Kerry Collins was 31-of-43 for 276 yards and 3 Ints.
Jeremy Shockey had 11 catches for 110 yards.
Tiki Barber had 20 carries for 71 yards and ran for 1 TD.
Ike Hilliard had 8 catches for 73 yards.
Amani Toomer had 3 catches for 38 yards.
Game Notes:
" It was a nice day to be at a football game. Maybe that's why so many people came up from Miami to watch this one. I'm just kidding, but there sure seemed to be a lot of Dolphin fans
sitting around the stadium this game.
The first half was give and take with the Giants playing like they were in preseason mode. They were missing out on opportunities on the defense, and turning the ball over on offense. As soon
as we scored, Miami came back and did the same. Then in the second half, the game just seemed to slip away. It's hard to explain, Jeremy Shockey was making some big plays, and Tiki Barber
was making plays, but the clock was always running, and the Giants just didn't seem to have enough time or enough chances to catch up.
The defense wasn't playing all that bad, but suddenly the game was over and the Giants had lost. It didn't help that Matt Bryant hurt his leg at the end of the first half, and Jeff Feagles
missed a field goal, but this game didn't come down to where it was that close anyway. Let's just hope Bryant is back for the next game against the Patriots, and that the Giants can break
out of this preseason game play mode that they seem to be stuck in."
Game Notes:
"In the first half the Giants stopped Ricky Williams cold. He had only 2 yards. They did a pretty good job stopping him
in the second half as well. Ricky gained only 37 yards for a game total of 39 yards on 22 carries.
The Giants did a pretty good job on quarterback Jay Fiedler too. He completed only 14 passes on 26 attempts for 167 yards and no touchdowns. Compare that to last game where they
let Washington quarterback Patrick Ramsey complete 23 passes for 348 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The only problem here is that they lost the game, and the difference was in turnovers and lack of turnovers. The Giants gave the Dolphins the ball four times, and they could have taken it
away from them twice and didn't.
First, Omar Stoutmire had a chance at an interception, and then Ralph Brown. The ball was in their hands. They dropped it and Miami went on to score both times. Meanwhile Kerry Collins threw
three interceptions. They weren't of the dumb quarterback variety, so you don't have to worry about things down the line, but they all hurt, and Ike Hilliard fumbled the ball away, and that
was the game.'
"Miami tight end Randy McMichael said he'd be the best tight end on the field today. Shockey had 11 receptions for 110 yards, and
McMichael had 2 for 57.
Miami quarterback Jay Fiedler was predicting big yardage after the catch for his receivers, and the Giants have permitted an opposing receiver to rack up 100 receiving yards in each game up
to now. No Miami receiver came close to that, and Fiedler's passing yards totaled only 167."
"The big play of the game was when Ricky Williams took a handoff from Fieldler, and on a reverse, handed the ball to James McKnight
who picked up a series of blocks down the right sideline. He raced 68 yards for a touchdown to give the Dolphins a 10-7 lead."
"Jim Fassel kept his word and "rested" Tiki Barber. That amounted to 3 running plays by Delvin Joyce for 6 yards, while
Tiki had 20 for 71 yards. Tiki also caught 4 passes for 28 yards, and Delvin had 1 catch for 6 yards."
