Giants lose the first preseason game 26-6.
Kerry Collins was 6-of-10 for 56 yards and 1 interception.
Jesse Palmer completed 9-of-12 passes for 93 yards.
Mike Hollis kicked a 29-yard field goal.
Matt Bryant connected from 34 yards.
Giants committed 5 turnovers and gave up 6 sacks.
Game Notes:
"OK, so that was a major disappointment to say the least. They looked like they were sleepwalking on the field. They couldn't get the run going, and said that Tiki had the flu. I guess
the Giants have a lot of rust to shake off. At least it was good to see Keith Hamilton out there playing, and the special teams did a nice job. Tim Carter had a nice return. Maybe our guys
are picking up some tips playing around Brian Mitchell. It can't hurt.
I thought the announcers did a good of making the game as interesting as it could be. I'll be looking forward to seeing my Giants playing next week, and in the meantime I'll catch the Eagles
on the Monday night game against the Saints."
Game Notes:
"The first-stringers played only the first quarter, but I don't think it would have mattered if they went the whole game.
Obviously they were way off the mark last night. The weaknesses shown through in this game. That's what you want to see in preseason, and hopefully it won't last into the first real game of
the season.
The offense was weak. Sean Payton drew most of the blame for the Giants poor start last year, but everyone forgets that the Giants were breaking in some new players on the offensive line then
too, and it took a few games to work itself out.
It doesn't help either that the Giants no longer have blocking tight end Dave Campbell on offense. Letting him get away could be the biggest mistake the Giants made in the offseason."
