Giants (0-3) vs Tampa Bay (1-1) Game Preview
The Buccaneers played their game last Sunday in Minnesota. They fell behind 28-3 in the third quarter and that's all the points the Vikings really needed. There was some scoring, but Tampa lost the game 34-17.
The Giants were down 14-0, but came back strong in the fourth quarter. Then with the game looking to go into overtime, a 61 yard field goal gave the Eagles a 27-24 win with the clock running out.

Oct 1 Giants vet gives Eli Apple advice on avoiding brutal penalties. Eli Apple insists he is not getting picked on. "You show me a corner who doesn't get targeted, and I'll make sure to tell you you're probably a liar," Apple said.

Former Giants
Tiki Barber excited to call Giants-Buccaneers in booth with twin brother Rondes.

Sept 30 Giants face a must-win in Tampa Sunday. Unless a team faces the possibility of being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, players and coaches will almost never label a game a must-win situation. Especially a game that's played on Oct. 1.

While there was much fanfare at the start of the season over the additions of Brandon Marshall and Evan Engram, it was Sterling Shepard who reminded everyone just what kind of a threat he is after taking a slant route 77 yards for a touchdown which gave the Giants a temporary lead.

Ben McAdoo's future comes down to the other stuff. The Odell Beckham Jr. situation is a perfect example of that. for the better part of five days, most of the inquiries McAdoo fielded about Beckham were related, one way or another, to Beckham's having imitated a urinating dog on a football field.

NFL News
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell hosted a roundtable discussion Tuesday night at the NFL headquarters that was attended by a small group of NFL players and team owners to discuss the wave of protests during the National Anthem last week.

Sept 29 There have been many puzzling aspects of the Giants' stunning 0-3 start. Among them: The use, or lack thereof, of tight end Rhett Ellison. The Giants gave the blocking specialist a four-year, $18 million deal to shore up their run game.
With Orleans Darkwa (back) and Shane Vereen (calf) missing their second straight practice, the Giants could turn to rookie running back Wayne Gallman on Sunday against the Buccaneers.

The following question was posed to Steve Spagnuolo: What would you have said before the season if someone told you after three games, your defense would be ranked dead-last in the league against the run?
Part of the reason it has been happening is because the Giants have not done a very good job tackling. LeGarrette Blount consistently escaped tackle after tackle on Sunday, a growing problem that seems to have gotten worse as the season has progressed.

Sept 28 Ben McAdoo's newest responsibility: 'A plan' to end Giants' celebration penalties. The head coach/offensive play caller is now adding touchdown celebration monitoring to his day-to-day responsibilities with the 0-3 Giants after they've been burned twice this year with post-score penalties.

Justin Pugh backs Giants teammates after he 'didn't understand' message of Colin Kaepernick's protests. Giants guard Justin Pugh said the team is not going to let outside forces "tear us apart."
Justin Pugh was angry. When Colin Kaepernick first sat, then started taking a knee, during the national anthem last season, he was one of the players who expressed disdain on social media and in interviews. With a brother serving in the military, Pugh thought it was a disgrace for a player to show such a lack of respect.

What in the world was Giants' John Jerry thinking on his costly penalty vs. Eagles? Guard John Jerry is as flabbergasted as everyone else about his penalty late in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Eagles.

Ben McAdoo needs to bench Odell Beckham Jr. for Sunday's first quarter in Tampa Bay and not just hint that he'll do it the next time Beckham pretends to urinate like a dog, as McAdoo did Wednesday when he said "we have a plan for it if it does" happen again.
If Giants owner can't get through to Odell Beckham, will anyone? If it doesn't sink in, Odell Beckham Jr. should understand that he will jeopardize being a Giant for life. Don't blow it, kid.
This time, Odell Beckham Jr. . . . uhhh . . . ticked off the wrong guy. By pretending to be a dog urinating in the end zone while celebrating a touchdown during Sunday's 27-24 loss, Beckham incurred the wrath of the man who ultimately may decide if the talented yet tempestuous receiver will receive his just rewards with a new contract.

Sept 27 Special Report - If you're on the fence, or over it and on the dark side about the Giants and their 2017 prospects, you're not alone. The Giants lost by just three points on Sunday in Philadelphia, scoring 24 points in their best output since they scored 27 points in a win over Cleveland on Nov. 27, 2016.
With seconds to go, the Giants held a lead, the first time this year, and the defense held, seemingly just enough, following a terribly shanked punt by Brad Wing that sailed just 28 yards to the sidelines.

Sept 26 Eli Manning did not get sacked at all on Sunday, just one week after being sacked five times by the Lions. He didn't have time to be taken down. The Giants quarterbacks average time from snap to throw on Sunday was 1.86 seconds, the fastest in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.

Ben McAdoo takes responsibility for putting Giants 'in a bad spot'. My bad. That was Ben McAdoo's take on a fateful call he made that kept the Giants off the scoreboard in their 27-24 loss to the Eagles.
Giants coach Ben McAdoo's talk about being a "heavy-handed" team is empty words. Fullback Shane Smith wasn't on the field for that fourth-and-goal play - or any others. Smith didn't play a single offensive snap on Sunday and he has logged just 12 snaps in the first three games.

Giants third-year safety Landon Collins can no longer fly under the radar. In fact, Collins is finding a target on his back after he finished third in the NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting last season.

John Mara and Steve Tisch better give it a lot of thought before they p--- away $100 million on Odell Beckham Jr. After Beckham's disgraceful walking and peeing-like-a-dog, end-zone act Sunday in Philly, exactly what will he do next?

Giants (0-2) vs Eagles (1-1) Game Preview
Last week the Eagles faced their old head coach Andy Reid when they traveled to Kansas City. They put up a good fight, but in the end lost to the Chiefs 27-20.
The Giants lost their Monday night home opener to the Detroit Lions 24-10. For the second week in a row, their offense has struggled to put points up on the board.
Giants - Lions Wrap-Up

Sept 24 The Giants could not make it out of September before facing a game to determine their season. It got late awful early, mainly because of their awful offense, and here they are, in their house of horrors, needing to win, or else.

It's been an eventful week, as the 0-2 Giants are gearing up for what is being billed as a must-win game at the Eagles on Sunday. With kickoff about 24 hours away, here are some observations.

It's just Week 3 but the Giants will reveal a lot about themselves Sunday afternoon in Philly, where they have lost three in a row. This is not necessarily the best place for the Giants to figure out what has gone wrong the first two weeks.

Suddenly, and almost inexplicably, the Giants' shocking 0-2 start has turned into a referendum on Ben McAdoo. It's a shocking turn of events for a coach who last year did a commendable job in leading the Giants to the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

Sept 23 Jason Pierre-Paul is not mincing words on how important this week's game against the Eagles is, calling for the team to be Super prepared for Sunday. "Honestly, it's a must-win game," he said.

Janoris Jenkins is in danger of missing his second straight game, with an ankle injury, and will be a game-time decision against the Eagles.

Ben McAdoo suddenly is clarifying that he deserves blame for that fourth-and-goal delay of game in Monday's loss to the Lions, too, not just Eli Manning.

If the Giants' offense continues to struggle, there is sure to be more discussion about whether head coach Ben McAdoo should give up the play-calling duties. Jim Fassel has been there and done that.

Former Giants
Phil Simms and his new football world.

Sept 22 Odell Beckham Jr. has saved a Giants' season before. The 0-2 Giants need a savior Sunday in Philadelphia, and Beckham said Thursday he believes he's up to the task again.

Earlier this week, coach Ben McAdoo said he would "look at and talk about" relinquishing play-calling duties, but offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan doesn't believe a switch would greatly impact the Giants' offense.

Eli Apple said playing without Janoris Jenkins doesn't change his job description all that much. He still needs to defend passes and make tackles. What it does do, though, is change what others expect from him. For that he is ready.

Linebacker Keenan Robinson, who was a fixture in the Giants' sub packages last year, has yet to appear in a game, preseason or otherwise. That could change this Sunday because he has been cleared from the concussion protocol and practiced fully on Thursday.

Sept 21 Which Giants are suffering because of Ereck Flowers? The Giants are apparently not addressing their left tackle issue. But they certainly have one.
Eli Manning has been sacked eight times in the first two games, and his offensive line is under fire, especially left tackle Ereck Flowers.

Will John Mara or Jerry Reese be part of Ben McAdoo's Giants play call decision? Ben McAdoo will make the call on Ben McAdoo.
McAdoo said he's still deciding if he'll give Sullivan a shot. "We'll see," the head coach. "We'll do anything we can do to help us move the ball."

Sept 20 Two weeks ago, it seemed as if the Giants were primed for big things in 2017. They were the trendy pick to win the NFC East and considered, along with the Cowboys, one of the top two teams in their division.

Eli Manning is doing fine under the bus. The Giants quarterback shrugged Ben McAdoo's harsh postgame words a day after the head coach ripped him for a crucial delay of game penalty in the Giants' 24-10 loss to the Lions.

The Giants did not play their Week 2 game until Monday night, which gave them a chance to catch other teams in action on Sunday. One of those teams was the Eagles, who lost to the Chiefs in a close matchup. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie came away impressed.

Giants (0-1) vs Lions (1-0) Game Preview
Last week the Lions treated their opening day fans to a comeback victory over the Cardinals. Down 10-0 at the start, the Lions, trailing by 2 going into the fourth quarter, scored three touchdowns for a 35-23 win.
The Giants couldn't get their act together and managed to score just 3 points in their season opener. The final score was a disappointing 19-3 loss to the Cowboys.

Sept 18 There will be one noteworthy absence from the halftime celebration for Monday night's matchup against the Lions at MetLife Stadium. Plaxico Burress's height was always an advantage when he was playing football. On Friday night, as he stood in a Manhattan ballroom, it once again came in handy.

Sept 17 As far as Jason Pierre-Paul is concerned, he isn't too concerned. The Giants are one game - albeit one clunker - into the season, and a chance to redeem themselves awaits Monday night against the Lions at MetLife Stadium.

The Giants' need to bounce back against the Lions on Monday night. Here's what's going to need to happen for the Giants to get on track against the Lions.

Blaming the Giants' offensive line is warranted, because it struggled. But Eli Manning sometimes needs to rise above that and find a way to make a play, and he knows it.

Sept 16 The Giants' defense stifled the Lions in a 17-6 win last season at MetLife Stadium. The Lions should have more firepower for Monday night's rematch, as they are healthier and added a big-play threat in the draft.

