Dec 31 Victor Cruz does not need to be told stories about the legend of "Postseason Eli." The Giants' veteran wide receiver is one of the few on the current roster who has lived it.
Eli Manning is mentioned often these days as one of the Giants' liabilities approaching the NFL playoffs due to his shortcomings this season, despite his two-time Super Bowl-winning pedigree.

Ben McAdoo hasn't changed his mind. On Friday he said the same thing he said on Wednesday. He's bringing the Giants to Washington this weekend to win the game.
Janoris Jenkins could be game-time decision vs. Redskins. With Jenkins' status still up in the air, it seems like holding the Pro Bowler out until next week for the playoffs would be a prudent move.

Sterling Shepard has been everything the Giants hoped for - and then some. Shepard enters the finale of his first NFL regular season Sunday in Washington with coach Ben McAdoo raving publicly about him. And that never happens.
Before Shepard ever stepped onto the field, Odell Beckham Jr. was touting him as the next great receiver. He tweeted him (or was it tweaked him?) with a simple number - "1,306" - to signify how many receiving yards he wanted Shepard to have in 2016 to break his own NFL rookie record.

His first NFL game could have been his last. Andrew Adams is aware of how tenuous a football life can be and is living proof what does not get you fired can make you stronger.
Brett Jones has won the Grey Cup. Jones, the Giants' reserve interior offensive lineman, hopes to join a select group of players who have won championships in the CFL and NFL this season.

Dec 30 Special Report - All right, let's file some things under facts we know for sure ... First of all, we know that Giants' head coach Ben McAdoo is going to play his regulars Sunday in Washington, regardless of the fact that his team is cemented in the No. 5 seed (first wild card) and the result of the game won't make any difference.
What we don't know is how long he'll play them - will it depend on the score, on the tenor of the game, on the ferocity which with it's being played? He knows that his regulars are going to be even more important the next week, the first round of the playoffs.

The Giants broke from their typical practice routine on Thursday. After stretching, players usually break up by position groups for drills. But on Thursday, the players were summoned to midfield where captain Jonathan Casillas delivered an impassioned speech.
It was the moment when the regular-season ended and the postseason began for the Giants. Technically that happens on Sunday in Washington after the Giants finish their 16th game on the schedule. But Casillas made sure everyone understood how important this game is to their future, that preparations for the wild-card round - and possibly beyond - cannot be crammed into the space of one week.

Dec 29 They're playing to win the game. Giants coach Ben McAdoo left no doubt Wednesday, adamantly declaring his team will go all out Sunday in Washington and play to beat the Redskins.
Ben McAdoo channeled his inner Herm Edwards Wednesday, saying he will play to win the game on Sunday even though the contest against Washington means nothing.
At no point, however, did McAdoo say that his starters would play the entire game. He was especially vague when it came to questions about quarterback Eli Manning, who has thrown the ball 91 times in his last two games.

Former Giants
Tom Coughlin interviews with Jaguars for head coaching job. Coughlin was the first coach and general manager of the expansion Jaguars beginning in 1995 at age 49.

Dec 28 Giants starters waiting to hear from Ben McAdoo if they're playing vs. Washington. For now, the players are operating under the assumption that it will be a full go against Washington.

Giants describe how they learned of clinching a playoff berth. Victor Cruz was in a restaurant on Christmas Eve when he found out the Giants made the playoffs.
The Giants, who clinched their postseason berth when the Saints beat the Bucs on Saturday, will return to the playoffs for the first time since their last Super Bowl victory over the Patriots.

The sweetest sound of Rashad Jennings' NFL career was his phone "blowing up with calls and texts" on Saturday. That sound signified the Giants had made the playoffs.
For the first time in his career, Jennings is going to the playoffs. The eight-year veteran has never been there - never even been on a winning team until this season.

Dec 27 Eli Manning must play better for Giants to make another Super Bowl run. The Giants have to hope Manning can rediscover that playoff magic because he hasn't looked Super Bowl-caliber during the first 15 games of this season.
Even though the Giants' game in Washington is meaningless on Sunday with a wild card game on the horizon, Manning doesn't want to rest. But while he wants to play, Manning said he'll do as he's told.

Ben McAdoo has no good reason to play Eli Manning, Odell Beckham and other Giants starters vs. Washington Have a seat, guys. This is not 2007; the Giants are not playing an undefeated team and Manning is now almost 36 years old.
Tom Coughlin allowed Manning to use the last 2007 regular-season game against the Patriots as a springboard to glory and the greatest quarterback in New York Football Giants history doesn't want to rest against the Redskins on New Year's Day.

It could be the Packers, Seahawks, Falcons or Lions awaiting the Giants in the first round of the playoffs. All that is certain is the Giants are the No. 5 seed in the NFC and will be on the road.
Their opponent is yet to be determined, but here is a look at the four possible opponents and the scenarios involving each.

Dec 26 The Giants' regular season finale at the Redskins on New Year's Day in Landover, Md., has been moved to a 4:25 p.m. Eastern kickoff, the NFL announced Sunday.
Giants should sit Eli Manning and other starters this week. This is not 2007; the Giants are not playing an undefeated team and Manning is now almost 36 years old.

Ben McAdoo's faith in Steve Spagnuolo pays off for Giants. A pair of games nearly a decade ago has indirectly had a profound impact on the Giants' current run.
In the 2007 season, the Giants won a championship as a wild card. In 2011, they got in with a win in the final regular-season game, only their ninth victory. Then they won the Super Bowl.
Their defense will keep them in games. But they are a flawed team, averaging 15 points in their past four games. That will get you ousted from the playoffs in a heartbeat.
There looks like there's a crack in the Giants' defense, and it's coming at exactly the wrong time if they hope to get very far in the playoffs.

Dec 25 Giants clinch first playoff berth in five years with Bucs loss. What a Merry Christmas indeed for the Giants. Big Blue's coaches and players will wake up on Sunday morning with a playoff berth resting under their trees on Christmas Day.
Giants finally earn another shot at snagging fifth Super Bowl title. Back in the playoffs after four years out of them that seemed like fourscore and seven years ago to a franchise and fan base with great expectations.
Saturday's 31-24 victory by the New Orleans Saints over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers punched the Giants' ticket to the playoffs as one of two NFC wild-card teams - the fifth seed when the NFL postseason opens on the weekend of Jan. 7-8.
Eli Manning grew up in New Orleans rooting for the Saints. And unlike most of his childhood, the Saints did not disappoint him. If the Bucs had won, the Giants would have needed the Cowboys to beat the Lions on Monday night to clinch a wild card in Week 16.

Former Giants
Tom Coughlin is heading back to Jacksonville...for an interview, at the very least. The former Giants coach will reportedly interview for the Jaguars' head coaching job.
Tom Coughlin is a candidate for the head-coaching job in Jacksonville but could wind up being part of the front office as a "football czar" or some other title.

Dec 24 The Giants - even after Thursday night's huge letdown loss to the Eagles in Philadelphia - are projected to have a 99 percent chance to make the playoffs. So, for the morose and the curious, what about that remaining 1 percent?
The Giants still are in control of their own path to the playoffs. For now, though, they will be spectators to it. The Giants will have four games to watch in three different time slots on Saturday and Monday night, any of which could clinch for them a first postseason berth since 2011.

A common complaint from fans is this: We care more than the players do. You do not care more than Odell Beckham Jr. does.
Say what you will about Beckham, but do not say he is not passionate about winning for its own sake. He is fiercely competitive and will give you everything he's got in every game.

The Giants had meetings scheduled for Saturday morning and the players then will have a few days off. They'll return to practice on Tuesday. "I think it's important that they get away from it a little bit, refresh their minds and think about the type of football they want to play moving forward," Ben McAdoo said.

It's good to be on Olivier Vernon's Christmas shopping list! The Giants defensive end gave every one of his teammates and coaches, as well as other members of the organization, a personalized bottle of Louis XIII Cognac, according to multiple sources.

