns.
With the Eagles losing, the Giants could have moved up a notch last week in front of all their home fans. They even scored a rare opening drive touchdown, and could have beaten the 49ers with just a few more good plays, but instead lost 16-10.
Giants - San Francisco Wrap-Up

Nov 23 Larry Donnell remembers the game. He remembers the fumble. He remembers the tears he cried after both of them. The Giants' young tight end is having a breakout season, on pace to break the franchise record for touchdown receptions at his position and getting closer to the team mark for most catches in a season by a tight end. It's been a year of incredible highs for him. And the low. In Dallas, just over a month ago.
Donnell is the biggest surprise on the Giants' roster, and one of the biggest enigmas in the NFL. He's on an up-and-down roller coaster between acrobatic catches and maddening drops, between good Larry and bad Larry. Which one will show up Sunday night against archrival Dallas? In his last game, Donnell caught a touchdown pass, but couldn't hold on to a potential game-winning score late in the fourth quarter, as the Giants failed to score four straight times from near the goal line.

Sunday night's meeting with the Cowboys at MetLife Stadium is the final prime-time appearance for the Giants - you think any network wants to flex the kickoff time for this team in the coming weeks? - and it is, mercifully, the last time a national audience has to be subjected to what this franchise has become.
Does it unnerve John Mara that the Giants seem to play their worst at the most crucial times? In the fourth quarters of their losses, the Giants have been outscored by 70-28. And what if a bad streak by the Giants becomes a free fall? What if they struggle to win five games? Outside the Giants' headquarters and practice complex, the voices calling for Tom Coughlin's firing are mounting. In Las Vegas, the betting odds give him less than a 50 percent chance of keeping his job.

Nov 22 Have you written off the Giants' chances of making the playoffs this season? Jason Pierre-Paul hasn't. "I think we can run the table," the fifth-year defensive end said after practice Friday. "I promise you, I honestly do. I think we can run the table. We did it before -- with a whole group of guys that was different. We got a different group of guys now, and I'm pretty sure we can do it, you know what I mean?
It may have been the final wild statement Pierre-Paul will ever make before a Cowboys game. And boy, was it wild. Just when you thought the Giants were done with wild playoff promises for 2014, here's one more from JPP. The underproductive defensive end said he believes 3-7 Big Blue can win its last six games and find a way to sneak into the playoffs.

Say what you want about the Giants' new offensive boss. McAdoo's a confident fella. "I'm not going to stand up here and apologize for the play calling," McAdoo said. "I think that I will take those matchups any day of the week. I'd take them last week and I'll take them again this week," he added. I like it. McAdoo's comments were bold, firm, filled with conviction.

The Raiders won on Thursday night, holding off the Chiefs for the first Oakland victory of the season. It was also the Raiders' first win since last November, ending what had become the NFL's longest active streak without having tasted success. So who holds that dishonor now? Do you really have to ask? Actually, the Giants are one of two teams currently on a five-game losing streak, the longest active one in the NFL right now. The Panthers have lost five in a row, too.

Former Giants
Justin Tuck's quick thinking saved Raiders' first win. The Raiders - more than a year since their last previous victory - nearly blew their first win of the season Thursday night over the Kansas City Chiefs, and had it not been for the alertness of former Giants defensive end Justin Tuck, the misery in Oakland might have continued.
Justin Tuck reminded the world where he came from Thursday night. That he was raised and schooled in a certain professional culture that remains central to who he is, even as everyone else around him opts for floppy clown shoes instead of cleats. Credit Tuck, yes: He's the one who kept his head, who made the T with his hands, who rescued the Raiders.
Kevin Gilbride: Tom Coughlin will resurrect Giants again. He's always been good at being disciplined and staying focused, and keeping guys plugged in to the things that matter. We started 0-6 last season and turned that whole thing around at the end. That was a testament to Tom and his staff, and I expect it to happen again.

NFL News
Bills shrug, bundle up and make their way to Detroit. The NFL. considered ease of travel for Bills fans and tried to preserve some of the team's geographic advantage before moving the game against the Jets to Detroit on Monday night.