Odell Beckham Jr. is making progress - slow but steady progress. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the star wide receiver will make his regular season debut Monday night against the Lions.

Dwayne Harris roared downfield on Sunday night to pull down Cowboys kick returner Ryan Switzer at the Dallas 17-yard line, a standout individual effort during a game in which the Giants had few.

If the Giants' offense continues to falter, Ben McAdoo should consider giving up play-calling duties. Ben McAdoo's offense has transitioned into Ben McAcan't's offense.

Orleans Darwka has a message for the many critics of the beaten-down Giants offensive line: Direct your disdain elsewhere. The anemic 35-yard rushing attack in Sunday night's loss to the Cowboys wasn't just on the group up front. The running backs should hear some criticism, too.

Former Giants
Will Tye was on the roster of a supposed Super Bowl contender, entering his third year with the Giants. Now, he is part of a supposed tank job, having joined the Jets after being released by the only team he'd ever known.
Tom Coughlin talks 2007 Giants Super Bowl run at his charity event. Tom Coughlin had to admit it Friday night: winning an NFL game as an executive vice president feels different than getting the 'W' as a head coach.

Sept 15 The Odell Beckham Jr. watch continues. The Giants wide receiver's every move has been observed and analyzed since he sprained his ankle in a preseason game on Aug. 21.
The bottom line is this: Beckham's injury appears just as serious as it initially looked when Browns safety Briean Boddy-Calhoun undercut the Giants' star receiver on Aug. 21 in Cleveland.
Beckham was listed as "limited," on Thursday, and coach Ben McAdoo said he was "more [optimistic] than last week," he'll be active against the Lions. That is obviously a sign of progress.

Justin Pugh began his career with the Giants as a right tackle. He may be heading back there as one possible solution if Bobby Hart is unable to play Monday night because of a sprained ankle.

Sept 14 Giants' Aldrick Rosas meets 1st child hours after NFL debut (with private jet assist from Steve Tisch). The Giants' first-year kicker accounted for the team's only points in his debut.

Eli Manning isn't counting on Odell Beckham Jr. being healthy with receiver still questionable for Week 2. Beckham is expected to meet the media on Thursday, when he may have to explain a report that he was allegedly part of a "dance battle" last week.

One of Ben McAdoo's go-to terms is "complementary football," which means "all three phases playing together." The Giants' offense did the opposite late in the first half of Sunday's ugly 19-3 loss to the Cowboys. In fact, it pretty much kicked the defense in the gut.

Eli Manning and what was supposed to be the high-powered Giants offense wasn't just bad in the season opener, they were Big Blue historically bad.
Manning's prescription for what ails the Giants' offense? "We just have to execute," he said. "Just convert on some third downs, get into a rhythm early, so that'll be the key.".
After Sunday's loss to the Cowboys it appears as if the Giants' biggest weakness from last season is still the main concern after Week 1 and that is not lost on some members of the offensive line.
Right tackle Bobby Hart said that he plans to play in Monday night's game against the Lions. But his pronounced limp and the heavy wrap on his right ankle on Wednesday suggested otherwise.

Sept 13 Sometimes being 0-1 is just a speed bump. Sometimes it is the first step into an abyss, as it was when the Giants started 0-6 in 2013. Eli Manning has seen 0-1 go in many different directions.
The Giants will return to work Wednesday to begin preparations for a critical Monday Night Football home opener against a strong Lions club that is coming off a big Week 1 win over the Cardinals.

The way the offensive line malfunctioned in the season opener was an alarming sight for the Giants but hardly a stunning turn of events for their fans. Last year's five-man starting unit is this year's five-man starting unit.
A look back at the last solid offensive line this team had (2007-2010) shows a group the coaching staff and front office tried to squeeze every last bit of juice from. It wasn't meant to be.

It did not take long for Giants fans to become disillusioned with Brandon Marshall. "Has @BMarshall been found? I was really worried last night! #AmberAlert," one fan wrote on Twitter. Marshall retweeted and replied, "People are so mean... . Oouchhh." Mean, but accurate.

Sept 12 The Giants need a better Marshall plan. They had one of the top receivers in the NFL over the past decade on the field with them Sunday night in Dallas and treated him like an interloper at a cocktail party.

It's dangerous to make sweeping judgments about the course of a season after just a game. Or even just a month. But it isn't too soon to suggest that Ben McAdoo must prove to his players, his coaches and, just as importantly, the paying customers that he has better answers than the ones he offered Sunday night at AT&T Stadium.

Giants linebacker B.J. Goodson played 13 defensive snaps last season as a rookie. Making his first career start, Goodson was over the field - and rarely came off of it. The 2016 fourth-round pick played 73-of-74 defensive snaps and finished with 18 tackles (14 solo).

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant says Giants CB Janoris Jenkins 'got lucky'. Bryant declined to specify the breaks Jenkins caught. "He just caught breaks," Bryant responded. "You just got to go watch the film."

The Giants closed out last season with an 11-5 record, followed by a wildcard playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers.
The Dallas Cowboys would face Green Bay the following week in the divisional game and saw what they would be up against, but in the end the score was 34-31 in favor of the Packers.

Sept 10 Most rookies look forward to their first regular-season game. Tight end Evan Engram will be relishing his first regular-season pregame. The first-round draft pick said this week that he is excited not so much about playing against the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium Sunday night but being on the sideline for the national anthem.

Giants.com - Instant Analysis: Cowboys 19, Giants 3.

This is Eli Manning's best shot for 3rd Super Bowl championship. Jerry Reese has built this team to win now, which is the only thing he could do with a 36-year-old quarterback.
Only two other quarterbacks in NFL history have started 200 games in a row, and Eli Manning grew up in the same house as one of them.

Odell Beckham Jr.'s health is the biggest storyline heading into Sunday night's showdown with the Dallas Cowboys. But whether Beckham (questionable, left ankle sprain) plays or not, the Giants' defense is the primary reason this could be a special season for Ben McAdoo's team.

The New York Football Giants sat glued to their seats as the rivalry with the Cowboys, which has spanned generations, played out on the screen in front of them. "We showed the history of the Giants and the Cowboys rivalry," Giants coach Ben McAdoo told The Post.

How the Cowboys constructed one of the best offensive lines ever. The strategy was far from traditional. It was extremely rare. Few teams have replicated the model. But it has worked out as well as anyone in Dallas could have scripted it. Three times in a four-year span the Cowboys used their first-round pick on an offensive lineman.

Sept 9 Less than 48 hours before the Giants open their season against the Cowboys, Odell Beckham Jr.'s status remains uncertain. The star receiver officially was listed as questionable on the Giants' injury report Friday, meaning Beckham is being given a 50 percent chance to play.
While many Giants players wait to see whether Odell Beckham Jr. will play on Sunday against the Cowboys, Roger Lewis Jr. may be the one most affected by the decision. The second-year receiver likely will start against the Cowboys if Beckham's ankle injury prevents him from playing.

Giants right tackle Bobby Hart is overflowing with confidence as he enters his third season. "I know I'm the best right tackle in the league," Hart told NJ Advance Media.

Jason Pierre-Paul is the second Giant to say he wants to win Defensive Player of the Year, with safety Landon Collins telling the Daily News in August that it was a goal of his, too. It speaks to the high expectations the Giants defense has for itself.

Dez Bryant took a page out of the Mark McGwire playbook. The usually chatty Cowboys wide receiver wasn't going to talk about the past Friday - not about the Giants' two victories last year, and certainly not about his struggles against cornerback Janoris "Jackrabbit" Jenkins.

NFC East News
Move over, Cowboys: Imagining a Giants-Eagles battle for NFC East.

Sept 8 Could Odell Beckham Jr. be used as a decoy? The Giants may have to determine if a functional but impaired Beckham is better than the alternative of having him sit out the opener.
Odell Beckham Jr. did not practice again on Thursday and his outlook for Sunday's game against the Cowboys looks pretty bleak. Even if he does play, he won't be at 100%, but that hasn't stopped the Giants from putting a star receiver out there before.

Aldrick Rosas does not want this to begin quietly. After becoming the first kicker without NFL experience to make the Giants' roster in 15 years, Rosas will go into AT&T Stadium for Sunday night's season opener against the Cowboys, and he is hoping the outcome comes down to a field-goal attempt.

What's it like being an OC who doesn't call plays? Giants offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan makes most of his contributions to the team's play-calling operation before game day.

Justin Pugh helps Jersey City cops nab thief who stole packages from Giants O-lineman's front door. Pugh really did flex his muscles as an investigator the past few weeks.

Former Giants
Josh Brown new 6-game ban amidst Ezekiel Elliott debacle, report says.

Sept 7 Odell Beckham warms up, but it's not all good news. Given he is not moving at full speed, it is likely Beckham will not participate in practice on Thursday.
Odell Beckham will dominate the injury discussion over the next few days, but the Cowboys and Giants are rather healthy as they close in on Sunday's season opener.

Giants season preview: Offensive turnaround key to division title. Ben McAdoo's oft-stated goal to "put the fifth trophy in the case" might gain some momentum if a few loose ends get tied up, particularly on the offensive line.

The New Jersey judge overseeing the lawsuit that accuses Giants quarterback Eli Manning of memorabilia fraud has been asked to step aside - for the second time during this case.

NFC East News
NFL preview 2017: NFC East outlook.

NFL News
With Hurricane Irma barreling down on south Florida, currently a category 5 storm, the NFL has opted to postpone Sunday's 1 p.m. kickoff between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium. The league has instead opted to move the showdown between two Florida teams to Week 11 when both the Dolphins and Buccaneers share a bye week.

Sept 6 Ezekiel Elliott is suspended six games. But he'll be playing against the Giants on Sunday night.
And now a federal judge in Texas will determine whether Elliott must begin serving his sentence in Week 2 or if the NFL's form of justice deserves more scrutiny in court.
No one should be surprised if Elliott follows Brady's legal blueprint and gets his suspension delayed until after the 2017 season.

Sept 5 Odell Beckham Jr. is back on the sideline, but the Giants' star receiver isn't ready to return to the field yet. Beckham rode a stationary bike during Monday's practice.

Eli Manning is no Ryan Fitzpatrick, at least according to Brandon Marshall. As the Giants' new wide receiver continues to develop a rapport with his quarterback, he would not quite call Manning the best he's ever had. Marshall has just one target from Manning in a game this preseason - an incomplete pass.
Having been traded three times in his career, Marshall finally chose where he wanted to be this offseason, and signed with a team talented enough to erase his dubious distinction, as the player with the league's longest active run of games played without reaching the postseason (167 games).

