Game 16 Preview Giants (4-11) Eagles 8-7)
The Philadelphia Eagles have been chasing the Dallas Cowboys all season long. They had caught up, and then pulled ahead last week with a 17-9 home game win at Lincoln Financial Field.
Last Sunday the Giants scored their most points in any one game this season. Still, they needed an overtime period to finally come away with a 41-35 win over the Washington Redskins.

Dec 29 Sunday is expected to be Eli Manning's last game in a Giants uniform and he will spend the day on the sideline, as the backup to rookie Daniel Jones. When Manning exits, after 16 years, those in the building and within the franchise will be left with indelible memories of Eli the quarterback, No. 10, and Eli the person. Here are some of those memories...

Dec 28 Seven reasons why Giants could consider keeping Pat Shurmur for 2020. Shurmur is 9-22 through nearly two seasons with New York. there are definitely things working in Shurmur's favor and those factors will all get a long look from John Mara and Steve Tisch early next week.
Pat Shurmur stood there in the New York Giants' field house following Thursday's practice talking with certainty about next year and what he believes will be the unveiling of a foundation created by playing so many young players in a lost season. The uncertainty is whether Shurmur will be around to see this rebuild bring success.
As soon as the scoreboard clock in Sunday's Giants-Eagles game hits all zeroes, all eyes among Big Blue fans will turn to the team's ownership. Will coach Pat Shurmur return in 2020? Will general manager Dave Gettleman be back?

Dec 27 Two titles, 210 straight starts, one Eli: How Manning conquered New York. For a while there Archie Manning, who had his prime wasted by the hapless New Orleans Saints, wondered whether Eli or the coach, Tom Coughlin, would get run out of town first.

Dec 26 Giants must consider mayhem that comes with another coaching change. Continuity and stability are the hallmarks of any successful franchise, and the upheaval that enters the room when an entire coaching staff heads for the exit is real, disconcerting and counter-intuitive to long-term winning.

Dec 25 Heading into the final game of the season, the man who leads the New York Giants in receiving yards and touchdowns is rookie Darius Slayton, with 690 yards and 8 TDs.

Dec 24 The Giants will play their final game of the 2019 season on Sunday. They would like to force the Philadelphia Eagles to do the same. Despite those weighty stakes, the Giants' focus in the game will not be how it affects the Eagles, but in playing well and ending the season with a three-game winning streak.

Giants can't fall into this dangerous Pat Shurmur trap. The entire body of work, and not the uptick the past few weeks, will be the measuring stick to determine Shurmur's fate, and just like Carlo had to answer for Santino, Shurmur will have to answer for the nine-game losing streak that spoiled this season rotten.
The Giants could be in the final countdown, with the clock possibly hitting zero on the Pat Shurmur era in less than a week. It would come as no surprise if the Giants fire Shurmur following their Week 17 game on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Game 15 Preview Giants (3-11) Redskins (3-11)
The Redskins are coming off a close game with the Philadelphia Eagles. The lead changed hands many times, but a touchdown with 26 seconds left put the Eagles up by four points. A fumble returned for a touchdown on the Redskins last drive, made the score 37-27 in favor of the Eagles.
On Sunday the Giants started Eli Manning, and they scored their highest points of the season. It was a 36-20 much needed win over the Miami Dolphins that ended their long 9 game losing streak.

Dec 22 Giants have simple goals for Daniel Jones over his final two starts of rookie season. "Going to the right guy with the football, getting the ball there on time, and accurately," offensive coordinator Mike Shula said following Thursday's practice. "Just the consistency of that decision-making."

This will be the first of ... how many? Daniel Jones starting at quarterback for the Giants, Dwayne Haskins behind center for the Redskins. A pair of 22-year old rookies drafted in the first round by rivals in the same division, closing out this decade with their first real duel when two bad teams with matching 3-11 records meet Sunday at FedEx Field.

Dec 21 Will Eli Manning go into broadcasting or coaching after NFL retirement? What will Manning, a lifelong football player born into the first family of the sport, do after retiring? One former teammate is not sure, but he thinks it'll have nothing to do with the game -- not coaching, not broadcasting, nothing.