Nov 21 Ben McAdoo has no regrets when it comes to the three fade passes the Giants threw Sunday after reaching the 49ers' 4-yard line and having first-and-goal.
Play-calling would never have been questioned had the Giants scored a touchdown. Monday, Coughlin said, "After looking at the tape, I think two of those balls should have been caught." He was referring to the passes thrown to Randle and Donnell.

No one is pulling the plug on the union of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and the Giants. But what not long ago was considered a free-agent coup is now almost an afterthought amid a season gone awry.
The big-ticket free-agent acquisition hasn't played a full game since late September and has been rotating in and out of the secondary with what the Giants call a back and hamstring issue.

At a tense, tenuous time when our flagship franchise is nearing a crossroads, the franchise quarterback stands taller than ever as the most indispensable Giant. Whether Tom Coughlin is their coach or not in 2015 and beyond, the Giants need Eli Manning to be their franchise quarterback in 2015 and beyond.
Manning has one year left on his contract after this year and is scheduled to make $17 million in salary in 2015. The Giants could sign him to an extension this coming offseason. Manning said he's not worried about his contract situation and that he's still enjoying football, in spite of the tough stretch the Giants are enduring right now.

NFL News
The Jets practiced Thursday without knowing when and where they would play Buffalo. Finally, hours after they left the field, the NFL announced that Sunday's Jets-Bills game has been moved to Detroit and will be played Monday night at 7.

Nov 20 Strangely, the Giants have yet to play at home against an NFC East opponent, making this the first game this season at MetLife Stadium for the Cowboys, Redskins or Eagles - the teams that always bring out the most fevered passion, in victory and defeat.
Through the first 11 weeks of the season, teams coming off the bye have posted a 10-16 record. In case you forgot, the Cowboys are coming off their bye and play the Giants on Sunday. What the bye week offers up in rest it might take away in game readiness.

It wasn't a exactly a stinging rebuke, but given Eli Manning's history of keeping his interviews as vanilla as possible, it was still a shot across the bow. When asked if he heard that his old teammate Tiki Barber had said on the radio that the Giants are "not listening to Tom Coughlin any more." Manning gave the perfect answer.
Two days after Barber went on the radio and said the Giants should fire Tom Coughlin, Eli Manning told everyone exactly what Big Blue thinks of its big-mouthed former running back. And they don't think much of him. "That's very nice of him," Manning said. "It's good to hear from Ol' Tiki."

Nov 19 Tom Coughlin laments missed 76-yard touchdown to Odell Beckham Jr. in Giants loss. Rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham could've had an even bigger impact on Sunday's game.
Coughlin deserves one more shot at turning the Giants back into winners, but some changes - including bringing back Steve Spagnuolo have to occur. Coughlin is very loyal to his assistants, but he should replace defensive coordinator Perry Fewell.
One of the bigger decisions facing the Giants this offseason is the one they must make about Eli Manning. He has one year left on his contract with a nonguaranteed base salary of $17 million and a salary-cap charge of $19.75 million for 2015.

Despite the offensive meltdown that led to the latest loss, Antrel Rolle sounded moderately upbeat Tuesday when asked if he believes the Giants can run the table and win their remaining six games. "Absolutely, I think it's a possibility."
The record says one thing. But the Giants continue to firmly believe another thing, which just may be as damning as anything about this lost season. Meet your New York Giants, that's less mediocre and more painfully underachieving.

The constant for the Giants as they confront their third consecutive season without a playoff berth has been their inability to generate an effective running game behind a poor, if not woeful, offensive line.
The Giants are 3-7, their worst record through 10 games since 1998. The season is pretty much over. And once again, it can be tied back to those five bodies up front. The Giants thought they had fixed the problem.

Terry Bradshaw: Minnesota Vikings' Adrian Peterson should sue Roger Goodell.

Nov 18 Tom Coughlin, Eli Manning say Giants should have scored, beaten 49ers. Some fans wanted to see the Giants try to run the ball, and/or show more creativity in terms of the passing plays. But head coach Tom Coughlin and quarterback Eli Manning defended the play-calling sequence Monday.
The now infamous three fades and an interception is playing on loop in Giants coach Tom Coughlin's head. Over and over and over it never stops. It's football torture. "Sure, why wouldn't it?" Coughlin said. "The ball is on the 4-yard line. You have a chance to win the game. Somebody make a play. "Get the ball in the end zone and you win. Yeah, I'll remember that one."
When they are officially eliminated in the coming days or weeks, they will become just the second team ever to go from the Super Bowl to three straight years without making the playoffs. From the penthouse to the you-know-what with three flushes.

