Game Notes:
"It was a great day for a football game if you were lucky enough
to have a boyfriend who has season tickets to the Jets game. Getting
a foot in the door for a Giants fan was the big battle today, but
if you managed it, it paid off bigtime. The temperature was in the
mid 60's and if you could ignore all the green stuff around you
and sitting in a different area then you usually occupy, you were
home free (pardon the pun) to enjoy a really good Giants game.
The Jets came ready to play stopping the Giants cold on the opening
drive, and they scored a touchdown on theirs to
make the score Jets 7-0. Things could have turned out worse for
the Giants, but Brandon Short was all over the Jets causing fumbles
and turnovers and he had one sack. The Giants should have put this
one away in the fourth quarter when they went up by two touchdowns
after having Kerry Collins rush the ball across the goal for the
two point conversion.
Of course they made you sweat the outcome and the game ran way late
into overtime and all when it shouldn't have had to, but admit it,
you had a great time even with all those Jet fans around, thanks
to the way it turned out."
Game Notes:
"You want football,
pick another team. You want Hollywood football movie type entertainment
tune into the Giants. They are the NFL's answer to ESPN's entertainment
show 'Playmakers', and all the action is real. The Giants should
have had this game won, up 14 big points in the fourth quarter,
but you know the routine if you're a Giants fan. They let the other
team, that would be the Jets this time, catch up in the fourth quarter.
Fassel kind of helped the drama along. When the Giants had a first
down with 29 seconds left in the fourth quarter at their own 25
yard line, instead of taking a shot or two for a big yardage play
downfield and maybe a last chance field goal, he had Collins take
a knee. That sent the game into overtime. The Giants won the coin
toss, got the ball, and moved nicely downfield. Things were looking
pretty good until Brett Conway missed a 39 yard field goal.
It was back and forth until the Giants last drive when Tiki Barber
ran the ball ten yards to the Jets 11 for a first down. Jim Fassel,
anxious to keep you on the edge of your seat, didn't have Collins
spike the ball to stop the clock. Instead, with time running out
it looked like a fire drill as the field goal unit ran onto the
field. This time Brett Conway made the 29 yard field goal attempt
and Fassel doesn't have to answer as many post game embarrassing
questions, just a few."