Dec 20 Wayne Gallman's disappearing playing time is a Giants mystery. Gallman has not knocked on Shurmur's door demanding an explanation as to how he slipped from 118 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown in Week 4 to a healthy scratch the past two games. That game, against this week's opponent the Redskins, accounts for 55 percent of Gallman's yardage this season.

Dec 18 The Giants know exactly when and where their 2019 season will end: Dec. 29 at MetLife Stadium. After that, they put away the footballs and shoulder pads and become spectators, for the eighth time in the last nine years, when the playoffs come around. Not all of this can be used as evidence against Dave Gettleman.

The Giants entered training camp excited about their collection of offensive ballhandlers that included Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard, Golden Tate and Evan Engram. But when Engram was placed on injured reserve, it not only ended his season, it guaranteed that the team will not play one game this year with all four of them on the field at the same time.

Dec 17 Eli Manning's emotional sendoff doesn't guarantee he will say goodbye immediately. And while the sprained ankle that forced Daniel Jones to the inactive list the last two games is improving, coach Pat Shurmur isn't certain if the rookie quarterback will get the clearance to line up against the Redskins.

Game 14 Preview Giants (2-11) Dolphins (3-10)
The Dolphins lost a tough one to the Jets last week. The lead went back and forth during the game, and the outcome was decided by one point in favor of the Jets, 22-21.
Last Monday night in their game with the Eagles, the Giants had things going their way with a 17-3 lead going into halftime. They couldn't keep up the pace after that, and lost the game 23-17.

Dec 15 The proper Eli Manning goodbye is all that's left for Giants. For those who cannot get Manning out of the bloodstream, there were glimpses of the thrilling days of yesteryear when the soon-to-be 39-year-old tossed two electric touchdown passes to rookie Darius Slayton, Manning's first activity since Sept. 15, and the Giants took a 17-3 lead on the Eagles.

Dec 14 Eli Manning will get another chance to win a final game as the starting quarterback for the New York Giants Sunday, as he will start for New York when the Giants face the Miami Dolphins. This will be the second consecutive game Manning will start for the Giants, as rookie Daniel Jones is still dealing with a high ankle sprain.

The Giants announced that cornerback Janoris Jenkins has been waived/injured. Jenkins injured his ankle in the Giants' loss Monday night in Philadelphia and has not practiced this week. On Wednesday, while he was rehabbing the injury inside the Quest Diagnostics Training Center during practice, Jenkins engaged in an inappropriate Twitter exchange with a fan.

Giants fan Janoris Jenkins called a 'retard' didn't want him cut. One frustrated Giants fan - there are thousands more out there after the team has tied a franchise record with nine straight losses - wanted to hear less about statistics and more about wins. He never could have imagined what happened next.

Dec 13 Daniel Jones continues to make progress from his sprained ankle, but no official determination has been issued whether Eli Manning will get his second consecutive start Sunday against the Dolphins at MetLife Stadium. "He's getting better," Pat Shurmur said before practice about Jones, who officially was listed as "limited" for a second consecutive day. "We'll see how his ankle responds and how many reps he gets. Eli goes, if he's not able to start."

Dec 12 Giants quarterback Eli Manning is likely to start Sunday against the Dolphins, according to SNY. And this could be the final home start of Manning's legendary Giants career. Manning, a two-time Super Bowl winner (and MVP), is 116-117 in his regular season starts. So this is also a chance for him to get back to .500 in his career, at least for the regular season.

He knew he was on borrowed time but never believed his expiration date would come after only two weeks. That is what chafed Eli Manning most of all. He felt his team bailed on him too soon, that the coaching staff was too eager to get rookie Daniel Jones on the field.

The Giants drafted the correct quarterback to handle the drama of Eli Manning's final season, that's for sure. It appears Daniel Jones still won't play Sunday against the Miami Dolphins even though he looks like he clearly can. But the rookie quarterback isn't bucking. He's going along with what looks like an organizational plan to give Manning at least one more home start, discussing it all respectfully and unemotionally.

Giants quarterback Eli Manning is likely to start Sunday against the Dolphins, according to SNY. And this could be the final home start of Manning's legendary Giants career. Manning, a two-time Super Bowl winner (and MVP), is 116-117 in his regular season starts. So this is also a chance for him to get back to .500 in his career, at least for the regular season.