Ben McAdoo has no excuses for Walkieleaks. The Giants' head coach said Friday he takes full responsibility for his illegal use of a walkie-talkie during the team's 10-7 win over the Cowboys on Dec. 11, and will pay the $50,000 fine the NFL hit him with as a result.

Giants (10-4) vs Eagles (5-9) Game Preview
Last week the Eagles lost a close one to the Baltimore Ravens when they decided to go for a two point conversion on the last play of the game. They could have tied the game kicking an extra point, but when the conversion failed, they lost 27-26.
The Giants continued on their quest to the playoffs, by keeping Detroit out of the end zone. The Lions managed just two field goals, while the Giants came up with a field goal and two touchdowns to take the win 17-6.
Giants - Lions Wrap-Up

Dec 22 This is the biggest Giants game in five years. These resilient, irrepressible, battle-hardened Giants seem to understand the 5-9 Eagles will die trying to stop them. They won't be offering hot cocoa and marshmallows for the visitors when the Big Blue bus pulls up at the Linc.
It won't be easy. Division rivalry games, for the most part, aren't. The Giants' defense, which has driven the team's playoff push and been one of the best in the NFL, will again star.

If the Giants beat the 5-9 Eagles, who have lost nine of their last 11 games, they're in. But the Giants still would hold a major advantage in the wild-card chase if they lost. Thus, McAdoo's singular focus on blocking and tackling - and blocking out the what-ifs of the playoff picture.
A Giants' victory on Thursday night will qualify them for the playoffs for the first time since 2011 and they will earn no worse than the No. 1 wild-card spot. The Birds have lost five in a row and are ready to fly south for the winter.

No joke, Ben McAdoo is a fun guy. As they travel to meet the Eagles having won eight of nine, as they travel down the Turnpike carrying the league's only two wins against the mighty Cowboys on their resume, McAdoo has earned his way into the NFL's Coach of the Year discussion.

Dec 21 Wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr., cornerback Janoris Jenkins, safety Landon Collins and special teamer Dwayne Harris were named to the NFC Pro Bowl team. Beckham will play in the game for the third time, while it's the first selection for Jenkins, Collins and Harris.

Shane Vereen's season is over, and backup QB Ryan Nassib's is too. The Giants placed both offensive players on IR Tuesday morning, ending their respective years.

Cornerback Janoris Jenkins isn't sure if he'll be able to play in Thursday's game against the Eagles. "I don't know," Jenkins said. "I'm just focused on getting better every day and just see what happens."
Jenkins, who left in the second quarter of Sunday's win after taking an inadvertent knee to the back from teammate Trevin Wade, said he is just dealing with a bruise, but he remains very sore and he hasn't tried to run yet.

Why Super Bowl contenders need to fear the Giants . The Giants have a dominating defense front to back capable of short circuiting the most high-powered offenses and they have Odell Beckham, who not only is always the best player on the field, but comes equipped with Eli Manning, who can get him the ball in the tightest windows. All of a sudden, the Giants are a team nobody is going to want to play in January - or even the first Sunday in February.

Victor Cruz out to finally ease pain where knee injury halted Giants career. Eight-hundred and two days after Victor Cruz's knee and career blew up in the back right corner of the end zone in Philadelphia, the Giants wide receiver will return to the spot it all began and seek closure.
The knee is behind him, the rare left calf injury that stole last season too. He's made it all the way back, had big catches, even scored a touchdown. Now Cruz will play at Lincoln Financial Field for the first time since the day he admits changed his career.

Left guard Justin Pugh wanted to make a clear distinction between his feelings for Philadelphia and his feelings for the city's football team. "I love the city of Philadelphia, I hate the Philadelphia Eagles," Pugh said. "That's all I've got to say about that."

The NFL fined the Giants $150,000, coach Ben McAdoo $50,000 and moved back their fourth-round pick in the 2017 draft after determining that the team illegally used walkie-talkies during the second half of a 10-7 win over the Cowboys Dec. 11 at MetLife Stadium.

Dec 20 The reminders have been relentless, from the first day Ben McAdoo gathered his Giants together: "We are here to put that fifth Super Bowl trophy in the case." And now it is no longer a pipe dream. It is no longer The Impossible Dream, it is no longer Mission Impossible. This is real now.

Shane Vereen re-injures triceps, season could be over. Vereen was expected to provide a jolt to the offense, but he had just two carries for 11 yards and three catches for 19 yards in his return from injured reserve.

A day after Janoris Jenkins was knocked out of the Giants' 17-6 win over the Lions following a hit to the back, the cornerback and Big Blue got some good news about his status.
It's unclear if Jenkins will be able to return to the lineup on Thursday as the Giants try to clinch a playoff berth. Jenkins was limited to a season-low 15 snaps on Sunday.
Jenkins conceivably could sit out the finale, too. It might be more prudent for the Giants to have him as close to full strength going into the playoffs rather than taking a risk.

On The Game: Game 14
Gamegirl ---"It was great to see Victor Cruz make a 29 yard catch on the Giants opening drive. That put them right up to the red zone, and after Paul Perkins ran for six and eleven yards, a few plays later, Sterling Shepard caught a pass from Manning for a touchdown...."
Mikefan. ---"The defense didn't allow a single touchdown in this game. That was surprising, especially after top cornerback Janoris Jenkins took a knee to the back, and was down for a while. It looked bad, but Jenkins was able to walk off the field. He didn't return for the second half, but the defense held up...

Giants (9-4) vs Lions (9-4) Game Preview
It was another come from behind win for the Lions in their game with the Bears last Sunday. Detroit has now won their last 5 games in a row with that 20-17 score over the Bears.
The Cowboys had lost just one game this year, and it was to the Giants in the season opener. They built up an impressive 11-1 record, but the Giants took them down again in the rematch, winning with a 10-7 score.
Giants - Cowboys Wrap-Up

Dec 18 Letting Eli Manning call the plays would have been the right move for Giants. It was Eli Manning's opportunity for a hostile takeover of the Giants play-calling and he blew it.

From the look in his eyes to the sound of his voice, you can tell this is different for Eli Manning. With a chance to reach the playoffs for the first time since his last Super Bowl run after the 2011 season, the Giants quarterback's heightened sense of awareness is obvious.

The Giants are 9-4, tied for the second-best record in the NFC, and have a 1.5-game lead on a wild card spot with three games to go. If several games break the right way this weekend while they beat the Lions at MetLife Stadium, they could clinch a playoff berth as soon as Monday night.

Once again, an exciting playoff run for the Giants rests on Eli Manning's shoulders. His numbers are down this season, but there are good reasons for that, not excuses. There has been this revolving door of offensive lineman, and there is no running game to speak of and there is no real serious threat except Odell Beckham Jr. among his receivers.

Former Giants
Damontre Moore's star-crossed NFL career may have finally bottomed out. The former Giant and current Seahawk defensive end was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and for driving with a suspended license Saturday in the Seattle area.

Dec 17 Special Report - Historically, the Giants have sunk into denial when it comes to the subject of disappointing first-round draft picks. Like now. It has become increasingly more obvious, even to the television analysts, that left offensive tackle Ereck Flowers is not improving.
His technique is not acceptable, he allows sacks and pressures, he isn't great - or even acceptable - at run-blocking, and yet the coaching staff, from the head man, Ben McAdoo, to offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan and offensive line coach Mike Solari continues to provide excuses and bubbling optimism.

Christmas is coming early for Giants offensive line coach Mike Solari. His present is the return of left guard Justin Pugh, who has missed five games with a sprained right knee.
Three different players started in Pugh's absence. Marshall Newhouse started three games, including the past two, while Adam Gettis and Brett Jones each started one game.

The Giants offense needs more than just Odell Beckham. Sure, With the running game in shambles, Big Blue needs a big boost from its secondary targets: Victor Cruz and Sterling Shepard.
There's been a lot of hand wringing over the Giants' offense this season. And that's understandable considering that through 13 games, the Giants rank 27th in the league in total offense, 30th in the league in rushing and have failed to reach 30 points in any game this season.