The Cowboys may have Ezekiel Elliott in their backfield on Sunday night against the Giants. Or they may not. Either way, the Giants aren't waiting with baited breath to find out if Elliott will score a short-term victory over his suspension and be eligible for the season opener. They don't seem to care much, either.

Sept 4 The Giants announced several players signed to the practice squad on Sunday with multiple reports that undrafted rookie Travis Rudolph will be on it as well.
The Giants signed eight players to their initial 2017 practice squad, all of whom participated in the preseason finale last week in New England. NFL teams are allowed to have a maximum of 10.

Giants' most surprising roster add can diversify their offense. Of all the offensive weaponry the Giants possess, no one is going to study tape of Shane Smith and determine he is the player the defense has to stop.

When the 53 members of the team gather for the first time Monday, one of their orders of business will be to elect captains for the 2017 season. The offensive captain is a no-brainer. Unless the Giants have decided to institute some type of term limit, Eli Manning will wear a "C" on his jersey for the 11th straight season. The defensive captain?

The Giants will return to practice Monday for their first session of the 2017 regular season. The preseason is over, the initial 53-man roster is set and the time has come to prepare in full for the season opener against the Cowboys on Sunday.

Sept 3 Giants keep first-year kicker Aldrick Rosas, release Mike Nugent. The Giants have not had a first-year kicker since rookie Matt Bryant in 2002.

The Giants whittled their roster from 90 to 53 on Saturday. Giants 53-man roster: Big Blue cuts TE Will Tye, place LB Mark Herzlich on injured reserve to get to NFL limit.

Mark Herzlich just couldn't get healthy in time. The Giants placed the veteran linebacker and special teams contributor on season-ending injured reserve Saturday as part of their roster cuts to conclude the preseason and set their initial 53-man roster.

How long can Eli Manning play? NFL analysts weigh in. Manning came out of a four-season playoff drought last year with an 11-5 record and a wild-card berth, and now has a team widely regarded as a Super Bowl contender. The complicating factor is that he is 36, so the Giants' window to win a third Super Bowl with him presumably is closing.

Sept 2 Special Report - From the time Thursday night's game ended in Foxboro, the Giants' coaching staff has thought about nothing but two numbers - 90 and 53. The roster is at 90, and by Saturday afternoon it must be at 53.
So much for a long, leisurely weekend, and with the changes that will take place AFTER 4 p.m. Saturday, it's not going to be much of a Labor Day weekend, either.
In his telephone press conference Friday afternoon, head coach Ben McAdoo remained relatively silent when asked specific questions concerning players, as in who will stay and who will go.

Sept 1 Giants 40, Patriots 38.
With 21 of 22 starters getting the night off, the Giants' backup quarterbacks put on a show in the preseason finale, but it was kicker Aldrick Rosas who made a 48-yard field goal as time expired to give the Giants a 40-38 victory over the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots at Gillette Stadium.

Giants players had one last audition for a roster spot in the preseason finale against the Patriots on Thursday night. Some players made the most of the opportunity, while others sealed their fate before Saturday's roster cut-down.
Will Tye, the tight end from Stony Brook University who is fighting for a roster spot, committed what may be a mortal sin in his quest to make the Giants.

Kicker Aldrick Rosas nailed four field goal attempts, including the game-winning 48-yarder as time expired to give the Giants a 40-38 win over the New England Patriots. Rosas, who has been in a kicking competition with veteran Mike Nugent, likely wrapped up the job with his performance.

Geno Smith deserves to be Eli Manning's backup in 2017 after a blistering performance in Thursday night's Giants preseason finale against the Patriots.
Playing alongside and against backups, the former Jets starter more than likely locked down the job. He went 4-for-4 on a first-quarter drive that culminated in a touchdown pass to tight end Matt LaCosse.

Aug 31 Eli Manning's offensive line has taken most of the heat this preseason, but Boomer Esiason believes the quarterback is the Giant with something to prove this fall.

The Giants are required to cut to 53 players by 4 p.m. on Saturday. They then may establish a 10-player practice squad any time after Sunday at 1 p.m. 10 things to watch as Giants approach preseason finale with Patriots.

After starting 17 games and catching 90 passes over his first two seasons, Tight end Will Tye never expected to find himself in this position - on the Big Blue roster bubble, possibly the odd man out.

Mark Herzlich in danger of not making Giants' 53-man roster. The Giants have four players on the roster from the 2011 Super Bowl-winning team, but they are getting perilously close to being down to three.

The kicking competition between Mike Nugent and Aldrick Rosas is coming down to the wire. For two people who met each other less than a month ago, Mike Nugent and Aldrick Rosas couldn't be closer, personally and professionally.

Aug 30 The Giants have at least one star wide receiver back at practice. Brandon Marshall appeared to be a full participant during Tuesday's session, the final of the preseason.
Brandon Marshall is about to go into the Giants' Week 1 opener in Dallas without having caught a single pass from Eli Manning this entire preseason. Unsettling, isn't it?
Though head coach Ben McAdoo, perhaps facetiously, expressed hope that injured receiver Odell Beckham Jr. could play on Thursday, that doesn't appear likely.

The Giants had a Mini Mac Attack after practice on Tuesday. Peter Costigan, the 12-year-old from outside Philadelphia who caught the focus of TV cameras last season when he dressed up as Giants head coach Ben McAdoo for the game in Washington visited the team and got to spend some time with the inspiration for his look.

Aug 29 As the Giants wrap up their stretch of three games in 11 days, the team on Monday returned to the practice fields at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center.
Brandon Marshall was back on the field Monday, and Ben McAdoo said he is "hopeful" that Odell Beckham Jr. won't be too far behind.

There is a reason the Giants shouldn't feel despondent if Odell Beckham Jr. misses their regular season opener in Dallas, and that reason's name is Evan Engram.

Owa Odighizuwa's strange year took another wrong turn on Monday. Big Blue's third-year defensive end, who missed all of the Giants' Organized Team Activities in addition to minicamp, was suspended four games for violating the league's policy on using performance-enhancing substances.

Protest watch? NBC planning to televise national anthem before NFL season opener.

Aug 28 Ben McAdoo is clearly upset about losing a player to a serious injury on a play that did not count and should never have been run late in Saturday night's 32-31 preseason victory over the Jets.

Ben McAdoo said he has not chosen the Giants' placekicker or backup quarterback, the two position decisions that have received the most scrutiny in the preseason.
Will Geno Smith or Josh Johnson be Giants' No. 2 QB? Ben McAdoo hoping for answer Thursday. Neither has been good enough to establish himself as the favorite through the first three games.

The Giants have brought Damon Harrison, Brandon Marshall and Geno Smith over to the winning side of New York NFL football. What would it hurt to pick up the phone and call Darrelle Revis and make it one more ex-Jet playing for Big Blue?

Aug 26 It's time for the Snoopy Bowl, which means the Jets and Giants are getting close to regular season action. Giants head coach Ben McAdoo gave his starters a pretty long look against the Browns on Monday and will do so again against the Jets.
This is the 49th consecutive preseason that the Giants and Jets will meet since the series began in 1969. The Giants won last year's MetLife Bowl, 21-20, thanks to a late touchdown by Tavarres King.

This game, which traditionally falls as the third one on both team's schedules, is the final preseason dress rehearsal, the game in which coaches get a chance to really envision what the first cut of the 53-man roster will look like.
Giants offensive line running out of chances to prove it can do job. Keeping the offensive line together turned into a priority for general manager Jerry Reese after he scanned the free-agent market, studied the 2017 draft class and did not like what he saw. Is it too late to make changes?

Second-year receiver Sterling Shepard is the veteran for Giants vs. Jets. Because of injuries to Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall and Dwayne Harris, second-year receiver Sterling Shepard is the most experienced healthy receiver the Giants have on their roster.
Odell Beckham Jr. is going high-tech to treat his ankle sprain. Or maybe not. According to NFL.com and Sirius XM analyst Gil Brandt, that treatment regimen will include a series of Phoenix Thera-Lase treatments, the brand name for laser treatments on the ankle that are designed to reduce inflammation and help heal soft-tissue injuries.

Aug 25 The Giants had their final practice on Thursday during an abbreviated week of preparation for Saturday's preseason game against the Jets.
Two days before the all-important third preseason game, also known as the NFL's dress rehearsal, the Giants' top three receivers for much of practice were Sterling Shepard, Roger Lewis and Travis Rudolph.

Odell Beckham (sprained left ankle) and Brandon Marshall (left shoulder) aren't expected to play Saturday night against the Jets, but Ben McAdoo continued his injury update charade on Thursday anyway.
The Giants will almost certainly be without Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall for Saturday's preseason game against the Jets, a handicap that will alter the efficiency and expectations of the offense.

Geno Smith, once considered the quarterback savior for the Jets, is trying to land the job as the backup with the Giants. And he could be making a case for that job against his old team Saturday night.

Former Giants
Mark Bavaro, who played tight end for the Giants from 1985-90, gives his take on rookie Evan Engram. "He's definitely the most athletic tight end I've seen on the Giants since (Jeremy) Shockey. And I think he's more athletic than Shockey."

Aug 24 Ben McAdoo juggled his offensive line as promised at Wednesday's practice, most notably giving backup center Brett Jones a look as the first-string right guard in place of John Jerry.
Jones, a former Canadian Football League star, said he will play center, guard, whatever. He just wants to be out there. Although he did say it was "fun" going against Damon "Snacks" Harrison, which raised some eyebrows.

The Giants are the only team in the NFL that has not scored a touchdown in any way, shape or form this preseason. "We're not happy about it," Ben McAdoo said on Wednesday. The Giants had similar struggles last summer.
The Giants were back on the practice field on Wednesday after Monday's loss to the Browns in their second preseason game. It will be a quick turnaround, as the Giants are set to face the Jets in the third preseason game on Saturday at 7 p.m. at MetLife Stadium.
The Giants practiced without four receivers who have a combined 1,303 career receptions. Odell Beckham, Jr. (ankle), Brandon Marshall (shoulder), Dwayne Harris (upper body) and Tavarres King (ankle) missed the workout.