Giants rewind: How Jerry Reese is failing Eli Manning. Here's another prize delivered to the Giants this holiday season from general manager Jerry Reese: Charles Brown, now playing right tackle. Or, more accurately, not playing right tackle. This is the depth Reese provided for his $100 million franchise quarterback. He's 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, only 27 years old, originally a second-round pick out of USC. Problem is, he can't play. "

Offensive lineman Charles Brown was not pleased with his performance on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. The backup offensive lineman entered the game in the second quarter, replacing right tackle Justin Pugh, who left the game with a strained quadriceps muscle and didn't return. The Niners game was Brown's first extensive action all season.

Given the Giants' rushing woes, perhaps we shouldn't have been shocked that running back Rashad Jennings stayed on the field for nearly every snap against the San Francisco 49ers. But with Jennings clearly still rusty after a six-week layoff, it was certainly surprising that his backup, rookie Andre Williams barely saw any action.

We've speculated what the Giants should do with Coughlin, if they should fire him or nudge him into retirement or demand that he make massive changes, but the premise should be reversed. The Giants shouldn't get rid of Coughlin. He should get rid of them. Honestly, why would he want to coach them beyond 2014? This is a team that needs a major overhaul, one that already lacked depth and talent thanks to GM Jerry Reese's decisions before it was devastated with injuries.

Former Giants
Tiki Barber thinks Tom Coughlin should be fired. "[The Giants players are] not listening to Tom Coughlin anymore," Barber said. "As much as we want to pass the buck, 'Oh, it was the offensive coordinator, let's get rid of Kevin Gilbride and bring in Ben McAdoo. 'Oh, now it's the defensive coordinator, so maybe it's time to get rid of Perry Fewell. At some point, it trickles uphill and it's got to be Tom Coughlin's responsibility. I've held off on saying this, but it is time for them to make a change."
Bill Parcells says he still has 'a lot of faith' in Giants' Tom Coughlin. I think he's a terrific coach. I think his record is pretty darn good. ... When you do the things that they've been doing, giving up a lot of points, turning the ball over ... you know, you are not going to win in the NFL. It doesn't make any difference then who is coaching ... The team is not very good and everybody is upset and that's just what happens."

On The Game: Game 10
Gamegirl - "It's hard to believe that the Giants defense gave up only 16 points and we lost. Then again it's also hard to believe that Eli Manning threw 5 interceptions and we lost by just 6 points."
Mikefan. - "The mistakes made all the difference, but the Giants almost overcame them and could have won this game. Close, as they say (if you're old enough) but no cigar. With five minutes left the Giants had four chances to go ahead if they could punch the ball in from the San Francisco 4 yard line, but couldn't make that happen. Actually there were no rushing attempts to 'punch the anything in'. Manning threw three incomplete passes and then threw his fifth interception, "

Giants (3-6) vs San Francisco (5-4)
New Orleans had won 11 straight games in the Superdome, but had to wait last week until the fourth quarter to take the lead away from the 49ers for the first time in the game. Down by three points, the 49ers needed to make a fourth-and-10 play on their last drive of the quarter for a chance to tie things up and get to overtime. They did and went on to win the game 27-24.
Last Sunday in Seattle the Giants held a 17-14 halftime lead over the defending Super Bowl Champions. The score was tied going into the fourth quarter, but the Seahawks kept coming at them with their running game and added 21 more points while holding the Giants to none, dealing them a 38-17 loss.
Giants - Seahawks Wrap-Up

Nov 16 There's something about the 49ers that has always brought out the best in the Giants at the biggest moments going back to the glory days when it was Bill Parcells vs. Bill Walsh and Phil Simms vs. Joe Montana.
Lose this one and it could be another December of meaningless games and job security speculation. But can one win really make that big of a difference? "It's certainly better than the alternative," coach Tom Coughlin said. "It would be a tremendous boost for all of us."