NFL News
When is Super Bowl 51? Date, kickoff, time, TV channel, halftime show for NFL 2017 big game.

Dec 16 Ereck Flowers' status as the Giants' starting left tackle was reaffirmed by offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan. But the embattled second-year player had no interest in discussing that.
The Giants left tackle abruptly called off a group interview at his locker when asked about his coaches supporting him as Big Blue's starter despite the struggles of the second-year pro out of Miami (Fla.), Jerry Reese's ninth-overall first-round pick in 2015.
He not only has struggled with his technique, he is also the Giants' most penalized player by far, leading the team with 12 infractions, two more than the 10 he was flagged for last year. Eight of Flowers' 2016 season infractions have been for offensive holding, and eight of his overall 12 penalties this year have contributed to stalled scoring drives.

Giants can say goodbye to Super Bowl if offense doesn't improve. If the defense is hitting its stride, then the offense is still learning how to walk. The offense has lacked consistency, beyond Odell Beckham Jr.'s insane ability to destroy defenses single-handedly.

The acquisition of Brad Wing from the Steelers for a seventh round pick is an overlooked move made by general manager Jerry Reese that is paying dividends for the Giants (9-4) as they continue their march toward a possible playoff berth.

Sterling Shepard is still getting used to plenty of things as a rookie wide receiver, but adjusting to the actual game isn't necessarily one of them. Case in point: A few days after playing a part in the Giants' 10-7 win over the Cowboys, in which he had a key fourth-down reception, Shepard was informed that he'd been fined for wearing all- white socks.

Dec 15 Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is working through options on what -- if anything -- to wear on his dislocated middle finger for Sunday's game against the Giants. For now, the glove of choice appears to be a mostly fingerless one that helps him grip the football.
Forecast for Giants game amps up pressure on Stafford's finger. The forecast of moderate temperatures but rain could play into the grip Stafford gets, or does not get, on the football while wearing a glove.

Victor Cruz is not entertaining the idea that Sunday's game against the Lions - the Giants' home regular season finale - could be his last at MetLife Stadium with the franchise. There will be questions to answer this offseason regarding the remaining two years on his contract.
On Sept. 21, 2014, in the second quarter of a scoreless game against the Texans, Victor Cruz caught a 26-yard scoring pass from Eli Manning. No one would have guessed at the time that it could wind up being his final touchdown ever at MetLife Stadium.

Odell Beckham Jr. once again cannot do all he wants to ensure the dropped passes are a thing of the past. His right thumb continues to be painful and cause Beckham to think about it far more often than he prefers. He would have hit the Jugs machine this week to sharpen his touch, but that will not happen, cognizant of the pounding his hands -- and thumb -- would take.

Ben McAdoo either is in denial or is feigning ignorance over his team's inability to run the ball. In the wake of the Giants' 10-7 win over the Cowboys, the head coach lauded his team's running game for its rushing ... attempts? That's right, McAdoo looked right over the fact that the Giants averaged a pathetic 2.8 yards per carry and was pleased that they simply tried to run the ball a lot.

How much help did the Giants give Ereck Flowers in pass protection? After halftime, Flowers got help from a chip block on three of the Giants' 12 passing plays: Twice from Perkins and once from tight end Will Tye. Flowers was much better in the second half with and without the help.

Giants punter Brad Wing won the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Sunday's 10-7 win over the Cowboys. If you only looked at the box score, you may be surprised that Wing was recognized after averaging a pedestrian 43.2 yards on nine punts. But Wing was a major factor in the field position battle, pinning the Cowboys inside their 20-yard on five punts.

Stadium News
Fans at this weekend's Jets and Giants games will notice something missing from the end zones: color. For the first time in MetLife Stadium's seven-year history, the teams will be aiming to reach -- or defend -- blank end zones, with nothing but nine white, diagonal lines to decorate an area otherwise the same generic green as the rest of the field.

Dec 14 Janoris Jenkins is playing like he has been there, done that -- but in truth, he never has been this way before.
Jenkins said he feels like he's playing the best he's played right now, but also that he's just getting a little more attention because of his team, too.

Odell Beckham Jr.'s signature route has been torturing opponents for years. Call it a slant-and-go or perhaps a slant-and-score, and if you've watched Beckham throughout his three-year pro career or even just against the Cowboys on Sunday, you know exactly what that is.

Eli Manning knows better than anyone this has to be his game plan the rest of the way. Manning had three turnovers in the massive 10-7 win over the Cowboys. It easily could have been five.
The Giants won even though the offense brought nothing to the pot luck party. It was the defense that made it happen, which has been the case in most of the nine wins this season.

Dec 13 Eli Manning is indestructible as far as not missing any snaps or games, but that does not mean he is impervious to the pounding he has taken in 13 NFL seasons. The hits this season have been harder and more frequent, starting all the way back in the summer.
Manning was 17-of-28 passing for 193 yards with a touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 10-7 win over the Cowboys. But he also lost two fumbles, and had at least two more throws that should have been picked off by Dallas defenders.
There are legitimate concerns about whether Manning can snap out of a malaise that has lasted the entire season in which the Giants have been unable to crack 30 points after doing so seven times last season on the way to scoring 420 points.
The Giants scored one touchdown Sunday night thanks to a 61-yard play that accounted for nearly one-quarter of their 260 yards of total offense. They turned the ball over three times. They converted only two of 14 third downs (although they were 2-for-2 on fourth downs), three of their eight three-and-outs lasted less than a minute, and they recorded just 12 first downs. Statistically, it was a flop.

Like the rest of the Giants' offense, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was having a miserable start to Sunday's 10-7 win over the Cowboys. Beckham got open deep but dropped a potential touchdown pass from Eli Manning late in the first quarter. Beckham then dropped a potential first down on a third down midway through the third quarter.

Dwayne Harris could not believe his eyes. He lined up as the gunner in punt coverage and saw someone he did not recognize across the line assigned to block him. And he also knew this was not going to go well for whoever the heck No. 30 was. Twice, Harris pinned the Cowboys deep by downing Brad Wing punts deep inside Dallas territory.

Giants GM Jerry Reese should rightly get some credit for landing right players in offseason. Reese's managerial record still has its glaring holes, of that there is no doubt, but he certainly deserves some plaudits now for clearly identifying and landing the right players during his $200 million free-agent spending splurge in the 2016 offseason.
The Giants' Janoris "Jackrabbit" Jenkins may be the best cover corner in the league. He is certainly having one of the best 2016 seasons of any NFL defensive back. It has to be a pleasant sight for John Mara and Jerry Reese. They are paying Jenkins ($16 million) the second-most in "total cash" for the 2016 season of all NFL corners.

Matthew Stafford will start against the Giants, Lions coach Jim Caldwell told Detroit-area reporters Monday in Allen Park, Mich., after reportedly dislocating a finger and tearing ligaments in his throwing hand in Sunday's win over the Bears. But that's about the extent of what Caldwell said.
Matthew Stafford's middle finger was bent at a 90-degree angle, and the ligaments were torn. But it didn't matter to him. Not even as he dashed through the teeth of the Chicago defense. His injuries were painful, the flight of the ball a measure of that.

Giants (8-4) vs Cowboys (11-1) Game Preview
The Cowboys extended their win streak to 11 with a Thursday night victory over the Vikings. It was a tight game, and the final score was 17-15 in favor of the Cowboys.
The Giants traveled to Pittsburgh and it didn't go well. They were behind for the entire game and their six game win streak ended with a 24-14 loss to the Steelers.
Giants - Steelers Wrap-Up

Dec 11 Running back Shane Vereen was activated off injured reserve Saturday and will make his return Sunday night against the Cowboys. There will not be help arriving for the offensive line, as left guard Justin Pugh is expected to miss his fifth consecutive game.
The Giants will likely ease Vereen back in, and they will still utilize veteran Rashad Jennings and rookie Paul Perkins. But there is a case to be made for using Vereen as their featured back down the stretch.
Vereen's presence could also help on third down which would also affect the number of plays the Giants run per game. Since his exit from the lineup, the Giants have converted 31.6 percent of their third down attempts, down from the 47.1 percent they were converting with him in the lineup.