Dec 11 Special Report - Generally, telephone conference calls with the head coach are somewhat predicable. If the next-day ritual is after a victory, there is much laughter, a few wise-guy comments and compliments doled out to the players and the coaching staff. If it takes place after a defeat, the atmosphere is far more subdued. Questions are asked and answered (usually) with shorter sentences and a more somber tone.
Then there was Tuesday afternoon when Giants' head coach Pat Shurmur took his turn on the speaker phone. His guys had just lost their ninth consecutive game (tying the all-time team record set in 1976) and the unspoken thought, the so-called elephant in the room, concerned on Shurmur's job.

Game 13 Preview Giants (2-10) Eagles (5-7)
A week ago the Eagles had a chance to be tied with the Cowboys for the lead in the NFC East. They were up 28-14 in Miami, and then let the Dolphins come back with 3 touchdowns and a field goal to hand them a 37-31 loss.
Last Sunday the Giants hosted the Green Bay Packers in MetLife Stadium. The score was close going into the fourth quarter, but Green Bay pulled away. The Giants dropped their eighth straight game with a 31-13 loss to the Packers.

Dec 9 No one ever had to remind Eli Manning that playing in the NFL was a privilege and not a right. And to Victor Cruz, not to mention virtually everyone else, it was a privilege to call Manning his teammate and quarterback. Cruz was an eyewitness to one of the most courageous performances in Giants history, and later to an act of empathy and compassion that stamped Manning one more time as the Pride of the Giants.

Try to put aside any delusions of grandeur you may have for Eli Manning's unexpected return as the New York Giants' starting quarterback Monday night and instead appreciate this game against the Eagles for what it really is. A second chance at a proper goodbye. Just seeing No. 10 out there again trying to lead the Giants to victory will be good enough for most, but it will never be a good enough farewell for a legend.

Dec 8 They say it's been business as usual all week. But it has not. They insist that nothing's changed during the week of practice. But it has. For at least the three hours across Monday Night Football in Philadelphia, everything changes for the Giants because Eli Manning will be back at quarterback for them after sitting out the past 10 games, benched in favor of rookie Daniel Jones. So, at 2-10 and having lost their past eight games, the Giants are going back to the future - maybe just for one game, maybe two, possibly for the final four games of the season.

Dec 7 The biggest beneficiary of the Giants' injury-prompted quarterback switch from the rookie Jones back to the 16-year veteran Eli Manning could be Saquon Barkley, who hasn't topped 83 rushing yards in the first seven games he has played alongside Jones.

Dec 6 Special Report - For a while there, it looked as though the Giants were going to make some noise and maybe, just maybe, pull off what would have been considered an upset on Sunday, in the weird snow/rain, at MetLife against Green Bay.
The Giants hung within a touchdown and went into the fourth quarter down by just four points before, well, something happened and everything fell apart, mostly the defense, which allowed 14 unanswered points (right, the offense collapsed, too).
Suddenly, the game went from a close one to a blowout in front of about 12 people in the stands. With the loss, the Giants fell to 2-10, were officially eliminated from the post-season and guaranteed a worse record than 2018, when they went 5-9, which was a two-game improvement over 2017's 3-13.

Dec 5 There's a decent chance Giants quarterback Eli Manning starts for the rest of this season. So can he parlay a strong, four-game finish into a job in 2020? Yes, absolutely. And that answer isn't as crazy as it sounds.

Crazy how this all worked out, right? That the NFL team desperately in need of a distraction and some public goodwill somehow stumbled into a situation where a late-revealed sprained ankle sustained by their struggling rookie quarterback somehow allows their fan-favorite veteran quarterback to start at least one of the final few games of his storied Giants career. What are the odds!?

Daniel Jones' ankle sprain can't be the real reason Eli Manning is playing on Monday night? Daniel Jones could play through this ankle injury if the Giants let him. The real mystery here is why they won't and why they're starting Eli Manning Monday night in Philadelphia even though Jones is saying he can go.

Dec 4 Giants paid the price for roster overhaul, but are better days ahead? When general manager Dave Gettleman was hired to sort through the pieces of a roster that had crumbled under the weight of what he saw as a cultural issue, the general manager had two choices in how he could approach fixing what ailed the franchise.

The Giants are 2-10 this season, 7-21 in the last two, and out of the playoffs for the third straight year and the seventh time in the last eight seasons. So it's time to put GM Dave Gettleman on the witness stand - figuratively, of course, since he hasn't held a press conference since July 26.