Aug 23 Ben McAdoo seemed pleased by Eli Manning's preseason debut on Monday night. The rest of the offense, though, was far from that standard of "fairly good."
The Giants offense doesn't appear to be any better than last season through two preseason games, and now Ben McAdoo is leaving the door open for possible changes on the offensive line.
Assigning blame for Giants' awful running game: Not all Perkins. The Giants were 29th in the NFL last year with an anemic 3.5 yards per carry. They actually have been worse so far this preseason, gaining just 138 yards over the first two games.

The Giants did not have much go right Monday night in their 10-6 preseason loss at the Browns. Here's a closer look at how the Giants' Class of 2017 played against Cleveland, starting with first-round pick Evan Engram and going all the way down to the undrafted free agents fighting for a roster spot.
Sloppy play. Inconsistent offensive production. Disappointing results. The Giants' preseason has been marred by all three, but all of that paled in comparison to an injury to star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. that overshadowed everything else.

Any fears in the moments after absorbing their respective hits Monday night that Odell Beckham Jr. or Brandon Marshall may have suffered a season-ending injury apparently have been quelled.
Odell Beckham could miss the Giants' season opener in Dallas with an ankle injury sustained during Monday night's preseason game against Cleveland, sources tell ESPN.

Aug 22 Instant Analysis: Browns 10, Giants 6.
Giants close to hitting panic button on anemic offense. Eli Manning and the starters were on the field for five series and scored three points.
Ben McAdoo said after three more Giants turnovers in another touchdown-less offensive performance that he takes his team's "disregard for the ball" personally.
The starters with Manning will have one more chance to get it together. They'll play most of Saturday's game against the Jets, and Manning likely will sit out the fourth preseason game.
Giants breathe a sigh of relief as Odell Beckham Jr. sprains his ankle but avoids disastrous injury. The Giants did say Beckham "will undergo further examination," presumably an MRI to also check his knee.
Giants safety Landon Collins made it clear during the game that he took exception to the low hit on teammate Odell Beckham Jr. by Browns safety Briean Boddy-Calhoun.

Aug 21 The Giants left for Cleveland on Sunday as they gear up for the Browns in their second preseason game, and this time all the starters are expected to play. It's the first time the Giants will have their full starting units on both offense and defense on the field together for a game after resting several veteran starters in the preseason opener against the Steelers on Aug. 11.

Ereck Flowers is determined not to be the Giants' weak link. It is clearly time for Flowers to reward the Giants for making him the ninth pick of the 2015 draft and sticking with him through his well-documented travails.

Special Teams standout Dwayne Harris aims for expanded role. Harris is arguably the league's most complete special teams player. Last year, he led the Giants in kickoff and punt returns for the second straight season, and finished fifth in the NFL with a 24.2-yard average on 22 kickoff returns.

When it comes to the defensive tackle position, the New York Giants seem to have a tradition in place where a young draft pick, usually chosen anywhere between Rounds 2 through 4, ultimately steps in as a starter when the guy in front of him-also usually a draft pick-departs.

Giants safety Andrew Adams' storybook rookie season didn't have a fairytale ending. The undrafted free agent from UConn went from the practice squad to starting 13 games at free safety for one of the NFL's best defenses last season.

Aug 20 If you want to see the Giants' stars play against the Browns on Monday Night Football, though, you better tune in at the start.
Head coach Ben McAdoo said on Saturday that the plan is to have Eli Manning play into the second quarter in the team's second preseason game.
Eli Manning will be sporting a new look: A glove on his left hand. He has worn it in training camp and plans on keeping it on for the game.

Look out, Cleveland. Landon Collins is coming to town. And just because it's the second preseason game, don't expect the All-Pro safety to be on cruise control Monday night against the Browns. For Collins, there is no such thing.

Jay Bromley put everything he could muster into last season, but deep down, at the end of a long and trying campaign, he knew it was not nearly enough.

Michael Bowie, an offensive lineman with virtually no chance to make the final roster, will not travel with the Giants to Cleveland for Monday night's preseason game after being charged with domestic assault and battery and two counts of malicious injury to property.

Aug 19 Memo to Geno Smith and Josh Johnson: play better on Monday night in Cleveland. That was Ben McAdoo's message at the very least Thursday afternoon when the coach said rookie quarterback Davis Webb is not out of consideration for the No. 2 job backing up Eli Manning.
He is the Giants' first legitimate heir apparent to Eli Manning, but that doesn't mean Davis Webb is a young man in a hurry, whether he truly has a chance to overtake Geno Smith and Josh Johnson for the No. 2 job or not.

Justin Pugh is entering his fifth season with the Giants. That may not sound like a long time, but consider the changes that have taken place during his tenure. There's a new head coach, he's playing a different position than he was when he started at right tackle as a rookie, and virtually everyone who was in the locker room to greet him in those first days with the team is gone.
All of the weapons the Giants have on offense won't mean anything if the offensive line isn't able to open holes in the running game and protect the quarterback. Offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan conceded that undeniable fact and said he's confident the line will do its part this season.

Aug 18 Special Report - While the Giants toil through summer workouts - training camp wraps up this week - there is still plenty of work to be done, especially along the offensive line, in the running game and at backup quarterback, among other key pressure points on the depth chart.
Because the Giants feel that they have more than a good chance to win the NFC East division and possibly go deep into the post-season (further?), there are 16 games in their way, six of which are against division rivals. Why don't we take a look at what the NFC East opponents have been up to so far this summer?

Aug 17 Brandon Marshall already knew Odell Beckham Jr., but Giants training camp - which broke Tuesday after three weeks - was the first time the veteran wide receiver and the superstar spent significant on- and off-field time with each other.

Banged-up Giants linebackers give two rookies chance to impress in practice. The banged-up crew is certainly a concern for what is probably the Giants' weak link in their highly touted defense, but it has opened the door for other guys to make the team, most notably Calvin Munson and Curtis Grant.

Cracking the Giants secondary as an opposing offense is a tough challenge. Even more difficult? Cracking them as a newcomer to the group. Valentino Blake has been able to do that.

Aug 16 Heading into an 11-day span that includes three more preseason games, the team held practice No. 14 on Tuesday at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center.
The New York Giants wrapped their annual summer training camp Tuesday afternoon, but head coach Ben McAdoo knows the team still has a lot of work to do before their September 10 regular season opener.

A ticked-off Ben McAdoo made Geno Smith and Wayne Gallman run a lap around the field at Tuesday's practice after two fumbles on two consecutive Smith snaps at quarterback.
Geno Smith and Wayne Gallman did not run a lap around the practice field as punishment for botching a handoff and fumbling the ball in Tuesday's practice. Rather it was for catharsis.

Players get a much-needed day off on Wednesday. They'll return for four days of preparation for Monday's second preseason game against the Browns.
They got through this stage in remarkably good health. They assuaged some fears, yet failed to alleviate more than a few nagging concerns.

Aug 15 The New York Giants held their final open practice of training camp on Monday, so a certain three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver decided to leave the fans with the best highlight of this summer and really any summer.
Odell Beckham Jr. has made a pair of incredible catches in the past two practices. Videos of the catches on the Giants' Twitter account have combined for more than 50,000 likes as of Monday afternoon. Coach Ben McAdoo is not among that crowd. "I like two hands on the ball better than one," McAdoo said.

Odell Beckham Jr. is so confident he can win a Super Bowl with the Giants that on Monday, he said the team needs to make room for banner No. 5. It is yet another lofty goal set by the fourth-year receiver.
He is the 13th Wonder of the World at Giants training camp, his one-handed catches accomplished with the greatest of ease, his dancing made for "Dancing with the Stars." But on that one hand, he is desperate for one ring.

Giants coach Ben McAdoo declared Paul Perkins the team's starting running back in May. The last few days have raised some questions, though. McAdoo went out of his way to criticize Perkins only getting seven yards on a run to open the Giants' first offensive series in last Friday's preseason-opening loss to the Steelers.
Orleans Darkwa has done his part to put pressure on Perkins. Darkwa carried over a strong start to training camp with an impressive performance in limited action in the preseason opener against the Steelers on Friday.

Aug 14 Giants coach Ben McAdoo calls QB Eli Manning 'a little bit rusty'. Giants coach Ben McAdoo knew he had a supplied a headline. And even as he tried to put the toothpaste back in the tube, McAdoo knew it was too late.

Following Friday night's preseason opener, the New York Giants resumed training camp on Sunday at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center.

Sterling Shepard practiced in full on Sunday for the first time since spraining his left ankle in a non-contract drill on Aug. 2, finally putting Ben McAdoo's full, first-team offense back on the field.

Ben McAdoo already getting restless about the mistakes on offense. McAdoo wants to see his offense - the one he calls plays for on game days - produce, clean up and step up. And it's good that he's speaking up about it earlier.

Aug 13 After months of speculation, we finally got to see the Giants in action in their preseason opener on Friday against the Steelers. The game revealed revealed where players stand on the depth chart and laid a foundation for who is on the outside looking in.

Evaluating the Giants' defense in the preseason loss to Steelers. Ben McAdoo's first-string defense dominated on Friday, with two three-and-outs and two interceptions by Valentino Blake and Devin Taylor.

Aug 12 Steelers 20, Giants 12
The Giants got a good look at their kickers on Friday night, but settling for field goals didn't cut it as they fell 20-12 to the Steelers in the preseason opener.
The Giants offense had many of the same issues that bogged it down last year. On third downs, they were five of 17, (29 percent). They went 0 for 2 in the red zone and in goal-to-go efficiency. And they averaged just 3.2 yards per carry on the ground, with starter Paul Perkins gaining just three yards on five carries.

Geno Smith takes early lead in backup battle despite ugly pick. The word Justin Pugh used to describe going out there without Eli Manning was "strange." Scary might be another apt description.
Giants rookie TE Evan Engram has good first experience. Evan Engram moves around a lot in the Giants' offense, but the rookie tight end came away from Friday's preseason opener with a sense of stability.

Giants' first-string defense picks up where it left off. Landon Collins set an early tone against the Steelers. Possibly, too, it will set the tone for the season.

Landon Collins said he was flying to the ball to start the Giants' preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers Friday night because he is "coming out of the gate blazing" in the 2017 NFL season.
The Giants first-team defense, with the exception of defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, got the start in Friday's preseason opener against the Steelers.

Aug 11 The numbers that back up Eli Manning's 'best' start with Ben McAdoo. Ben McAdoo had some interesting praise for Eli Manning the other day.