The Giants are desperately in search of a late-season signature victory that can jump-start a January run just like their three-point loss to the undefeated Patriots in the final game of the 2007 season set the foundation and provided the momentum for their amazing dash to a Super Bowl title.
Odell Beckham Jr. pinpointed the greatest difference between Dallas (11-1) and the Giants on Wednesday: The Cowboys' offense doesn't make its defense do too much heavy lifting. McAdoo's offense is constantly being bailed out by the other side of the ball.

It does not all come down to this, but how the Giants fare Sunday night against the rival, rampaging Cowboys will go a long way in defining the stretch run of this season, and very possibly determine if the Giants get to keep playing after New Year's Day.
No matter what happens at cold and wintry MetLife Stadium, the Giants will head into Week 15 holding onto an NFC wild-card slot. The result of this game will ascertain if that hold is firm or slippery.

Dec 10 When the Giants and Cowboys square off Sunday night at MetLife Stadium in a massive divisional game, the weather in East Rutherford could be nothing short of miserable. But Big Blue coach Ben McAdoo is looking forward to braving the elements.
With a blustery forecast for game time that includes temperatures in the 20s and a good chance of icy rain and snow, the Giants believe they will have an advantage over a team that plays its home games in a billion-dollar bubble and might not be as prepared to face the elements.
McAdoo, who spent eight years as an assistant with Green Bay (where legend says they have experienced some nasty weather days), waved off the notion that rotten weather grounds a passing game and makes for a run-all-game offense.

The NFL has fined Odell Beckham Jr. $12,154 for verbal abuse/excessive profanity toward an official during last Sunday's 24-14 loss to the Steelers. The fine is for on-field actions, according to Pelissero, who said it is unclear if Beckham was fined for his post-game rant about referee Terry McAulay and his crew (or his Stevie Wonder joke earlier this week).

Dec 9 Giants on Cowboys clinching NFC East title: Not in our house!. Not here. Not this week. That's the mindset of the Giants as they prepare to face the Cowboys on Sunday night.
The Giants (8-4) host the Cowboys (11-1) on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in a rematch of the season opener, which the Giants won, 20-19, in Dallas. That was the second-lowest output of the season for the Cowboys, who rank fifth in the NFL in scoring. Can the Giants shut down the Cowboys again?
Cowboys have perfect weapon to exploit huge Giants weakness. Defending tight end Jason Witten is a massive problem facing the Giants in the Sunday night showdown against the Cowboys at MetLife Stadium. And the Giants have been dreadful defending tight ends.

Shortly after Giants fullback Nikita Whitlock recounted to The Record the feelings of disappointment and confusion that have emerged since his home was broken into on Tuesday night and defaced with several racially charged epithets, local police announced they are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
Victor Cruz blasts Donald Trump supporters after racially charged vandalism. When it was mentioned to Cruz that his comments would upset some people, he didn't back down. Cruz, a Paterson native, added that he doesn't associate all Trump supporters with racist viewpoints.

Dec 8 Jason Pierre-Paul's 2016 season is probably over. His NFL career is not. His Giants tenure could be finished, though. Imagine that: Has JPP played his final down for Big Blue?
The Giants hoped rest and rehab would be enough for JPP, but after a visit in Philadelphia on Tuesday with Dr. William Meyers, a noted sports hernia surgeon, a determination was made that surgery was the best option. Meyers performed the surgery in Philadelphia.
Has Jason Pierre-Paul played his last game with Giants? Pierre-Paul and the Giants appear to hope he will be able to return after about six weeks, which could happen if the Giants make a postseason run. But Pierre-Paul's final game with the Giants may have been Sunday's 24-14 debacle.

Left guard Justin Pugh is eyeing a return to action in Sunday's crucial matchup with the Cowboys. Pugh sprained the MCL in his right knee in a 28-23 win over the Eagles on Nov. 6. The injury has sidelined Pugh for the past four games, partly because of a setback in practice on Nov. 23.
Guard Justin Pugh continues to make progress in his return from an MCL knee sprain and running back Shane Vereen, who remains on injured reserve, could be cleared to return to the 53-man roster before the Saturday 4 p.m. deadline to play in the upcoming game.

Dec 7 He was a little more vague and wasn't quite as insulting, but make no mistake about it: Ben McAdoo was whining about the referees Monday just like Odell Beckham Jr. did the night before.
And about that smile Beckham flashed on the Giants' sideline after Steelers receiver Antonio Brown, a close friend of Beckham, caught a touchdown pass? McAdoo was unwilling to criticize him.

Eli Manning admitted Tuesday that the ugly 28-14 loss to the Steelers has forced the Giants to refocus as a team and him to refocus as a quarterback.
Eli Manning is aware of the stakes heading into Sunday's prime-time showdown at MetLife Stadium with the Cowboys, viewed by many as the NFL's best team.

In the short term, the Giants need a left tackle who can keep Manning upright and not commit killer penalties over the final four games as they make a playoff push. Ereck Flowers is going to be the left tackle -- McAdoo made that clear Monday -- because he's their best option.

The Giants managed just seven points on Sunday before a garbage-time touchdown drive in the final minute. They had 234 yards of offense and went 4-for-14 on third and fourth-down conversions. The problem is that the offensive struggles have been the norm this season.
Victor Cruz vowed on Sunday to "talk to somebody" about not being targeted for a pass in the Giants' 24-14 loss to the Steelers. On Tuesday, he did precisely that, talking to the most important somebody of all - coach/playcaller Ben McAdoo.

It almost definitely will be Kerry Wynn moving into Jason Pierre-Paul's starting spot at left defensive end Sunday night when the Giants, after hitting a detour along the road to the playoffs, face the rival and surging Cowboys, owners of the NFL's best record.

Dec 6 The Giants have wasted a healthy season from Victor Cruz. The divorce of Victor Cruz and the Giants unofficially began when GM Jerry Reese drafted Sterling Shepard last spring.
Cruz did not like what he saw on Sunday. He played just 26-of-60 offensive snaps and didn't have a target in a 24-14 loss to the Steelers. Cruz was frustrated by his lack of involvement and the overall struggles of the offense.
Sterling Shepard got an apology when he was not targeted with a pass attempt a week ago against the Browns. Victor Cruz just wants an explanation. That's why the receiver said he plans to speak with coach Ben McAdoo about the way he was used Sunday against the Steelers.

After Antonio Brown hauled in a 22-yard circus catch touchdown over Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins in the first half, the FOX television cameras caught Beckham smiling, and clapping his hands. Many found his reaction odd. But not Beckham.
If you want to engage in any Odell Beckham Jr. bashing for the way he smiled on the sideline in Pittsburgh or for his ripping of the officiating after the Giants' 24-14 loss to the Steelers, take it somewhere else. Ben McAdoo is not having any of it.
McAdoo acknowledged he agreed with Beckham's assessment the officials missed several calls. But rather than rip said calls publicly and call for McAulay and his crew to be banned from calling Giants games, McAdoo vowed to follow established protocol and submit the calls he questions to the league for explanation and review.

Eli Manning was a mess - and this Giants disaster falls on him. Bring on the Cowboys? Yeah, right. Manning threw two interceptions, including the critical mistake from which the Giants could not recover. Victor Cruz shouldn't have bothered making the trip. He was targeted the same number of times as Amani Toomer.
One good play was all it would have taken to erase a forgettable first quarter, one good play to bury the bizarre sequence of events that led to the Giants trailing by a safety and a field goal, one good play to ignite an offense that has yet to hit full speed this season. But Eli Manning, football in hand at the Steelers 9-yard line, made a bad play instead, a short pass to his right intended for Will Tye that was picked off by Lawrence Timmons.

