Game
Notes:
"It's not over until it's over, and somehow with the Giants it's never over. The season just started and we've already had two overtime games in a row. The Giants were winning this one
21-3 at the half, and still 21-10 at the end of the third quarter. Only a real Giant fan would worry with their team up by 11 points, but then only a real Giant fan knows what can happen.
Who writes the scripts for these Giants games anyway? Maybe they should have won one of those Emmys that FOX gave out on their awards show after the game.
The Giants were everything you wanted them to be in the first half, and then they let it all get away from them. Kerry Collins completed
14 out of 20 passes in the first half for 189 yards, but then he only got 37 yards in the entire second half on 7 completions out of 14.
Anyway, the Giants have a bye, so for the next two long weeks, I think I'll just focus on that last overtime drive where they had to start out from their own 6 yard line, thanks to a penalty
on the kickoff. Kerry Collins took it down to the Redskins 7, mixing up passes to Toomer, Shockey, Jim Finn, and runs by Tiki Barber. I won't even let myself think about the bad snap Jeff
Feagles had to handle so Matt Bryant could kick that winning field goal, or the bad one the time before it that made him miss."
Game Notes:
"You have to wonder about the NFC East, about which of the four teams is playing like they could really be a Super Bowl
contender. I mean, the Giants had the ball on their own 20, and a 21-18 lead with only 2:27 left in the game, and they couldn't put it away. First the offense failed badly, going 3 and out
while using only 26 seconds.
Then the defense let Washington quickly move the ball from their own 28 yard line to a first down at the Giants 19. The Redskins could have won this game, because even though the Giants came
up with a 4 yard sack on the next play. It was still 2nd down and 14 at the Giants 23, with over a minute and a half left. After a 4 yard completion to Coles, it was a crushing 10 yard penalty
on Washington that really killed their chance to end the game on this drive. They had to settle for a field goal and overtime.
The most consistent team in the NFC East is the Eagles who don't show these strange spurts of good and bad on offense and defense. It's just been all bad for them, scoring only 10 points in
two games while giving up 48. So they're 0-2 just behind Parcells shaky Cowboys at 1-1. The Giants are 2-1, the same as the Redskins, but none of these teams inspires any confidence at all
right now.
How valuable is Tiki Barber? You don't have to answer that because it goes without saying. You see Barber limping off the field or holding
his arm in pain, and next thing, he's back in there making the big plays. Tiki had 28 carries for 126 yards, and he caught 4 passes for 18 yards. In the long overtime drive, he had three carries
for 30 yards.
Will Allen put on a real good show. Aside from that super athletic interception to prevent a touchdown, he was in man to man coverage
on Laveranues Coles for a lot of that game. Coles still got his third straight 100-yard plus game, but Allen did a good job keeping the Redskins star receiver him in check for most of the
game. Allen was almost too good, because Ramsey had to look away from Coles for awhile, and that's when they started to have success.
As for the Redskins, how valuable is Patrick Ramsey? Ramsey threw for only 80 yards in the first half but had 268 in the second. Imagine
if Spurrier stuck with him all last year. Ramsey seems to have good vision downfield, is mobile and considering it's only his
eighth start he played smart."