Although the preseason can't be over fast enough, there are still some intriguing questions as the Giants take the field for the first time in what could be a Super Bowl season,

How Evan Engram's mom scared him into going for greatness. It took exactly one question, about her son's professional football debut Friday night,

Giants give up on draft pick who just keeps getting hurt. Sometimes it just is not meant to be. Such was the case for Mykkele Thompson's stay with the Giants, which ended Thursday, one day before the preseason opener.

Aug 10 Ben McAdoo isn't one to show his cards, but the Giants coach offered a telling clue on Wednesday about his plan for quarterback Eli Manning in Friday night's preseason opener against the Steelers.

In their final full practice before Friday night's preseason opener, the New York Giants were back on the field Wednesday at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. Here is a recap of the day.

NFL News
Colin Kaepernick gets the attention. Jay Cutler gets the job. And Robert Griffin III gets to work out furiously, apparently, preparing for a job that hasn't begun to formulate.

Aug 9 The legend of Matt LaCosse grows every spring. The Giants tight end has demonstrated a knack for standing out during Organized Team Activities (OTAs) and minicamp when players are wearing shorts and t-shirts.
The Giants' first preseason game
is this Friday against the Steelers, which means it's time for guys on the roster bubble to show what they've got. One of those guys is tight end Matt LaCosse.

Select Giants season ticket-holders enjoyed a special treat on Monday afternoon when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Giants President/CEO/co-owner John Mara, and Super Bowl Champions Amani Toomer and Shaun O'Hara gathered for a season ticket holder town hall.

Brandon Marshall's ex-teammates with the Jets may not have anything nice to say about him, but the Giants seem to be getting along with their new addition.

Aug 8 There isn't an Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield and the Giants don't have the Cowboys' offensive line. That won't stop the men in the Big Blue running backs room from believing they can run enough to see a Lombardi Trophy in the distance.

Ereck Flowers on Saturday uttered maybe the most significant words the Giants left tackle has spoken since the team drafted him ninth overall in 2015. He did something unexpected: Flowers criticized himself.

Aug 7 The Giants look like a team with Super Bowl potential on paper. Sunday's release of their star-studded first unofficial depth chart of 2017 confirmed that, ahead of Friday night's preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers at MetLife Stadium.

Eight practices into camp, the Giants are pretty darn good. The defense should be exceptional. With nine starters returning and locked in, the only starting battles or positions to wonder about were at middle linebacker, free safety and right defensive tackle. Well, fret not. All three spots appear as if they are well-manned.

Donte Deayon emerging as reliable depth option for the Giants at cornerback. Donte Deayon had a stall in the Giants' locker room last season off the wall, in the middle of the room. He was a practice squad rookie corner with a space in the building but no game day jersey to wear on Sundays.

Giants linemen Bobby Hart, Ereck Flowers have something to prove. Both are young. Both had disappointing 2016 seasons. And both return to a starting position in training camp with a microscope on their progress.

Aug 6 The Giants held their longest practice of training camp on Sunday. Coach Ben McAdoo was pleased with the amount of work the team squeezed into the 2-hour, 10-minute session.
One of the things the Giants worked hard on was their red zone offense, which last year wasn't very effective. Tight end Evan Engram stole the show in the red zone, showing exactly why the Giants liked him so much to draft him first overall.

Former Giants
Michael Strahan was a visitor to training camp Saturday. Strahan watched some of the session, and then addressed the team at the end.

Aug 5 The Giants have a period in practice that they call "Opportunity Seven-on-Seven." It might as well be called The Davis Webb Show.

B.J. Goodson's high level of intensity has stood out through the early part of training camp. He's been consistently delivering hard hits on his teammates, and that physicality has gotten him involved in some scuffles.
After playing just 13 defensive snaps as a rookie fourth-round pick last season, the Clemson product was tasked with becoming the starting middle linebacker in his second year.

Aug 4 Even when he is given a day off, Eli Manning isn't far from the action. But instead of simply observing in his baseball cap, Manning grabbed a walkie-talkie and started calling the plays like an offensive coordinator.

When Sterling Shepard planted his foot while running a routine route during Wednesday's practice, the Giants wide receiver said his left ankle rolled 90 degrees.
The fear Sterling Shepard could be lost for the season was about as real as his supposed tears. But Friday, Shepard said an MRI confirmed the team's initial prognosis that it was nothing more than a sprained ankle and bone bruise.

When the Giants reported back for training camp in late July after a six-week break, coach Ben McAdoo commended his players for staying "off the ticker." On Thursday, every player was rewarded for his good behavior with a new pair of Air Jordan 4 sneakers.

Aug 3 For the third straight day, the New York Giants went through a full padded practice. And for the third straight day, there were some dustups - at least three to be exact - that occurred during team drills.
Ben McAdoo had no problem with tempers flaring for the fourth consecutive practice on Thursday. There was a particularly heated skirmish during a run drill on Thursday that featured linemen on both sides of the ball.

Aug 2 What a difference a year makes for Paul Perkins. Last season as a rookie, Perkins was playing catch-up with the offense and found himself way down on the depth chart behind the likes of Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen and Orleans Darkwha. Now, he's the Giants' featured back at training camp.

Well, it was fun while it lasted for Aldrick Rosas. The rookie spent the first few days of his first NFL training camp as the only kicker on the Giants roster. That changed Tuesday, when the Giants signed Mike Nugent, a 13-year veteran with 158 regular-season and postseason games on his resume.

His NFL career is in its infancy and this is the early stages of his first training camp, yet Dalvin Tomlinson sees a pathway to a coveted starting job on the loaded Giants defensive line.
What Tomlinson hopes to do is convince the Giants coaches that he's the right man to step into the spot vacated by Johnathan Hankins on that defensive line.

Win one for Jayro. It was a rallying cry for some Giants before training camp began and now it hits even closer to home as Jayro Ponce, the 9-year-old Giants fan battling a rare form of cancer, lost his battle with the deadly disease late Monday night, his family announced.

Former Giants
Jared Lorenzen was known in his playing days for his large frame, but ballooned to 500 pounds last year. He is now launching a video project to help inspire others to drop pounds.

NFL News
With the start of the season almost upon us, it might be useful to look at the various changes that have been implemented that will affect the manner in which the game will be officiated this season.

Aug 1 Giants coach Ben McAdoo has been talking up Evan Engram's blocking ability since the team selected the tight end in the first round of the draft. The Giants plan to move Engram around frequently. They have been tinkering with a variety of looks early in training camp, including more two-tight end sets than they used last season.

It is almost as if they are linked, joined together by their age, position and career arch. They are referred to as "the two young tackles" and at times it seems as if the fall or rise of Ereck Flowers and Bobby Hart is intertwined.

Steve Spagnuolo is still the Giants' defensive coordinator. Maybe because of the strides they made last season, going from the worst defense in the NFL to one of the top units, Spagnuolo is allowing the players to have more input and more say in what will happen on the field this season.

Jonathan Casillas grew up in New Jersey, right in the heart of Giants territory. And he played for seven NFL seasons and won two Super Bowls before he signed with the Giants in 2015. Yet even he did not appreciate the full scope of what it means to play defense for this franchise until he arrived with the team.

Aldrick Rosas is the only kicker in Giants' training camp. In some ways, his competition for the job come Sept. 10 in the regular season opener against the Cowboys can be found in the mirror. But that's not entirely how Rosas sees it.

NFL News
Colin Kaepernick is still unemployed, but NFL commissioner Roger Goodell believes it has nothing to do with the quarterback's political beliefs.

July 31 Training camp fights are typically reserved for members of opposite sides of the ball and usually happen during full-contact drills. Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins and safety Eric Pinkins got into a scuffle after a wind sprint late in Sunday's practice.
It took until the New York Giants' third training camp practice for things to turn chirpy. The dustup was over as quickly as it started. And McAdoo seemed fine with what happened.

Giants rookie Jadar Johnson abruptly retires from football. The Giants rookie announced his retirement on Sunday three days into his first training camp.

Former Giants
Larry Donnell will get a chance at a fresh start after signing with the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Donnell spent five years with the Giants after joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2012.

July 30 The Giants upped the intensity for their second training camp practice on Saturday. While players were still only in helmets and shells, there were competitive 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 team periods.
On the first play of the 7-on-7 period, Eli Manning looked as if he wanted to make an immediate statement. Manning's pass got hung up a bit in the stiff wind, but Brandon Marshall used his size and strength to box out Janoris Jenkins to make the catch, much to the delight of the fans on hand.
Head coach Ben McAdoo hasn't come right out and said it in so many words, at least not yet but it's clear that's really pushing the "all for one" motif in his locker room. The best example of this came on one of the very first plays in the 11-on-11 session.

The Giants' 2017 training camp needs a new official name: The Odell Beckham Jr. Lovefest. On Saturday, the Beckham hype machine spun into dizzying overdrive when new Giant Brandon Marshall declared, unsolicited, that "Odell obviously is the best player in the NFL."
Beckham lined up to the left of the formation, awaited the snap to Eli Manning, and then raced upfield. He ran a deep crossing route and was wide open when he caught Manning's pass in stride and raced in for the touchdown. A crowd of several hundred people roared their approval from the bleachers.

July 29 The Giants are going all-in on Odell. John Mara committed unequivocally Friday afternoon to signing star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to a lucrative long-term contract extension, possibly "sooner rather than later.
Mara wants him to be a Giant For Life because he believes Beckham can be instrumental in delivering that fifth Lombardi Trophy to East Rutherford, because he hasn't had a player this impactful since Lawrence Taylor.

Eli Manning showed some signs of fatigue Friday after the Giants held their first practice of training camp. It had nothing to do with being 36 years old. It had everything to do with discussing the fact he is 36 years old.

Conventional wisdom says the Giants can't have enough capable pass catchers, but it would be understandable if Sterling Shepard has some qualms about that logic. It seems inevitable Shepard's targets will go down. The question is just how much.

B.J. Goodson is primed to become the Giants' new middle linebacker, but it's an old, familiar face that's helping him prepare for the challenge. Former Big Blue middle linebacker Antonio Pierce was back on the practice field at Quest Diagnostics Training Center in East Rutherford, hovering over Goodson during drills.

July 28 John Mara said several times during the offseason that he wants Odell Beckham Jr. to be a Giant for life. On Thursday, Beckham gave the team's co-owner a hint of what that might cost.
Odell Beckham wants to be the NFL's highest-paid player. Does he have a chance? Could Beckham become the Giants' highest-paid player once Eli Manning retires? Certainly. Is the highest-paid non-quarterback a reasonable goal? No doubt.