Ben McAdoo gave Ereck Flowers a vote of confidence Monday after a rough performance from the left tackle in Sunday's 24-14 loss to the Steelers. Flowers, a former first-round pick who has had a shaky pro career, is one of several major issues for the team's scuffling offense.
Giants left tackle Ereck Flowers appeared to be making progress for a stretch earlier this season. But the No. 9 pick in the 2015 draft has been on a backslide that hit a low point in Sunday's 24-14 loss to the Steelers.

Opposing tight ends have combined for 67 catches (on 108 targets) for 848 yards and three touchdowns against the Giants in 12 games this season. If those tight ends were rolled into one composite player, that man would lead all NFL tight ends in catches and yards, and be tied for 13th in touchdowns at the position.

There is a great divide within the Giants, but it has yet to split the team in half. Still, how much longer can a resourceful and highly competitive defense watch their counterparts on offense play a losing brand of football?
Sunday's 24-14 loss to the Steelers did little to dissuade Ben McAdoo from his conviction that the Giants will make the playoffs and contend for a Super Bowl in the next two months. That's not to say everything is checking out A-OK. Certainly not on offense, where the Giants are ranked 30th.

Giants (8-3) vs Steelers (6-5) Game Preview
Last week the Pittsburgh Steelers got off to a fast start in Indianapolis. They held a lead throughout the game, and came away with a 28-7 win over the Colts playing without Andrew Luck.
The Giants traveled to Cleveland and also led throughout their game. They were able to extend their win streak to six, which also continued Cleveland's losing streak to a record 0-12, as they lost the game, 27-13.
Giants - Browns Wrap-Up

Dec 4 Odell Beckham Jr, 24, is most famous for a one-handed catch, but his most unique and jaw-dropping trait is how dangerously explosive he is in space. He is as good at turning a few yards of cushion into six points as anyone in the NFL, and if there is anyone as good or better, it is Antonio Brown, 28 - Beckham's occasional offseason workout partner in Florida.

Here we are, 11 games into the season, and the Giants have yet to score 30 points in a game. There has been no breakout, no blowout, no game in which it has all looked easy. Thirty points doesn't sound like a lot to ask for, and yet the Giants haven't reached that modest barometer.

It is expected to be cold, damp and dreary in a stadium notoriously difficult for the road team, and the Steelers can make life miserable for any defense - with Ben Roethlisberger throwing to Antonio Brown or handing it (or throwing it) to Le'Veon Bell. It is the best three-ring circus in the NFL. A key will be if the surging Giants defensive line can become the dominant unit in the game.

Dec 3 Giants face first real test, can prove themselves in game against Steelers. Welcome to the Giants' first true proving ground. On Friday, the Giants did everything they could to downplay the significance of this game, insisting Ben Roethlisberger and Co. are just another team.
The Giants and Cowboys share two common opponents in the final three games of the regular season (Lions, Eagles) and both play another team with a winning record. With wins over the Steelers and Cowboys, the Giants would sit just one game out of first place and hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Dallas.

Odell Beckham Jr. was targeted on six of quarterback Eli Manning's first eight pass attempts in last Sunday's 27-13 win over the Browns. There certainly appeared to be a concerted effort to get the ball to Beckham. Even though Manning missed an open Beckham three times in the first quarter, the Giants continued to feed their superstar.
Where Victor Cruz once excelled as the Giants' slot receiver, it's Sterling Shepard's job now. After missing two straight Decembers, Cruz isn't going to complain. The Giants will carry a six-game winning streak to Pittsburgh. The playoff push feels like it has just begun.

Why is Giants rookie CB Eli Apple playing over Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie? Over the past three games, Apple has played 90.4 percent of the defensive snaps. Rodgers-Cromartie has played 49.2 percent of the defensive snaps over that same stretch.
Janoris Jenkins, the Giants' standout cornerback, expressed a desire Thursday to spend the entirety of Sunday's game against the Steelers going one-on-one with star wide receiver Antonio Brown, arguably the NFL's preeminent pass catcher.

Dec 2 Giants still waiting for offense to have breakout game. There's been no breakout, no blowout, no game in which it has all looked easy. Thirty points doesn't sound like a lot to ask for, and yet the Giants haven't reached that modest barometer.

Landon Collins named NFC Defensive Player of the Month. That's in addition to the back-to-back Player of the Week awards he received earlier in the season. In four November games, all Giants victories, Collins had 30 tackles (23 solo), including a sack, and three interceptions.

Dec 1 Shane Vereen was officially designated to return from injured reserve by the Giants on Wednesday. But while the running back has returned to practice, he does not know just yet where things go from here.
Vereen could return to game action as early as Sunday's contest against the Steelers in Pittsburgh, but the Giants are expected to target the Dec. 11 home game against the Cowboys as Vereen's first game back.

As first-round picks in 2004, Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger and Philip Rivers will forever be linked. They may even one day compare favorably with the generally recognized best quarterback draft class of all-time from 1983: which featured Hall of Famers John Elway, Dan Marino and Jim Kelly.
As the minutes ticked down before the Giants made their first-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, Ben Roethlisberger sat at a table at Radio City Music Hall alongside Terry Hoeppner, his coach at Miami of Ohio. Hoeppner had an inkling the Giants would take Roethlisberger at No. 4 overall.

A box score battle is brewing for Sunday between Odell Beckham Jr. and Antonio Brown. The two top wideouts, who are close off the field, will be playing at Heinz Field in a big game featuring plenty of playoff ramifications.
While Ben McAdoo weighs the pros and cons of using Odell Beckham Jr. at punt returner, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has no reservations about having his star wide receiver return punts.

Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after his dominant performance in Sunday's 27-13 win over the Browns.
The seven-year veteran is the first NFL player with at least three sacks and a fumble-return touchdown of at least 40 yards in the same game since 1982.

Brad Wing was surprised when he got the call in early September last year and was told he'd been traded from the Steelers to the Giants in exchange for a seventh-round pick. There was some disappointment, too, but in the end, the Giants' punter is delighted at how things worked out.

Nov 30 Eli Manning didn't throw any passes to Sterling Shepard on Sunday, but when he ran into the rookie receiver in the team's facility on Tuesday he offered up something else. An apology.
Is the quarterback conscious of a receiver not having a catch during a game? "Not so much," Manning said. "It can't affect your decision-making on reads and stuff."

Peyton Manning, quarterback Eli Manning's big brother, visited with the team Tuesday, and offered up some tips on how to win Sunday in Pittsburgh.
The Giants held a walkthrough practice soon after and Peyton attended, watching from the sideline as they began preparing for Sunday's showdown with Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers.

MetLife Stadium officials will face a daunting task converting from Jets to Giants mode in Week 15, with the Jets hosting the Dolphins at night on Saturday, Dec. 17, and the Giants hosting the Lions at 1 p.m. on Dec. 18. Or not. Might Lions-Giants, which is certain to have playoff implications, be flexed into NBC's "Sunday Night Football" to replace the Steelers-Bengals matchup?

Kate Mara's ex-boyfriend dented the Giants' Super Bowl trophy. The Hollywood starlet, appearing on Tuesday night's episode of "Conan," related the time her former boyfriend fumbled the Lombardi Trophy at her family home and put a boot's worth of damage into the heralded hardware.

Nov 29 The Giants can only play the teams placed in front of them, and they deserve immense credit for capitalizing. But facts are facts: The combined record of the six teams the Giants have defeated during their current run is 20-45-1. The Giants' last three opponents, the Bengals, Bears and Browns, are a combined 5-28-1.
The Giants understand a steep upgrade is awaiting them in Pittsburgh and they hope what happened in Cleveland stays in Cleveland. Their last five games are against teams with a combined record of 34-19-1. All five - the Steelers, Cowboys, Lions, Eagles and Redskins - are in playoff contention.

