Game
Notes: "I was really looking
forward to the Giants winning today at home against the Eagles. Any fan who came
out to watch was hoping for a big win, and all I can say is that I hope we have
all hands on deck when we face the Eagles again next season. Odell Beckham Jr.
was the standout once again especially with that stunning 63 yard reception for
a touchdown. Rueben Randle was a close second, making some real big plays when
we needed them. Once again though the running game went nowhere, and without that
balance, drives that could have taken us all the way to the endzone ended up with
field goals. Things were pretty close at halftime with the Giants trailing
by just one point, but that blocked punt in the third quarter was a killer, and
the Giants trailed for the rest of the game to the very end. It's hard to say
it was disappointing when overall the whole season was disappointing, but as a
football fan you have to take the good with the bad when it happens. On the
other hand, I think there were a lot of plays that should have been called for
penalties and mostly in the Giants favor. I mean the refs sure have changed the
way they look at pass interference from the first game to wanting to jump on an
early bus home today. So there, I said it! I'll go down as a bad sport after watching
the Giants lose today in the final game of the season, but don't worry, I'll get
over my funk by next year."
Game Notes:
"It was a better result for the Giants then when they first played the Eagles
and both teams came away with six scores. The Giants had 2 touchdowns and 4 field
goals. The Eagles had 4 touchdowns and 2 field goals. The failing for the Giants
was in not turning more opportunities into touchdowns instead of field goals. The
Eagles had been tough to run on earlier in the season, but over the last three
games they allowed an average of 134 rushing yards per game. Those were all losses
for them and they got back to form today against the Giants, allowing just 76
yards on 25 carries. Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams averaged just about 3
yards a carry and the running game is something the Giants will have to address
in the offseason. Eli Manning was forced to carry the load and he threw the
ball 53 times. Despite that the offensive line kept him sack free and there were
some big plays, but Manning was a bit off with his receivers today. You'll remember
the exciting plays by Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle, but nearly half the
balls thrown to them fell incomplete. Larry Donnell pulled in only 2 of 6 and
Preston Parker caught 2 of 4. The Giants lost Nat Berhe and Stevie Brown, two
safeties, to injuries in the first quarter. Overall the defense gave up 24 points
and that would have won this game except for the special teams blocked
punt and touchdown return that put the Eagles ahead. Jason Pierre-Paul got by
Jason Peters for two sacks and he's made a strong case for coming back next year.
The secondary had some Eagle receivers running free at times. Defensive coordinator
Perry Fewell might not make it back. As for Tom Coughlin, it's been three
straight seasons with the Giants missing the playoffs. They had a six-game losing
streak last year and a seven-game losing streak this year. The fans have lived
through two straight Decembers knowing there would be no way to win the division
and make the playoffs. Their record dropped year to year from 7-9 to 6-10 and
yet I think he'll be back and with his coaching there is hope for next season."