GM Jerry Reese's big risk could undermine this Giants season. Jerry Reese was in a good mood on Thursday, which is typical for everyone on the first day of training camp.
The Giants have high expectations entering this season, but perhaps their most glaring weakness is the offensive line. Big Blue returns all five starters on the line this season, but center Weston Richburg and guard Justin Pugh are optimistic things will be different.
Their line was substandard, especially the work of their tackles, Ereck Flowers on the left side and Bobby Hart on the right side. The run blocking was shoddy and the pass protection was suspect.

Reese: Eli Manning's workload to be managed in 2017. Through careful attention to detail, including managing his snaps, general manager Jerry Reese is hoping that there are still a lot of good years left in Manning's right arm.
There has not been much intrigue around the Giants' quarterback situation since Eli Manning took the reins from Kurt Warner in Week 10 of the 2004 season.

July 27 Special Report - Well, Giants Nation, training camp opens up Friday, and expectations for this team have not been this high entering the summer sessions in at least five years, going back to 2012 (when New York was the defending world champion), so there is a lot to be excited about in East Rutherford.
After all, the team finished 11-5 last season, a record that was only exceeded by one solitary team in the NFC. Unfortunately, that team happened to be in our division (Cowboys) which meant a trip to Lambeau Field on Wild Card Weekend to play the Packers in January, always a challenging proposition. And we all know how that ended up after a promising first quarter - a 38-13 demolition that ended the Giants season.
But 11-5 is the best record they have had in nine years, and on top of that, their formerly moribund defense went from second to last in the NFL in 2015, to second best scoring defense in football (17.8 points per game), only behind the Patriots (16.7 pts/game).

July 26 The start of the Giants' most-anticipated season in a while is a day away. The second year of the Ben McAdoo era will open Thursday when the Giants report to the team facility in East Rutherford for the start of training camp.
Players report Thursday and the Giants take the field Friday for their first training camp practice of the summer. Of the 90 players assembled, nearly 40 percent will not make the final cut. For the next five weeks, the Giants will evaluate the talent on hand and determine who stays and who goes.

Landon Collins spent part of this past Friday on a high school field in Wayne, New Jersey, working with about 200 grade school-aged football campers. He posed for pictures, threw some soft passes and handed out a few tips and words of advice to the kids. It was a very sweet optic. But that was not the camp on Collins' mind.
Much has changed since Giants safeties coach Dave Merritt played linebacker in the NFL from 1993-95. The latest example is the huge projection screen on a wall in the Giants' indoor practice facility. The screen is large enough that players appear life-size, so a film session becomes interactive.

The Giants travel to Dallas on Sept. 10 for a Sunday Night Football matchup with the Cowboys. It will be the Giants' third straight opener in Dallas. Dwayne Harris has a personal connection to the rivalry. He spent his first four seasons with the Cowboys before signing a five-year, $17.5 million contract with the Giants in 2015.

July 25 Open Letter to Odell Beckham: We've seen too many talents wasted in New York -- don't be the next one. When you report to your fourth training camp with the Giants on Thursday, your approval rating with Giants fans will be at its peak after your act of kindness last week.

July 24 Evaluating the New York Giants running back situation. As training camp prepares to open, several position battles become focal points.
The Giants don't have many loose ends to tie up as they prepare to report to training camp on Thursday, July 27, but they do have some.

July 23 The biggest question of Giants camp should lose training wheels. Here are five Giants to watch when training camp begins on Thursday: OT Ereck Flowers, LB B.J. Goodson, RB Paul Perkin, FS Darian Thompson, K Aldrick Rosas.

Running back Paul Perkins has the greatest potential of any Giant for a second-year breakout. In an uncharacteristic move, Giants coach Ben McAdoo named Perkins the starting running back this spring.

The Post's guide to the 2016-17 NFC East.

July 22 Landon Collins appears to be more offended by Dak Prescott's prediction of a repeat NFC East title for the Cowboys than Jason Pierre-Paul had been the previous day. The All-Pro safety fired back at Dak on Friday, saying he highly doubts the Dallas quarterback's prognostication will come true this season.

At next week's training camp, Giants' safety Landon Collins wants a chance to showcase his skills on the other side of the ball. During OTAs earlier this summer, McAdoo introduced an "opportunity period" after practice which allowed players to work with other positions. Collins said he worked with the receivers.

Former Giants
Plaxico Burress, the former Giants wide receiver and Super Bowl XLII hero, was on hand Friday in Glendale, Ariz., as the Cardinals opened training camp, according to multiple reports. Burress is said to be there as a coaching intern under head coach Bruce Arians, who was his position coach with the Steelers in 2004.

July 21 Jason Pierre-Paul doesn't blame Dak Prescott for guaranteeing the Dallas Cowboys will win the NFC East at this month's ESPY Awards. JPP is just as confident in himself and the Giants. Plus, Prescott and the Cowboys, swept by Big Blue in last year's season series, are going to have to prove it anyway in Week 1 this fall down in Texas.
Jason Pierre-Paul won't declare the Giants a Super Bowl contender because "everyone thinks they're a Super Bowl contender" at this time of year, but he understands others have a somewhat-different outlook. It's also about the fear - in the Giants and their defense, that is.
Just like that, Pierre-Paul, 28, is entering his eighth season with the Giants and is the longest-tenured defensive player, around the team longer than any player other than Eli Manning and Zak DeOssie. It does not seem as if he just recently arrived, but the thought of JPP as an elder statesman is, well, a bit unnerving.

NFL News
Here are 50 predicted headlines to mull over, laying out the various highs and lows that will mark the season as it unfolds, from September to February.

July 20 The Giants will open training camp in eight days (on July 27), so the 2018 offseason is a long way away. That being said, what happens between now and the end of the 2017 season will have a major impact on the future of a slew of Giants who are entering the final years of their contracts, including left guard Justin Pugh, center Weston Richburg, linebacker Keenan Robinson and others.

Ereck Flowers dedicated himself this offseason to change his New York Giants narrative in 2017 and veteran defensive tackle Damon Harrison has taken note. "I've had the chance to watch Ereck Flowers this offseason first-hand," Harrison said Tuesday on Sirius XM Radio, via Big Blue View. The guy is 100 percent committed to doing better than he did last year."

July 18 It looks like New York is finally getting to Ben McAdoo. At least fashionwise. The notoriously style-challenged Giants head coach appeared on NBC New York with Bruce Beck on Sunday night looking as though he'd undergone a full-fledged off-season metamorphosis into Pat Riley.

Former Giants
Mark Bavaro, arguably the greatest tight end in Giants history, wondered why it had taken so long for the organization to use a high draft pick on a tight end.

July 15 The development of a high-quality middle linebacker has been a longstanding issue for the Giants. The Giants have a legitimately elite defensive line and a secondary that's deserving of that same distinction. Between the front four and back four players, however, is a trio that ranked amongst the very worst in the NFL in 2017.

Cowboys - For the first time since he was a little kid, Tony Romo is not spending his summer getting ready to play football.

July 14 Brandon Marshall saw which way the Jets were going and wanted no part of losing. The former Jets and now Giants wide receiver said in a radio interview Thursday he asked for his release from Gang Green when he saw the team was going to rebuild.
Brandon Marshall abruptly walked out of a radio interview when the subject turned to race Thursday morning. Appearing on a remote broadcast of WEEI's "Kirk & Callahan Show," Marshall was upset when the interview veered towards race and comments he made in 2015 about how white and black players are treated differently.

July 10 Sometimes we don't appreciate what's in front of us. That seems to be the case with Giants quarterback Eli Manning. Manning gets picked apart more than any other two-time Super Bowl MVP.

July 9 Thirteen months back, Ben McAdoo was a 38-year-old with big eyes and nothing to lose, coaching a 2016 team on a four-year playoff drought after two-time Super Bowl winning coach Tom Coughlin was pushed out the door. But following an 11-5 debut and a 2016 playoff berth, McAdoo suddenly faces heightened outside expectations: Simply making the playoffs won't be sufficient.

July 6 Don't sweat it, Giants: 7 reasons why 2017 schedule means NFC East title. The league did space out the long flights. The Giants have at least two weeks between each of their four long flight. The Giants will travel 22,954 miles this season, according to Delta. That is the ninth-most travel miles in the NFL this season, and the most for any East Coast team that is not playing a game in London.

Several Giants asserted themselves in the offseason as sleepers to contribute on offense, including receiver Darius Powe, quarterback Geno Smith, fullback Shane Smith, running back Shaun Draughn and offensive lineman Adam Bisnowaty. Here are the guys on defense to keep an eye on as training camp approaches in late July.

Jason Pierre-Paul has sold his 5,433-square-foot mansion in Boca Raton, FL, for $1.2 million-exactly the price he paid for it five years ago. The 28-year-old defensive stud grew up 10 miles south of Boca, in Deerfield Beach, FL.

July 4 Are Odell Beckham Jr. and Landon Collins on their way to The Hall Of Fame? Will the Giants' two best young players have careers that are Canton-worthy?

July 3 The Giants' path to prominence this season is on the ground, according to Pro Football Weekly. The long-running periodical has released its 2017 NFL season preview magazine, and it projects another playoff trip for the Giants. PFW says the Giants will just miss winning the NFC East, tying the Cowboys on record (10-6) but losing the division on unspecified tiebreakers.

June 30 Special Report - Jerry Reese is the Giants' general manager and he is also an undeniable optimist. "This is football," he says, "not a mathematical equation. Things happen that you don't expect and can't predict, either way."
So the man who is accused of presiding over a collapsing offensive line and playing with fire regarding a young, inexperienced and insatiable backup quarterback situation is sitting back - well, sort of - and evaluating the team he has built with the season drawing ever closer.
"Things tend to work out," he says, not mentioning that his first draft class (2007) saw all eight players make the team and help to lead the Giants to a Super Bowl victory.

June 29 A youngster asked for a picture with Steve Spagnuolo, and when the Giants' defensive coordinator obliged, the kid not only was appreciative for the photo op, but also something else. "Thanks for making our defense better," the young boy said. Spagnuolo smiled.

The Giants' offense was bailed out several times by the defense last season, but special teams played their part as well. Punter Brad Wing made facing the already daunting task of facing the Giants' defense even harder as he forced opposing offenses to begin their drives deep within their own territory.