This year already feels much different from recent seasons, when the Giants were playing out the schedule, either virtually or mathematically eliminated from contention. Their win on Sunday over the Browns, while far from convincing, secured for them their first non-losing season since 2012. Now they have to finish it off.

Ben McAdoo won't say if Odell Beckham Jr. will be Giants punt returner this Sunday vs. Steelers. Ben McAdoo's best reason for potentially keeping Odell Beckham Jr. as his punt returner Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers is that Beckham catches the ball in the first place.
Exactly how much should they be using their best player - and, after Sunday's demonstration, undoubtedly their best punt returner - in the sometimes dangerous job of fielding and running back punts?

Ben McAdoo is not Tom Coughlin. He's not always five minutes early, even if he kept the clocks that way when he took the head coaching reins in January, and he is not cranky after his Giants (8-3) delivered a stinker for most of Sunday's 27-13 win over the winless Browns, as Coughlin no doubt would have been.
Giants must fix stunningly predictable offense for stretch run. Play-calling and game-planning stand out as obvious reasons for the offensive struggles. The Giants have become exceedingly predictable, using the same personnel grouping on a staggering percentage of their plays.

Ben McAdoo said it was "unfortunate" rookie receiver Sterling Shepard was not targeted one time against the Browns. Shepard was held without a catch for the first time this season. He was targeted 11 times last week against the Bears and caught 5 passes for 50 yards and a touchdown.

Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple are established as the Giants' top two cornerbacks. Jenkins has started every game this season, while Apple has started the past five games. After that duo, the cornerback rotation changes weekly.

Giants (7-3) vs Browns (0-11) Game Preview
Last week the Cleveland Browns were down 14-0 at halftime. The Browns managed to score 9 points in the second half, but with the Steelers adding 10 more, they ended up with a 24-9 loss.
The Giants were down 16-9 at halftime to the Chicago Bears. Their defense clamped down and held the Bears scoreless for the second half. Meanwhile the Giants added 13 points to secure a 22-16 win.

Nov 27 A Giants loss against the dismal Browns would be catastrophic. The Giants haven't made the playoffs since 2011. So what? The Browns haven't been to the postseason since 2002. They have won more than five games in a single season only once in the past nine campaigns, including this thus-far winless campaign.
Giants worried about a humiliation that'll happen to someone. The Browns are 0-11 but most likely will not finish 0-16, considering going winless in a 16-game schedule only has happened once in NFL history, the 2008 Lions.

Last Monday marked the 12th anniversary of Eli Manning's first NFL start, a further reminder of just how fortunate the Giants have been that Manning has started each and every game since then - 204 in all, including playoffs.Since Manning made that first start against the Falcons on Nov. 21, 2004, at Giants Stadium, the Browns have had 22 different starting quarterbacks.

Nov 26 The last time Terrelle Pryor faced the Giants was in 2013 when he completed 11 of 16 passes for 122 yards and ran for a touchdown as the starting quarterback of the Raiders. This game will be vastly different. Pryor, a record-setting passer at Ohio State whose NFL career as a quarterback never quite panned out, is now the top wide receiver for the Browns.

Odell Beckham was targeted a season-low seven times in Sunday's win over the Bears, and on Friday, Giants offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan defended the team's use of the explosive wide receiver. Sullivan said even when Beckham isn't putting up his typically gaudy numbers, he's making an impact.

It was bad enough that defensive end Olivier Vernon was assessed a dubious penalty in last Sunday's 22-16 win over the Bears. The NFL added insult to injury by hitting Vernon with an $18,231 fine, according to a source. The fine amount is the minimum for a roughing the passer penalty.

Jason Pierre-Paul listed as questionable, but Giants DE says he'll 'be out there' against Browns. Pierre-Paul pledged earlier this month that while injuries might affect his practice time, they would not keep him out of games.

Justin Pugh, Brett Jones and Marshall Newhouse were declared out Friday. Adam Gettis, who saw a little action after Jones hurt a calf filling in for Pugh against Cincinnati Nov. 14 and after Newhouse sprained a knee filling in against Chicago last Sunday, is questionable due to calf soreness. But Gettis said, "I'm fine. I'm ready to go."

Nov 25 After playing the Browns on Sunday, the Giants' final five games are all against playoff contenders, including the Lions at home, and Eagles and Redskins on the road. They can wrap things up in a hurry, or they can lose ground in a hurry.

Victories by two first-place teams in the NFC on Thursday helped give the Giants some breathing room in their quest to earn their first playoff spot since 2011. Losses by Minnesota and Washington, the two teams that currently trail the Giants in the wild card standings, created some separation.

How unlikely is it that Will Tye has become the starting tight end for a 7-3 Giants team that is looking to make its first playoff run since 2011? Oh, about as unlikely as Tye making it onto the roster in the first place.

Rashad Jennings caught the third-and-12 pass for a gain of 10 yards in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Bears and started trotting to the sideline when he looked up and saw something he was not expecting. Coaches and players were waving him back toward the field.

NFC East News
Cowboys prove they are team to beat in NFC, which means Giants are in trouble.

Nov 24 Ben McAdoo will bring his players in for practice on Thanksgiving, but he'll bring them in earlier than usual and get them out quicker to spend time with family. The coach said he will "get the chance to spend some time with the family, I guess, in the afternoon."
He's called "Snacks" for a reason. Thanksgiving at the Harrison household sounds like a feast not to be missed. Harrison said fellow defensive linemen Jason Pierre-Paul, Olivier Vernon and Jonathan Hankins will be there as well.

Odell Beckham Jr. isn't satisfied - even during Giant win. Ben McAdoo said Wednesday that he couldn't identify the source of Odell Beckham Jr.'s latest sideline eruption in Sunday's 22-16 win over the Chicago Bears.
Odell Beckham Jr. has no desire to be standing on the sidelines late in the fourth quarter Sunday in Cleveland wracked with anxiety watching the Giants' defense close the show and save the day. "It's about time for us to put one away," Beckham said.

Landon Collins came into this season with a goal of being the Defensive Player of the Year. Now even that audacious objective is starting to seem almost trite. No defensive player has won it for 30 years.

After missing two games because of a knee injury, left guard Justin Pugh returned to practice on Wednesday at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. He was able to move around and will be evaluated as the week progresses.

Nov 23 Manning and the Giants go into Sunday's game in Cleveland at 7-3 with a five-game winning streak and under tremendous pressure to avoid the humiliation of being the first team to lose to the Browns, who are 0-11.
The Browns will literally be the worst team the Giants have faced in their nearly 92 full seasons of existence. Never before has Big Blue squared off against a squad that has gone so long into a season without a win.

When Giants backup quarterback Ryan Nassib started watching the cutups of the Browns defense on Monday night as part of his preparations this week, it took him longer than usual. That's because of a familiar face playing for Cleveland. Nassib's younger brother, Carl, is a rookie defensive end for the team.

Eli Manning will be like millions of other Americans on Thursday: At some point in the afternoon he'll eat a big meal and then sit back to watch Dallas play Washington. "I'll definitely check it out," he said of the matchup between two of his NFC East rivals.
If Washington were to win the game and the Giants were to win their next two games - at Cleveland and at Pittsburgh - then Big Blue would play Dallas at home on Sunday Night Football in Week 14 for the division lead. That, obviously, is the situation the Giants are hoping for.

The Giants fell into their old, predictable habits in Sunday's 22-16 win over the Bears. After showing some creativity in two wins after their bye week, the Giants went back to basics in an offensive struggle against the lowly Bears.

From the moment they first shared a table for breakfast inside the cafeteria at the Giants' facility this spring, Sterling Shepard made sure his bond with Eli Manning would be a strong one.