It all has gone wrong trying to get things right, as the Giants (3-6) have nearly fallen off the face of the NFC East. Winning one game will not cure all that ails this team, but at the moment winning one game almost seems impossible - given the breakdowns, the injuries, the lack of confidence and, quite frankly, the lack of talent on the assembled roster.
Their last-ranked defense can't stop anybody, and their up-and-down offense doesn't consistently move the ball. They can't count on their steady veteran running back, and they can't get consistent production from their supposedly dynamic defensive end. But Antrel Rolle knows the one thing the Giants can do: Fight.

Josh Brown has made each of his nine field-goal attempts and 24 of 24 extra-point attempts. Sixty percent of his kickoffs have been for touchbacks and none have been returned for more than 31 yards; the average return is 17.5 yards, the league low. Brown, who made 17 of his last 18 field goals in 2013, has even made two solo tackles on kickoffs.

Welcome to the second decade of Eli. It was 10 years ago this weekend that Tom Coughlin made the decision to name rookie Eli Manning the Giants' starting quarterback. Little did he -- or anyone else -- know at the time that it would be the last time he would have to make such a decision.

Nov 15 Tom Coughlin was reminded of last year, when running back Andre Brown returned in Week 10 from a broken leg. Brown had 30 carries for 115 yards in his first game. Starter Rashad Jennings returns this Sunday after missing four games - all losses - with a sprained MCL in his left knee. And he's ready to carry an Andre Brown-like workload, if necessary.
Despite a six-week absence, Jennings still leads the team in rushing yards and yards per carry. Even with the inevitable rust of not playing at game speed for over a month, Jennings' fresh legs should help give the offense more balance, and provide a legitimate target in the passing game out of the backfield. In

Jason Pierre-Paul is third in tackles for the Giants with 47 and tied for second in sacks with 31/2. But coach Tom Coughlin says he needs more from the fifth-year defensive end.
Jason Pierre-Paul has not had the season that many expected of him in a contract year. So is Pierre-Paul worried that his lack of big plays will affect contract talks with the Giants in the offseason? Not so much.
Jason Pierre-Paul made it clear Friday he doesn't consider himself a Giant for life or dream of spending his entire career with Big Blue."If I'm here, I'm here. If I'm not, I'm not."

Former Giants
Bill Parcells sounded a lot like the team's current coach Tom Coughlin when talking about the team's problems on defense this season on ESPN Radio with Michael Kay and Don LaGreca. The Giants defense is currently ranked worst in the league.

Nov 14 In what has become another lost season for the Giants, who soon will face elimination from playoff contention unless they go on an unexpected lengthy winning streak, at least there is Odell Beckham Jr.
After Beckham posted his first two career 100-yard games in back-to-back weeks and got the better of Seattle's All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman on Sunday, the attention he receives on game days is likely to increase.

Perry Fewell, the Giants defensive coordinator whose unit is ranked dead last in the NFL and is as much a reason as any for the team floundering at 3-6 and mired in a current four-game losing streak, was defiant when speaking to reporters.
Fewell said, "We're going to come and compete and get us a victory on Sunday.'' At this point, why not make such a boast? If the Giants (3-6) continue to lose, he's likely to be one of the scapegoats who will lose his job at the end of the season.
What is most troubling is that seemingly nobody on the team has any concrete answers as to how the Giants have reached this nadir. There have been injuries, but that does not explain away the consistent breakdowns that lead to big plays.
Fewell's defense finished 27th and 31st in yards allowed in 2011 and 2012 before rising to No. 8 last year. And if they end up in that bottom-six range again this year, the track record could become too much to ignore.

Nov 13 Despite his lengthy absence, Rashad Jennings (23) still leads the team in rushing with 396 yards. Coach Tom Coughlin expects Jennings to play Sunday. He has averaged 4.4 yards per carry.
Jennings' presence is critical this week because the Giants backfield has again been gashed by injuries. The team placed RB Michael Cox (fractured leg) on injured reserve and veteran backup Peyton Hillis was sent home because of the concussion he sustained Sunday.