Former Giants
Victor Cruz not so sure about Giants conspiracy anymore.

June 28 Brandon Marshall accepts his role with the Giants. In fact, the veteran is more than OK with not being the feature receiver for the first time since 2006 when he was a rookie with the Broncos.

If Eli Manning starts every game this season, he'll tie his brother Peyton for the second-longest consecutive starts streak in NFL history behind Brett Favre's untouchable mark of 321. Not surprisingly, Manning had no idea that he was closing in on his brother's streak.

June 27 Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was ranked the league's eighth-best player by his peers this season to round out the Giants' four-man representation on the list. Safety Landon Collins (No. 28), cornerback Janoris Jenkins (No. 54) and defensive tackle Damon Harrison (No. 96) made the cut as well.

Former Giants
Brandon Jacobs thinks current Giants team has what it takes to win another Super Bowl.
Martellus Bennett thinks Jay Cutler is better than Eli Manning.

June 26 Giants assistant who coached Janoris Jenkins with Rams sees major improvement. Tim Walton was the Rams' defensive coordinator in 2013 when Janoris Jenkins was a second-year cornerback bubbling with potential but lacking consistency.

Giants' only kicker is a mystery with a leg - who likes it that way. The official NFL bio of Aldrick Rosas is not very detailed. In fact, under the categories marked "Recent games" and "career stats," the identical sentence serves as all anyone needs to know about this mystery man: "This player does not have any statistics."

Former Giants
A few free agents departed this offseason. Here's an update on the destinations of all of the Giants' free agents.

June 25 The Giants have released their training camp schedule, which includes eleven practice sessions open to the public. These practice sessions, which will take place at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center on the MetLife Sports Complex, begin on Friday, July 28 at 11:40 a.m. and run through August 14.
Training camp is more than a month away, but the Giants' 2017 season already is their most highly anticipated in recent memory. Five observations to keep an eye on from the Giants' offseason that should have meaning come the summer and fal.

June 23 The expiration date on Eli Manning's status as the Giants' starting quarterback has been a source of debate this offseason. And that's only among the team's front office. Strictly from a financial perspective, it would be cost prohibitive for the Giants to cut ties with Manning before 2019.

How does Giants co-owner John Mara feel about star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.? "I wish we had another dozen players like him," Mara said during an interview with Mike Francesa on WFAN on Thursday afternoon.
But the Giants co-owner admitted the gifted wide receiver is still "a work in progress" and hasn't reached a level of maturity they are comfortable with.
Despite being one of the oldest NFL franchises, the New York Giants have never really had a player on their offense like receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham is a one-of-a-kind talent whose mere presence can create headaches for opposing defenses.

June 22 The trial over a lawsuit that accuses Giants quarterback Eli Manning of knowingly passing off unused helmets to be marketed and sold as game-used has been delayed indefinitely, according to a court filing.
The lawsuit, originally filed in January of 2014, alleges Manning and the Giants knowingly passed off memorabilia they fraudulently claimed was game-used, among other accusations made by three plaintiffs.

June 21 Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall, and Sterling Shepard make up the NFL's top wide receiver trio, at least according to NFL Network's Kyle Brandt. During a recent episode of the "Good Morning Football" show Brandt hosts, he made his case for the New York Giants trio.

The addition of Jets' wide receiver Brandon Marshall has been perceived in two different ways, however, there are 3 reasons why the New York Giants' signing of him cannot fail.

In each of the last two seasons, Will Tye, an undrafted free agent out of Stony Brook, as emerged as the starting tight end. Tye proved to be durable and there were never any questions about his effort. However, when it came to coming close to being a difference maker, that's where things become a little sketchy.

NFL 2017 preview magazine says Giants will make playoff run. But how far? Athlon believes the Giants have the makings of a contender this season, but their offensive line could ultimately hold them back.

June 20 What does Jay Bromley see when he studies the defensive line for the Giants and spots the glaring opening at right defensive tackle? "If I'm being honest, man, I see me," Bromley told The Post recently. "I see me."

Giants coaches and players have been beating an optimistic drum when it comes to offensive tackles Ereck Flowers and Bobby Hart. Their less-than-desirable play a year ago unquestionable hampered the Giants on offense, but we've heard again and again about their youth, offseason dedication and improved conditioning.

Undrafted free agents tend to get their due with the Giants. Victor Cruz, Mark Herzlich, Romeo Okwara, Will Tye - it's not uncommon for an undrafted rookie to earn a roster spot in training camp and then eventually work their way into a starting job. It won't be easy for an undrafted rookie to make the 53-man roster this year, though.

Former Giants
Lawrence Taylor pleaded guilty Monday to driving while under the influence after he sideswiped a cop car and a motor home in Florida last year.

June 18 An eight-week offseason program came to an end this past week with a three-day mandatory minicamp, providing the Giants with a final look at the players they've assembled. They have gone their separate ways until July 27, when the team reconvenes for training camp.

Jonathan Casillas' Giants outlook: "It's all set up for us" in 2017. Casillas had a career year in 2016 as the Giants' defense emerged as one of the NFL's best and helped power the team's 11-5 finish.

Odell Beckham Jr. vowed to be better than ever. At least in terms of preparation, the wideout believes he is. And if that translates into on-field results for the Giants that mesh with how Beckham feels? It's a thought that should terrify opposing defenses.
Odell Beckham Jr. said at his football camp for kids at Kean University in Union, N.J., that he has never "been as ready as I am now" for a season as he is for the upcoming Giants' 2017 campaign.

June 17 It's coming up on two years since July 4, 2015, the day that changed Jason Pierre-Paul's life, mangling his right hand. The fireworks incident could've ended his career, maybe worse.
He understands now more than ever that he could have left his son Josiah, now 2 1/2, without a father. Does he know you play for the Giants? "Oh, he knows. ... He might even know my number," JPP said with a smile.
Few expected Pierre-Paul to return to the type of player he was pre-injury. Doubts were confirmed in 2015 when Pierre-Paul managed just one sack in eight games while playing with a huge club on his right hand. But Pierre-Paul made major strides last season.

June 16 Davis Webb has already gone through a popular NFL rookie initiation. On Thursday, the rookie quarterback said Eli Manning made him sing a song in front of the whole team, and the third-round pick was tasked with giving his rendition of "Buy U A Drank" by T-Pain in front of his Giants teammates.
Webb said he will move into an apartment this week and stay in the New Jersey area during this six-week break, intent on continuing the NFL football education he started after the Giants made him a third-round pick. "I've learned something new every five minutes,'' Webb said.

Ereck Flowers discussed his offseason adjustments and goals for 2017. The 23-year-old left tackle was a mainstay at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center this offseason. He trained diligently for months, so much so that everyone noticed when the team hit the field for OTAs and minicamp.
The Giants are banking on legitimate improvement from Flowers, which explains why they didn't do as many had expected in the draft and select a potential replacement for him at left tackle.
Last season marked a low point: Flowers surrendered 54 QB pressures in the Giants' final 13 games, per Pro Football Focus, and added 10 penalties in that span. Bobby Hart at right tackle also surrendered 46 total QB pressures, giving the Giants one of the worst tackle combinations of the 2016 season.

June 15 Special Report - Most coaches in the NFL, and that includes coordinators and assistants, have a particular fantasy that continues to recur, although most of them never expect it to bear fruition. What is it? Well, if you're an offensive coordinator you want a proven, professional, two-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback. You want a tall, fast wide receiver. You want an incredibly fast wide receiver who, despite a few lapses in judgment, can burn any defense in the league. You want a slot receiver with moves, strength and football savvy.

Offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan raved about the team's options on offense and all the possibilities having so many weapons can create for quarterback Eli Manning. Sullivan talked about the wide receivers - Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall and Sterling Shepard - rookie tight end Evan Engram and the potential in explosive second-year running back Paul Perkins. Sullivan didn't specifically mention the offensive line. Perhaps there is a reason for that.

Offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan is tapping the brakes on praise for first-round pick Evan Engram. But just barely. While no one has actually come out and called Engram the "savior" of the offense, as Sullivan suggested, he does add a new level of variety to how the Giants can line up in 2017.

B.J. Goodson has a pretty good tutor. The second-year middle linebacker is learning this spring from Antonio Pierce, an intern coach in the offseason who won a Super Bowl with the Giants and spent five years in blue.
There is no reason for the Giants to accept anything less than greatness from their defense, given the money and draft picks invested in rebuilding from the dark days of 2015 - when this proud franchise put on the field one of its worst-ever defenses.

Why it's unlikely Odell Beckham Jr. will be a Giant For Life. Carl Banks, Joe Morris, Mark Bavaro, Jim Burt, Justin Tuck, Leonard Marshall, Osi Umenyiora, Amani Toomer, Victor Cruz, Brandon Jacobs, David Tyree, Pepper Johnson, Jim Burt and William Roberts, even Jeremy Shockey for a brief period, will always be considered great Giants. They all started their career with Big Blue but finished elsewhere.

June 14 Eli Manning looks at the collection of talent on this year's roster, and he likes what he sees. Although it's still early and nothing can be ascertained for sure until the pads go on, Manning said he's seen some early signs of progress from his blockers.
Now they have new weapons in Brandon Marshall and first-round tight end Evan Engram to help boost the Giants' pass attack along with Sterling Shepard and, of course, Odell Beckham, who was in attendance Tuesday after skipping all 10 voluntary OTAs.

Every few years, Eli Manning gets asked this question: Is this the most talented group of receivers you've ever had? Manning heard it again Tuesday, regarding Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall, Sterling Shepard (and tight end Evan Engram).
General manager Jerry Reese started the offseason by stating that Manning is "on the back nine." After drafting Davis Webb, Reese said that Manning understands his shelf life.

Odell Beckham Jr.'s presence with the Giants for the first time in a public setting since the playoff loss in Green Bay five months ago should signal the close of another chapter as Big Blue continues to refocus on what lies ahead: the 2017 season and the ultimate quest to reach Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis.
Odell Beckham Jr. didn't take many snaps during the first day of Giants' mandatory minicamp Tuesday, but when he did, he was impossible to miss.
Once drills began, Beckham lined up wide right and drove off the line of scrimmage at the snap. With one stutter-step, the Giants' star wide receiver sprinted to the middle of the field and Eli Manning hit him in stride as if he'd been here the entire spring.

