Game Notes:
"Monday night games at the stadium are always tough because of work the next day, but you have to be there, especially for a division game like this. I wasn't crazy that it rained, but
my seats are just under the overhang, and I can even put up with overtime if the Giants win, but that didn't happen.
Our offense was bad right from the start. Kerry Collins was sacked twice and fumbled the ball once on our first two offensive series.
The Cowboys were held in check on their first series, and on their next, Ralph Brown intercepted the ball and took it all the way down the field. It was exciting to see the defense score a
touchdown for the second week in a row, but then it seemed like Uncle Bill's Cowboys were always putting points up. You could tell things were changing, and I thought we had them in the fourth
quarter, but you know a Parcells coached team never gives up.
The Giants had their chances. Even if you forget the entire game, all the penalties, fumbles, dropped balls, everything started fresh
again in the overtime quarter. The Cowboys got the ball first, made some yards and had to punt. We got it at our own 20 yard line, and all the offense could come up with was a penalty and
three incomplete passes, for minus five yards. The Cowboys got it at their own 43, took it down to our 7, and kicked the winning field goal.
All we can do now is beat the Cowboys on their own turf to even things up, but first, we have to figure out what we can fix for next week's Redskins game. Boy, am I tired"
Game Notes:
"It was touch and go for the Giants on the first series. They had the ball for the 'touch', but there was no'go' as the
Cowboys put the pressure on Fassel's patched up offensive line. So guess what? If you have left tackle Luke Petitgout (back) sitting out, and you replace him with rookie Jeff Roehl, and have
the center Chris Bober move to right tackle, and put rookie Wayne Lucier in his spot, along with this, fullback Jim Finn (quad) sits out, it just all doesn't work.
Anyway, next on the field, the Giants defense was all 'go'. The Cowboys started at their 21, and had to punt from their 11. The Giants
on offense in their second series did worse than before. Kerry Collins fumbled the ball, and was sacked for a second time. After they trotted off, the Giants defense came up big, scoring the
first touchdown of the game, for the second week in a row, and the Giants were up 7-0.
It all went downhill after that because Parcells waved his magic wand
on the sidelines, and the Cowboys tied the game up on their next series.
They went on to score four more times before the Giants came up with their first offensive touchdown, in the middle of the 3rd quarter. Then the Cowboys answered that with two more scores,
field goals, to increase their lead to 29-14.
With all this going on, you got the feeling that Kerry Collins had his stuff for this game, even if he couldn't get going. Kerry finally rallied the troops in the 4th quarter to two touchdowns
with a two point conversion to tie it, and then finally to a field goal to put the Giants up by 3 with only 11 Fassel seconds left on the clock.
Gamegirl and all her friends should have been able to drive home, stuck but happy in lousy stadium traffic. Instead Parcells managed
to squeeze the 11 seconds, and his good starting field position into a field goal to tie it up. Then, to add to his list of credentials for his next hall of fame run, he stole the game and
the whole Monday night show by winning it in overtime.
I don't want to forget to point out that Brian Mitchell had a good game. The usual cast, Kerry Collins, Amani Toomer, Ike Hilliard,
and Tiki Barber had their stuff. You just didn't see the usual numbers from Barber and Collins, because they didn't have a good supporting line."
