Game
Notes: "Oh my gosh! I was so
excited to see the Giants go into halftime with a 21-3 lead. I should have known
better, as no lead seems to be big enough until the game is actually over. Last
week it was 21-10 over the Cowboys and we ended up with the same result, another
loss. If ever a team needed a win it was, well I guess both these teams, but why
did it have to be the Jaguars instead of my Giants? The Giants started a long
drive in the first quarter and Rashad Jennings ran the ball in on the first play
in the second and things were going so well. The Giants started killing it and
had three straight drives that ended in touchdowns before giving up just three
points to the Jaguars to end the half. I thought for sure we were going to coast
to a win today instead of losing this game by one point. In
the second half they were outscored 22-3. I know we lost offensive lineman Geoff
Schwartz in the first quarter, but they had managed in the second after he was
gone. Anyway, the offense seemed to just disappear in the second half. Eli Manning
was hurrying his passes and was sacked four times. Running
back Rashad Jennings was hurt and did not play in the fourth quarter and that
didn't help. The biggest problem though was with the turnovers. They turned
the ball over three times and two became instant touchdowns for the Jaguars. This
was supposed to be a game the Giants
could win as well as the next on the the road again against the 2-10 Tennessee
Titans. It seems that nothing goes well for the Giants these days and there are
no easy wins."
Game Notes:
"The Giants couldn't contain their excitement or their lead going into the
second half against a Jacksonville Jaguars team that barely ever wins a game.
There's a song with lyrics - I left my heart in San Francisco. Tom Coughlin may
have left his heart and any chance of repeating as head coach for the Giants in
Jacksonville where he got his first start. Today he, or the Giants, gave the die-hard
Jaguar fans a big comeback victory that they will long remember. How did the
Giants blow a 21-3 first half lead? Some of the explanations will revolve around
the fact that right tackle Geoff Schwartz was taken off the field in the first
quarter with a left ankle injury. His replacement, James Brewer, was having a
rough go of it before he left the game in the fourth quarter with a concussion.
The Giants shuffled things around after that, but you know how things go for Eli
Manning and the ground game when the offensive line is at its makeshift best.
When Rashad Jennings didn't return in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury,
that about sealed the deal for having no offense against a talented and aggressive
Jaguars front line that sacked Manning four times in this game and caused him
to fumble twice. How did the Jaguars score against the Giants defense? Well
you have to go right back to the Giants offense giving away points. Geno Hayes
sacking of Eli Manning caused a forced fumble into the end zone for the Jaguars
first touchdown. In the fourth quarter tight end Larry Donnell lost the ball after
a third-down catch and it was recovered for a touchdown by the Jaguars. In
between those scores, the Giants defense had given up a touchdown when the Jaguars
were moving the ball effectively with mostly all running plays before quarterback
Blake Bortles surprised them with a 30-yard touchdown pass. Their field goal drive
near the end of the fourth quarter used up all the Giants timeouts and left them
with just 28 seconds on the clock. That was just enough time for dedicated Jaguar
fans to rejoice once again when Manning was sacked and the fumble was recovered
by their home team. The Giants showed that they are better than the Jaguars
only in the standings where they have a lousy three wins instead of two. The best
the Giants can do now is match their poor 7-9 record from last year, but don't
forget, they have to win their last four remaining games even to accomplish that."