Odell Beckham Jr. let his cleats do the talking Tuesday at his first Giants practice since he skipped OTAs, giving a nod to several media outlets - including ESPN, TMZ?, the Wall Street Journal? and The Post - with a pair of new Nikes that featured their logos with "SHHHHH!!!" superimposed.
Months after Giants general manager Jerry Reese demanded that Beckham finally grow up and mature, Beckham said he skipped a series of workouts with him teammates much to the frustration of the team to -- waaaiiit for it! -- grow and mature.

The star Giants wide receiver denied he skipped the team's voluntary organized team activity practices due to dissatisfaction with his contract situation. Beckham did not confirm or deny, though, that he would like to see his modest rookie deal amended with a big money extension after a historic start to his career.
Beckham continues to carry an awfully lofty opinion of himself that could backfire in contract discussions. He compared his need to bounce back from last season to "LeBron losing a Finals." That would be comparing a three-time NBA champion to an NFL player with an 0-1 career playoff record.

Benny with the good hair is now Benny with the new hair. Giants coach Ben McAdoo, whose appearance has sometimes been as scrutinized as his play-calling, debuted a new McA-do for the opening of Giants minicamp on Tuesday.

June 13 Odell Beckham Jr.'s return to the Giants' facility on Monday was meaningful, but it is anybody's guess what exactly it means. Beckham had promised NFL Network he would attend this week's mandatory minicamp, and he would have been fined $80,405 if he had skipped.
You can bet Beckham's presence will draw quite a crowd of reporters for a much-anticipated post-practice news conference. He has not addressed the media in a public setting since January in the aftermath of the Giants' playoff loss to the Packers.
Since then a lot has happened in his offseason. There was his alleged hole punching incident in Green Bay followed the day after by general manager Jerry Reese coming right out and saying that it was time for Beckham to "grow up" and think about some of the things he does.

June 12 Giants coach Ben McAdoo provided a simple explanation for naming Paul Perkins the starting running back in May. "It was Paul and Rashad (Jennings) last year and Rashad is no longer with us, so Paul is the next man up," McAdoo said on May 2.
Veteran Shane Vereen is coming off an injury-filled 2016 season and is more of a pass-catching threat than an every-down runner. Orleans Darkwa, a career backup, returns from an injury-marred season.
Darkwa enters this year behind Paul Perkins on the running back depth chart, but head coach Ben McAdoo said he believes Darkwa can be an impact player when healthy. If Darkwa stays healthy, he could be in line for a sizable role.

The fact Odell Beckham is apparently coming to minicamp suggests his OTA absence was not all about his modest contract, as was reported by ESPN. Or if it was, Beckham is not ready to push the envelope further by missing mandatory events that would open him up to fines.

June 11 Dave Merritt says Landon Collins has the potential to be the best safety in the NFL in 2017. Collins' jump from his first season to his second one certainly has sparked those possibilities, and he has told people he wants to be considered with Lawrence Taylor as one of the best defenders in team and NFL history.

June 10 Giants OTAs wrapped up Friday with a 10th and final practice, so now all that stands between Big Blue and training camp in late July is next week's three-day mandatory minicamp beginning Tuesday.
After 10 organized team activity practices, the Giants will gather next week for a three-day minicamp. Attendance is mandatory for all players. Those who do not show up will get fined.
Ben McAdoo anticipates a full house next week for the Giants' mandatory minicamp. Yes, even Odell Beckham Jr.

Everyone wants to know how good Paul Perkins can be. Fantasy football owners need to know if Perkins is going to command the most attention in the backfield, even after Giants coach Ben McAdoo declared he would be the team's starting running back. Scouts and draft experts alike predicted the Giants got themselves a sleeper with the selection of Perkins in the 2016 fifth-round.

Prior to just about every week last season, someone on the Giants' offense would say: "This is the week." It was a never-ending waiting game for the offense to break out, connect and start producing at the level most expected. That never happened. Through 16 games and a playoff loss, the offense never mustered 30 points in any single game.
General manager Jerry Reese fortified the defense for the 2016 season and turned his attention to the offense for the 2017 season. Eli Manning's championship window is now. How hungry is this team? "Very, very, very hungry," defensive captain Jonathan Casillas said.

Rookie tight end Evan Engram gripped a football as he followed his teammates into the Giants practice facility following the final session of organized team activities. The first-round draft pick had a pretty good handle on the ball earlier in the afternoon, too, eluding defenders and connecting with quarterback Eli Manning a couple of times during Thursday's seven-on-seven drills.
Evan Engram said "I don't pay a lot of mind to it,'' but he cannot entirely block out the criticism of his blocking. He hears it, because it is impossible not to. There was a slight edge to Engram's words, as if the widespread belief that he is a poor blocker is unfounded.
The problem is that he can't do anything to prove that presumption wrong. Not yet, anyway. The Giants - and all NFL teams - still are practicing without pads and won't be getting anywhere close to full contact until at least the start of training camp in late July.

June 9 One season after revamping the defense, the New York Giants decided to add some firepower to their offense via free agency and the NFL draft. Two big playmakers are now in the fold for a team with an offense that was already among the best in the league.
The Giants are pleased with the work left tackle Ereck Flowers and right tackle Bobby Hart put in together this offseason. Flowers appears to have slimmed down and Hart has gained necessary strength in the weight room.

It's not easy to remove the smile from the face of Giants tight end coach Kevin Gilbride these days. That's what happens when your team invests a first-round pick and significant cap space in free agency at your position.
The tight end wasn't featured much in the Giants' offense last season. Gilbride said he hoped that would change during the upcoming season.

Stadium News
Sports fans and concertgoers are going to find it a lot easier to get an Uber ride after an event at MetLife Stadium.

June 8 Odell Beckham Jr.'s absence from the New York Giants' organized team activities is directly related to the wide receiver's desire for a new contract, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
It's understandable Beckham wants more money. He is scheduled to make $1.8 million in base salary in 2017, the final year of his four-year rookie contract, and about $8.5 million next year thanks to his fifth-year option.
More than 40 receivers in the NFL will make more money from their team this season than Beckham will get from the Giants. "He can't play for $1.8 million," an NFL source opined to The Post, citing the danger of an injury wiping out Beckham's chances for a truly record-breaking contract.
Still, what Beckham has to understand is that the timing of this is tricky, complicated by his unpredictable personality and by his playoff failure in Green Bay in January.
By this time next week, when Beckham is presumably in attendance for the Giants' mandatory mini-camp, perhaps the drama and worry about his relationship with his employers should go down a notch. Or two notches. Or maybe a hundred.

Nobody knows a football player better than his position coach. From the meeting room to the practice field, that's who they spend the most time with at the facility. And that goes double for rookies. So when the Giants' staff met with the media on Wednesday, the assistants broke down the 2017 draft picks like no one else can.

Eli Manning is a prankster, Dalvin Tomlinson wants to sack Dak Prescott, and Plaxico Burress still can't believe he faced single coverage when he caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLII. Those were just some of the many highlights at Tuesday night's Giants Town Hall, presented by NewYork-Presbyterian.

June 7 Odell Beckham Jr. showed his strongest sign yet Tuesday night that his absence from Giants OTAs is about the money. And if it's not a holdout, it sure looks like one now.
It's unclear exactly how much Beckham is seeking in a new contract, but it's safe to say he'll at least be aiming to become the highest-paid wide receiver in the league.
John Mara said the team hopes to see the star receiver end his career with the Giants. Mara also said the team has not yet begun negotiations with Beckham's camp on a long-term extension, but those talks could begin soon.

The Jets just cut the savior the Giants need. Ben McAdoo wants talented men of integrity? Meet David Harris. There would be no better mentor or insurance for second-year linebacker B.J. Goodson than Harris.

June 6 On Monday the Giants held their seventh of ten Organized Team Activities (OTAs) which will continue this week until mandatory minicamp wraps up the offseason program next week. Overall, it was a good day for the offense.

Wide receiver Roger Lewis was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired early Sunday morning in Ohio. Lewis, who was present at Giants OTAs two weeks ago, most recently made headlines as part of the Odell Beckham-headlined Miami boat trip before the team's wild-card loss to the Packers in January.

Former Giants
Chris Snee estimates he watched more film during his decade with the Giants than anyone other than Eli Manning. He always figured he would stay in the game, and he has.

June 4 When running back Paul Perkins dropped a sure touchdown pass Thursday afternoon during team drills at the Giants' practice facility, defensive tackle Damon Harrison raised his hands in the air to celebrate. It was all in fun. Harrison greeted Perkins with a hug and a slap on the helmet as everyone else laughed. As much as learning the offensive and defensive playbooks are a focal point of offseason training activities, so is building the kind of camaraderie and unity that can last throughout a long NFL season.

Don't tell Matt LaCosse OTAs are meaningless. Established players with guaranteed contracts, such as wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and defensive end Olivier Vernon, can skip the OTAs and know they will have a spot on the team come training camp. LaCosse isn't always sure he will back the next day. The sure-handed tight end made the most of Friday's practice, making a pair of diving catches in the end zone that should earn a strong look during the upcoming training camp.

The best, worst and weirdest Giants - at playing softball. Did you know Eli Manning bats lefty? Well, he does. That was one of the revelations coming out of Friday night's Landon Collins Celebrity Softball Game at Palisades Credit Union Park in Pomona, NY.

June 3 Ben McAdoo changes his tune as Odell Beckham, others continue to stay away from OTAs. "We did the attendance song and dance last week," McAdoo said when asked about the challenge of inconsistency in practice with players in-and-out. "So let's skip that this week."
They have the weekend off and will pick back at it on Monday for the final four practices before mandatory minicamp. Here are three players who stood out on Friday: TE Matt LaCosse, QB Josh Johnson, Safety Darian Thompson.  |   Photos   |  Photos

Now that Eli Apple has an NFL season under his belt he's focused on adding some muscle, which isn't just helping his strength but has increased his speed as well. Bigger, stronger, faster.
Eli Apple has not participated in the OTAs since straining his hamstring in the third OTA last Thursday. Apple said the hamstring strain is not the same one that acted up on him last year. He expressed confidence that he would return to the field before the end of the spring program.

With their offseason personnel moves, or lack thereof, the Giants have suggested significant faith in Ereck Flowers and Bobby Hart as a starting offensive tackle duo - faith some would argue is unwarranted. Flowers, the No. 9-overall pick in 2015, has struggled in his first two years at left tackle. Hart, a seventh-round pick that year, lost his starting job late last season after an up-and-down campaign.