Nov 22 Special Report - Once upon a time, a guy who was the head coach of the Giants (no, not Ben McAdoo; and no, not Tom Coughlin) explained that every action in a game is the result of several incidents. In other words, an interception is not the quarterback's fault entirely, nor is a fumble the direct result of the ball carrier.
A quarterback might be expecting a receiver to turn to his right and he turned to his left. A running back might have the ball jolted from his arms by a helmet worn by a defender who appeared "out of nowhere." An offensive lineman might miss a pass-rushing defender and get the quarterback sacked, but someone else should have been there to pick him up.

Ben McAdoo isn't pleased with everything the Giants have put forth during their five-game winning streak, or even in Sunday's win over the Bears. Some might say the same about McAdoo's play-calling and decision-making in the fourth quarter on Sunday as well, but the head coach defended his thinking in both cases.

Ben McAdoo has had plenty of success early in his coaching tenure and has his team poised to make the postseason. Just don't tell him that. "We haven't accomplished anything yet," McAdoo said.
He's right, of course. The Giants still are in second place in the NFC East, still have to face all three division opponents and still have to play four of their final six games on the road.

The Giants are in playoff contention and Eli Manning wants his teammates to soak it in. While Ben McAdoo stressed Monday that the Giants haven't reached their goals, Manning knows that his team is in an enviable position sitting at 7-3.
The Giants had third-and-4 at their own 27-yard line early in the third quarter of Sunday's 22-16 win over the Bears when quarterback Eli Manning scrambled for a first down.

Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz doesn't get as many passes thrown his way as he did before missing most of the 2014-15 seasons with injuries. But Cruz still has managed to make a major impact in his limited role this season.
Victor Cruz was among the Giants' receiving leaders on Sunday, one of four players with at least 40 yards against the Bears. Unlike the others, though, he tallied his 48 yards with one catch. Welcome to Cruz's new reality.

The last time the Giants had played three straight games at home and won them all was in 1962, when they played at Yankee Stadium. Not only were they able to match that feat this year with victories over the Eagles, Bengals and Bears in the past three weeks, but they now have a chance to do something that hasn't happened since they moved into MetLife Stadium in 2010.

Giants rookie running back Paul Perkins had been cutting into the workload of Rashad Jennings entering Sunday's game against the Bears. But Jennings reclaimed his standing as the Giants' lead back in the 22-16 win.

The Browns just can't take it anymore. It took eleven straight losses, but the Cleveland Browns' undisguised tank job and string of broken and bloodied quarterbacks finally has caused the team's star players - what few of them remain - to crack.
Josh McCown will be the Browns' starting pinata quarterback for Sunday's game against the Giants in Cleveland, head coach Hue Jackson announced on Monday.

Giants (6-3) vs Bears (2-7) Game Preview
The Chicago Bears came off their bye week to play in a road game against Tampa Bay. The Bears were behind from the start after an interception was returned for a touchdown. A Hail Mary pass at the end of the half had them trailing by just seven, but they failed to score again, and they lost the game 36-10.
The Giants beat the Bengals, 21-20, at MetLife Stadium on Monday Night Football. The game started out with touchdown drives by each team, but then turned into a defensive dual. The Giants win was their fourth straight to give them six wins to match their win totals in the past two seasons
Giants - Bengals Wrap-Up

Nov 20 The Giants reinforced their banged-up offensive line before Sunday's game against the Bears by promoting center/guard Shane McDermott from their practice squad. McDermott, who was an All-ACC player at Miami, spent most of the preseason with the Giants. He also had stints on the practice squad earlier this year and late in the 2015 season.

The Bears' offense is your run-of-the-mill power hitter. They're batting .222 this season, but they will hit the ball over the fence if you let them. That's the trap the Giants must be very wary of falling into Sunday when the two teams meet at MetLife Stadium. Because big plays have been an Achilles heel for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's resurgent unit all year.

Tom Collins was window-shopping in Biloxi, Mississippi, back in 2001 with his 7-year-old son Landon, when they stopped to gaze at a display of beautiful Rolex watches. "Dad, get that one," Landon Collins said, excitedly. "That one's nice." "Dad can't afford that," Tom Collins said with a smile. Landon turned to face his father, and what he said next, his father couldn't believe:Ben

Nov 19 Ben McAdoo wants Eli Manning to play aggressively. Eli Manning has thrown six interceptions in the past four games, two of them against the Bengals on Monday night. Ben McAdoo"s advice for him, though, is not quite what you"d expect. "I don"t want him to be careful," McAdoo said.
In his first season as head coach of the Giants, Ben McAdoo has proven to be unafraid of playing young players. Big Blue is the only team in the NFL with three rookie receivers who have caught touchdown passes (Sterling Shepard, Roger Lewis Jr. and Jerell Adams).

After 11 seasons as the most successful kicker in Bears history, Robbie Gould was asked to leave, unceremoniously replaced by journeyman Connor Barth on the eve of the regular season. On Sunday at MetLife Stadium, it is possible Gould"s performance could send his floundering former team back to Chicago with a 2-8 record.
Gould was signed by the Giants when Josh Brown was placed on the commissioner"s exempt list and eventually released last month. In three games he has attempted just one field goal, a 29-yarder he made against the Rams, and is 9-for-9 on extra points. He has adjusted well to his new city and new locker room, too.

Nov 18 The Giants haven't had a Pro Bowl safety since Antrel Rolle in 2013. But Rolle said he believes they have another one now in breakout star Landon Collins.
From one safety to another, Deon Grant loves what he sees from Landon Collins, the Giants' second-year defender who is having a breakout season with four interceptions. Grant, who frequently visits with his former team and speaks regularly to Collins, said he is impressed by the second-year safety's grasp of the defense.

Jason Pierre-Paul and Victor Cruz, who were Super Bowl XLVI champions and teammates in their second NFL seasons of 2011, suddenly feel like the old guys on the Giants, where rookies like receiver Sterling Shepard don't even get their pop culture references.

Jason Pierre-Paul isn't jumping on Odell Beckham Jr.'s Super Bowl bandwagon just yet. Big Blue hasn't made the playoffs once since winning the Super Bowl in February 2012, Pierre-Paul said his excitable teammate was getting ahead of himself with that kind of talk.

When it comes to determining whether Jason Pierre-Paul has been a major factor for the Giants' defense, he passes the eye test. The 27-year-old defensive end has just 1 ½ sacks this season, but he is nevertheless disrupting offenses and drawing plenty of attention from opposing coaches.

Nov 17 Nobody is a bigger fan of the Bears this week than Ben McAdoo. He's a die-hard. And like all rabid supporters of specific teams, he'll take issue with anyone who disagrees with him. He has to in order to convince his real team - the Giants - not to overlook the Bears.
Listening to Giants coach Ben McAdoo speak on Wednesday, you would have thought the '85 Bears were coming to MetLife Stadium on Sunday. As the Giants prepare to host the 2016 Bears and their 2-7 record, McAdoo isn't just guarding against a letdown. He's expressing genuine concern about a team that is 0-5 and has been outscored by 71 points on the road.

Apparently, no one told Pernell McPhee his team is 2-7. While the Giants spent Wednesday trying in vain to spin that the Bears are a decent opponent, the Chicago linebacker went right ahead and provided some bulletin board material for Big Blue.
Chicago, which is 2-7, qualifies as a crappy team. Jay Cutler usually holds a competition to see whether his sacks outnumber his interceptions. And the last time Bears coach John Fox came into MetLife Stadium, his Broncos lost 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII to the Seahawks.

Next up on the Giants' schedule: complacency. That's always the next opponent for winning teams. The Giants may not know that, because so few of them have ever been part of a successful NFL season. Only six players were even around the last time the Giants (6-3) were three games over .500. Just 10 of them have ever won more than six games in a season with the Giants.

Eli Manning can't keep going from scoring drives of 6-for-6 passing for 59 yards and a touchdown, as he started Monday night's 21-20 win over the Bengals, to an ill-advised interception into triple coverage to his team's fifth receiver with the game on the line in the fourth quarter.