Giants simplifying their defense to remedy league-worst ranking. When a defense gives up 350 yards rushing to an opponent, there is inevitably a lot of soul-searching to figure out how to improve the next week.
The Giants rank dead last in the league in total defense and last in rushing defense, surrendering an atrocious 144.7 rush yards per game. They haven't been much better against the pass either, ranked 25th.
This last month has been the worst stretch of defense the Giants have played. Worst as in worse ever. It's the first time in their history they have allowed at least 423 total yards to four straight opponents.

Nov 12 The problem with the Giants is the problem with the Yankees. Too often we see them for what they were and not what they are. The Giants act as if it was one interception that cost them the game in Seattle, or the fact that they couldn't come up with a couple of loose balls in the rain.
After hearing John Mara call last year's offense broken, after watching the team overhaul its offensive staff and revamp its offensive scheme in the off-season only to end up with the same record it had at this point last season, you can't help but wonder how much patience is left in that ownership well.

Rashad Jennings, who spent the first six seasons of his career with the Jaguars and Raiders and has never been in the playoffs -- never been on a team that finished with a winning record -- said the Giants have a different attitude than some of the other losing locker rooms he's been in.
It is all going wrong. Or, at the very least, most of it is going wrong. But Eli Manning, unlike Jason Pierre-Paul is not questioning the heart of some of his teammates. Pride is one thing, results another.

The Giants will have their chance to redeem themselves against another elusive QB, Colin Kaepernick, and the 49ers on Sunday. Coughlin encouraged his team to find motivation in playing for something beyond wins.

Nov 11 At the end of what will be his third straight year out of the playoffs and fifth in the last six years, Coughlin should fire the Giants and gracefully retire and leave on his terms before they have a chance to ask him to 'retire.'
You hate to see Tom Coughlin go out this way, with a team that flies in the face of so many of his good old-fashioned football values, a team that has lost its way since Super Bowl XLVI and is staring at another meaningless December inside an abandoned MetLife Stadium.
With the Giants making a strong case to miss the playoffs for the third consecutive season, coach Tom Coughlin is leaving no doubt who should be held accountable. For the second time in less than a week, Coughlin said that he as the head coach is most responsible for the Giants' failure to put together consistent performances that result in victories.

Are this year's 3-6 Giants better than last year's 3-6 Giants? A lot depends on what happens from here on out. The final seven games will tell us much more about whether this year's 3-6 is somehow more encouraging than last year's was.
Tom Coughlin noted that the Giants proved to be resilient after being at the same 3-6 crossroads last year to finish 7-9. Even if it is achieved, it would probably be viewed as a hollow victory by most fans.

Running back Rashad Jennings, who has missed the team's last four games with a knee sprain, is expecting to practice with the team Wednesday and return to game action Sunday against the 49ers.
Rashad Jennings is the perfect candidate to re-energize the ground game. His 396 rushing yards are 61 more than Andre Williams has - on 23 fewer carries.

All that talk about more playing time for defensive end Damontre Moore and wide receiver Corey Washington appeared to be little more than hollow chatter. Washington, one week after catching four balls and a touchdown pass in limited playing time, did not log a single offensive snap in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. Moore played just three.

The numbers don't lie. You are what the numbers and records say you are. And what the Giants are right now is the NFL's worst defense. They're allowing 404.9 yards per game after Sunday's disastrous performance against the run as the Seahawks powered their way - mostly uncontested - to 350 yards rushing.

Giants (3-5) vs Seahawks (5-3)
Last Sunday in Seattle the Seahawks were riding a 24-3 lead over the Oakland Raiders going into the second half. They couldn't relax though with the Raiders coming up with two touchdowns in the third quarter. The Raiders limited the Seahawks to two field goals and added another touchdown in the fourth, but that wasn't enough to avoid a 30-24 loss to the defending Super Bowl Champions.
On Monday night the Giants couldn't help being overwhelmed by the Indianapolis Colts 40-24. Despite paying tribute to Michael Strahan with a halftime ceremony they ended up with another loss and a few injuries which will force them to rely on more rookies and walk-ons as they hope to turn things around.
Giants - Colts Wrap-Up

Nov 9 How long has it been since the Giants scored a touchdown on their first offensive possession of a regular-season game? The player who scored that touchdown has since retired from football. So it's a bit of a trick question, of course, considering the medical circumstances surrounding running back David Wilson's unfortunate departure from the game.
"Giants need quick start vs. Seahawks or season's lost. This has been one of coach Tom Coughlin's mantras this season and, if you look at the performance of the Giants early in games, it is a mantra that seemingly has been ignored by his players.

