Giants lose their third preseason game 15-14.
Kerry Collins was 13-for-23 for 198 yards and 1 touchdown.
Ike Hilliard had 7 catches for 150 yards including one long 88 yard TD run.
Ike Hilliard also had 1 rushing attempt for 11 yards.
Dorsey Levens rushed 10 times for 34 yards.
Tiki Barber rushed 10 times for 31 yards and had 2 catches for 6 yards.
Rookie TE Visanthe Shiancoe caught a pass in the end zone to give the Giants their 7-0 lead.
Game Notes:
" I guess this preseason game proves the value of signing a player like Hilliard, and of having a quality backup quarterback on hand. I hated to see Chad Pennington get hurt. He has a
lot of talent and you want to see someone like that on the field playing the game.
It looked like the Giants were going to actually win this one, but I guess if I have to wait until opening day of the regular season to see them win a game first hand, I can live with that."
Game Notes:
The Giants broke training camp on Friday and took to the field Saturday as if the real season was on. Both the offense and defense
looked great in the first half, making few mistakes, and they left the field leading the Jets with the score 14-3.
Once again Kerry Collins was real sharp. I like the way he had the offense moving. The Giants had two long drives of 95, and 96 yards. That first one took 9:58 off the clock and lasted for 21
plays.
Ike Hilliard and Tiki Barber stole the show for as long as they played. Dorsey Levens looked solid filling in for Tiki Barber, and Ron Dayne barely got into the game with one carry for 2 yards.
On defense Micheal Barrow and Brandon Short kept the Jets under wraps.
On special teams, coach Fassel still has to decide between keeping Matt Bryant and Mike Hollis, since he said he has roster room for only one. Maybe Fassel now has the excuse he's been looking
for to get rid of Matt Bryant after that tough 47 yard field goal attempt. I wonder if Hollis would have made it?

Notes:
Kerry Collins is 30-for-52 for 381 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions
this preseason.
Five starters did not play last night for the Giants:
DE Kenny Holmes (knee), LS Ryan Kuehl (elbow), TE Jeremy Shockey (rib), DE Michael Strahan (toe) and SS Shaun Williams (shoulder).
Ryan Kuehl, the regular snapper, was in uniform but not supposed to snap because of tendonitis in his right elbow. LB Nick Greisen went out in the fourth quarter
with a strained hamstring and C Chris Bober left with a rib injury so Kuehl had to snap in the fourth quarter.
Giants backup quarterback Jessie Palmer completed 8 of 12 passes for 47 yards, but was intercepted in the forth quarter, and the ball was returned 19 yards
to the 2-yard line.
Jets running back Chad Brinker scored the deciding touchdown on the next play, with 7:38 remaining.
Last week, after the 20-10 loss to Carolina, Jim Fassel said that if Palmer's play did not improve, he might promote Jason Garrett to the second string behind
starter Kerry Collins
After this game, Jim Fassel said that Jessie Palmer and Jason Garrett would both get big workloads in the preseason finale Thursday at Baltimore.
Each team had bad news
- Giants guard David Diehl learned that his father Jerry passed away of an apparent heart attack in his sleep Friday night. The family's wishes were that he not be told until after the game,
so the team honored their wishes.
- Jets quarterback Chad Pennington, suffered a fracture-dislocation of the left (non-throwing) wrist when he was tackled from behind by Brandon Short after throwing away a pass with 1:47 left
in the first half. Pennington was immediately transported to Lenox Hill Hospital for surgery, and could be out for most of the season.
Chad Pennington, who finished the night 4-of-12 for 58 yards, was only 1 minute and 47 seconds away from escaping the game unscathed and injury-free. He was
likely only going to play a single series in Thursday night's preseason finale in Philadelphia.
Jets coach Herman Edwards said that Vinny Testaverde would be his starting quarterback in the season opener. Normally starters don't play very much in the
final preseason game, and the Jets other backup quarterback, rookie Brooks Bollinger, has a sprained left knee.
Former Jet Ray Lucas, who played with Miami last season is looking for work.
Lucas was 6-3 as a starter for the Jets in 1999, stepping in for Rick Mirer, who had replaced an injured Vinny Testaverde (Achilles' tendon).
Jets and Giants will face each other again on Nov 2 at Giants Stadium.