The Giants have Eli Apple, and through some ups and down - heck, he was benched for poor play against the Eagles - the rookie is now a starting cornerback, coming off a nice comeback performance in the victory over the Bengals.

Roger Lewis Jr., the undrafted rookie who had a terrible game on Monday night against the Bengals with a dropped pass, a poor route, and a slip on the end of an interception. And it seems that McAdoo is intent on proving once again that he does not have the proverbial doghouse that many coaches around the league keep for their error-prone youngsters..

Nov 16 The Giants' route to the Super Bowl is coming into focus. Bully the Bad News Bears and the Bad News Browns these next two weeks to send a message to the rampaging Cowboys that you will see them again Dec. 11 in front of an apoplectic fan base starving for a playoff team.

The Eli Manning play you didn't see that saved the Giants. There is no number or stat, though, to illustrate what Manning did in the closing minutes of the 21-20 victory over the Bengals to clinch the game for the Giants. Manning was all set to call the play as sent in from McAdoo, but alertly noticed a shift in the Cincinnati defense.

Even if Giants didn't score, Ben McAdoo was right to go for it on 4th-and-goal, and the math backs him up. Plenty of statistical analysis on fourth down decisions shows that coaches ought to be more aggressive in their choices.
Monday night's call to go for the winning touchdown on fourth-and-goal at the 3 certainly helped cement that idea. But McAdoo didn't simply roll the dice in that situation. He said on Tuesday that he had reasons for his decision.

Steve Spagnuolo's 2016 unit might be one of the best defenses in the NFL. It is certainly the most improved, and possibly on its way to becoming the class of the league by the time February rolls around. On Monday, they bailed out Manning after both of his interceptions.
Let's not mistake this year's Giants defense with the '85 Bears, the '86 Giants, the 2000 Ravens, or even the 2007 Giants. It's simply too soon to elevate this group with any of those great defenses, or put them on a level with Pete Carroll's Seahawks, who are as good as it gets on that side of the ball in today's NFL.

Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie had his lowest snap total of the season in Monday's 21-20 win over the Bengals. Rodgers-Cromartie logged just 14 defensive snaps on Monday, playing exclusively in four-cornerback dime packages.
Cornerback Janoris Jenkins spent much of Monday's 21-20 win over the Bengals matched up against A.J. Green. Green finished with seven catches for 68 yards and a touchdown on Monday night. But Green had just four catches on seven targets for 23 yards when covered by Jenkins.

Giants (5-3) vs Bengals (3-4-1) Game Preview
The Bengals are coming off a bye week. The previous game before that the Bengals played the Washington Redskins in London, and ended up going into overtime to finish with a 27-27 tie.
The Giants got off to a fast start on Sunday against the Eagles. Two interceptions turned into Giants touchdowns, and they managed to keep the lead throughout the game to finish with a 28-23 win.
Giants - Eagles Wrap-Up

Nov 14 The Giants probably don't want cornerback Leon Hall covering A.J. Green tonight, but when it came to preparing for the NFL's leader in receptions entering Week 10 (59), it was Hall to whom they turned. Hall played with the Bengals for eight seasons, the last four as a teammate of Green's covering him in practices and watching his tendencies. So what has Hall been able to share? Mostly bad news.

The NFC is up in the air. The conference's top team, the Dallas Cowboys, has been impressive but is not unbeatable. The Giants know - they beat the 'Boys in Week 1. The door is open for someone in the NFC to slip into the playoffs, get hot and challenge - and possibly beat - the AFC representative, very likely the mighty Patriots. Stop me if this scenario sounds familiar. What, Giants fans, too soon?

The Giants enter Monday night's game against the Bengals, their ninth game of the season, with no fullback and little blocking from their tight ends, their best offensive lineman on the shelf for a few weeks and a murky running back situation -- with all eight of their remaining games outdoors, in the Northeast and Midwest. Some have cracked open the Big Blue Book of Bedtime Stories and noted the 2011 Super Bowl team finished that season dead last in rushing offense.

Nov 13 Does anyone really think the Giants are very good? Raise your hand if you believe the Giants' 5-3 start is a precursor to their first playoff appearance since the 2011 season, when they won their last Super Bowl. The math - and common sense - says the Giants should be 8-3 by the end of Thanksgiving weekend.
It's all about math and numbers. The Giants are 5-3, and have won three straight. Beat the Bengals, and the Giants would become favored to move to 8-3 over the next two weeks, with a home game against the Bears and a road trip to face the Browns.

Brett Jones held up fine in his first extended NFL playing time, the Giants won 28-23 and, with Pugh sidelined for about a month, Jones is about to receive his first front-line action. And his first NFL start will be a doozy: a MNF test against the Bengals and a tough customer in Geno Atkins.
The top offensive lineman in the Canadian Football League first walked into the Giants' locker room last spring to embark on an NFL career. Let's just say his teammates were less than impressed. It's hard to look unimposing at 6-2 and 312 pounds, but Jones pulls it off.

Former Giants
Emotional time for Giants' Ring of Honor inductees. Tom Coughlin, Justin Tuck, Ernie Accorsi to be honored on Monday Inductees thankful for family, teammates, mentors.

Nov 12 Ben McAdoo decided that size matters after watching the Giants' offensive line struggle to run-block for the first seven games. McAdoo inserted offensive lineman Marshall Newhouse as an extra blocker in Sunday's 28-23 win over the Eagles.

The Giants coaching staff reviewed the first seven games during the team's bye and decided to make some playing time changes. Donnell saw the most drastic role reduction in Sunday's 28-23 win over the Eagles. After starting all six games he appeared in before the bye, Donnell didn't play an offensive snap against Philadelphia.

Victor Cruz chalked up his reduced snaps last Sunday to coach Ben McAdoo "taking care of me a little bit." Cruz said McAdoo told him before the Giants' win over the Eagles that the Giants would be "moving some guys around and just making sure that everybody's fresh and using all of our tools."

Janoris Jenkins said he shadowed A.J. Green last season while still in St. Louis. Green had six catches for 61 yards and two touchdowns in Cincinnati's 31-7 win over the Rams. Jenkins said one of the touchdowns was his fault in a blown coverage, the other not on him.
Jenkins also knows that he's well capable of getting the best of the ever-dangerous Green. He's matched up on Green before, and his most vivid memories of taking on the Bengals star involve him dominating the matchup.

The Giants know they are going to need a team effort to stop Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert. Some, or perhaps most, of the responsibility will fall to linebacker Keenan Robinson, who will be tasked with covering the 6-6, 250-pound behemoth while the Giants also try to deal with wide receiver A.J. Green and a two-headed running game featuring Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard."

Janoris Jenkins wants to cover Bengals' A.J. Green The Giants cornerback figures to be locked in on Bengals star receiver A.J. Green in the prime-time game, renewing a rivalry that goes back to when they were just hearing about each other in high school.

Rookie RB Paul Perkins is trying to make a name for himself. The fifth-round rookie out of UCLA is offering the first hints that he may at least be a part of the solution to one of the Giants' most vexing problems.

Roger Lewis has made the most of limited opportunities in his rookie season. Two of the Giants wide receiver's catches have gone for touchdowns, including a 30-yarder in Sunday's 28-23 win over the Eagles.

If anyone knows what rookie cornerback Eli Apple is going through right now, it's Landon Collins. With Apple coming off one of his worst games - he was benched in the third quarter of last Sunday's 28-23 win over the Eagles - it's second-year safety Collins that has firsthand experience with rookie struggles.

Leon Hall: 'It would suck' to be inactive vs. Bengals. Hall decided to sign with the Giants a week into training camp rather than returning to Cincinnati in a reduced role. A 2007 first-round draft pick, Hall spent his first nine seasons with the Bengals.

Justin Pugh is expected to miss 2-4 weeks with a sprained MCL in his right knee. But the good news for Pugh and the Giants is that the fourth-year player didn't suffer any further damage.