Eli Manning has a message for Giants fans: "We're not dead." They're not dead yet because it still is folly to count out a team quarterbacked by Manning and coached by Tom Coughlin. We have been down this road before with the two of them, even if the current one is littered with potholes the size of craters. No one saw the Super Bowl XLII championship coming, and no one saw the Super Bowl XLVI championship coming.
The Giants know that when the defending Super Bowl champs are on your schedule, you take notice. You up your game. You try to rise to the occasion. They know because they've been in that bull's-eye quite a bit in the last decade or so, having won two titles and gone through the following season taking everyone's best shot. Sometimes they were pretty good at it.

Giants can't play like chumps versus Seahawk champs. Amid all the dropped passes by his receivers, Coughlin counted 21 points given up on defense that were "flat-out gifts." It's an ongoing problem to find even a semblance of consistency.
Preston Parker dropped so many passes last week against the Colts that he took to Twitter - something he rarely does - and sent a message to Giants fans: "I will redeem myself" and included two hashtags: #notacceptable and #forgiveme.

Mathias Kiwanuka knows you will think he's crazy. He knows his Giants haven't given anyone reason to believe in them this month, not after a month's worth of play so uninspired that those in the Big Blue locker room are questioning this team's heart. "We have eight games left, and I wouldn't be surprised if we win six or seven of them."
What has Antrel Rolle done all season, as leader of a suspect secondary, to justify him casting aspersions on others who he says don't play with proper passion? Nothing. That's the answer. Rolle should be pointing fingers, all right - in his own direction.

The increased emphasis on cornerbacks clutching and grabbing was supposed to decrease their effectiveness. Seattle still has the league's sixth-ranked pass defense despite losing some key players and being hampered by injuries. They insist their philosophy hasn't been any different this year.

Nov 8 The crowd at CenturyLink Field has a reputation as the NFL's loudest, so the Giants were determined that Friday's practice would be the loudest ever. "It was pretty realistic," said kicker Josh Brown, who spent his first five NFL seasons with the Seahawks, and has been back four times as a visitor.
To quote coach Tom Coughlin, when he was asked about the decibels after a practice-field session that rattled windows in the training facility, "What did you say?"  We always have noise," he added. "This was special noise." Friday afternoon's noise was meant to simulate the runway takeoff-caliber sounds that come from the stands in Seattle.

A Little Bit More Corey Washington. Fans have been calling for the 6-4 rookie out of Newberry. They've seen enough of Preston Parker. Many are sick of Rueben Randle, even though he's not going anywhere. He's their No. 1 option right now and drawing the opposition's No. 1 cornerback. But Washington has promise. In his first extended opportunity in the fourth quarter on Monday night, he caught four passes for 48 yards and a touchdown.

It would've been optimal for the Giants to bring the veteran Jennings back into the fold to deal with the environment, but he was limited again on Friday as he recovers from a knee injury and probably will be kept out until next week's game.
Running back Andre Williams has had a rough go of it as the Giants' primary ball carrier over the last five weeks as Rashad Jennings recovering from a sprained knee, but it certainly is not for a lack of off the field homework. In fact, Williams told reporters on Friday that he has been studying film closely with Jennings.
Williams had 15 carries for 66 yards and a touchdown in their 45-14 Week 5 rout at Washington, but his totals have declined in all four games since, bottoming out Monday night against Indianapolis when he was held to just 22 yards on a dozen rushes for a sorry 1.8 yards-per-carry.

The Seattle Seahawks are getting healthy ahead of Sunday's game against the Giants, and that's bad news for a banged-up and inexperienced receiving corps. With a matchup against one of the most physical secondaries in the NFL, it could spell more trouble for Rueben Randle, Odell Beckham Jr. and Preston Parker.