Dec 3 No need for the Giants to dust off Eli Manning just yet. When Daniel Jones went into the injury tent on the sideline for trainers to get a better look at his ankle during Sunday's loss to the Packers, it raised the only non-sentimental-related scenario where the franchise icon might get back under center. But Manning never even took off his coat to begin throwing on the sideline.

The Packers played last Sunday night in San Francisco. The 49ers defense brought the pressure, and Green Bay ended up scoring their lowest amount of points in the season, taking a 37-8 loss to the 49ers.
The Giants played their game in Chicago, and though they scored first, they fell behind. The Giants ended up with a 19-14 loss to show for their efforts.

Dec 1 A very sad birthday for Giants owner John Mara. And this is because you will spend your birthday watching your beloved 2-9 Giants try to defend MetLife Stadium from the great Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. You will hear Giants fans calling for coach Pat Shurmur's head, and you might feel the way your father felt when they were singing "Goodbye Allie, we hate to see you go."

Nov 30 Some very bad football has been played by the Giants for so long now that there is almost no one in the locker room who has ever experienced winning with this franchise. The pictures on the walls and trophies in the case at the team facility might as well be from the dark ages.

Nov 29 Zak DeOssie was set to play in his 200th game for the Giants on Sunday. Instead, he is likely headed to injured reserve and there is a very good chance his time with the team is up after 199 games, two Super Bowl victories and countless plays on special teams.

Nov 28 The Giants - They did not have a full complement of offensive players in any of their first 11 games. And that will likely be the case again on Sunday, when they host the Green Bay Packers.

Nov 27 Daniel Jones knew it would not be easy, but after winning his first two NFL starts, he never imagined he would head into December still awaiting win No. 3.

Nov 26 Two of the Giants' key contributors suffered potentially serious injuries in Sunday's 19-14 loss to the Chicago Bears. Wide receiver Golden Tate entered the concussion protocol after the game. Meanwhile, safety Jabrill Peppers suffered a transverse fracture after returning a punt.

The feeling from upstairs, inside the building, is that the Giants want to find reasons to keep Pat Shurmur as the head coach, rather than look for evidence to part ways with him after only two years.

The Bears are coming off a Sunday night 17-7 loss to the Rams. They have lost 5 of their last 6 games.
The Giants were on a bye week following their 34-27 loss to the Jets. They have lost 6 straight games.

Nov 24 The Giants do not yet know for sure what they have at quarterback with Daniel Jones. But they have a pretty good idea and are awaiting confirmation. The Bears thought they knew what they had at quarterback with Mitchell Trubisky. What they are learning this season is alarming.

When the Giants blew up their wide receiving corps, trading Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns back in March and subsequently signing Golden Tate, the hope was Beckham's explosiveness and ability to take the top off a defense would be replaced by Tate making chunk plays out of high percentage passes. So far, so good.

Nov 23 Scott Simonson is going from the street to the starting lineup. Two weeks after he was fielding offers to try out for NFL teams, he will start at tight end Sunday for the injury-plagued Giants against the Bears. First assignment? Help double-team block former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack, edge rusher Leonard Floyd and the rest of a defense ranked No. 9 in yards allowed per game and No. 4 in points allowed per game.

Reflections on the coaching staff decisions and nine other thoughts ahead of the Giants Week 12 game at Chicago. It's been another frustrating year for the Giants fan base, who, for the third year in a row, don't have any meaningful football to look forward to at a time of year when the playoff race starts to take shape. Here are some random thoughts about the team's past, present, and future.

The Giants traded away Olivier Vernon in the offseason with the confidence that Lorenzo Carter would make a leap from a promising rookie season into becoming a more dominant pass rusher in Year 2. Through 10 games, that hasn't exactly panned out.

Nov 22 How Darius Slayton is helping the Giants forget Odell Beckham already. In an offseason where Gettleman unceremoniously traded Odell Beckham to the Cleveland Browns, the Giants appear to have unearthed another potential stud at the position.

This was the game Julian Love eagerly talked with Joey Ramos and Tony Lemon about, seemingly from the moment he was drafted by the Giants. Sunday's trip to Soldier Field in Chicago stood out there on the schedule as if it were arranged for the three childhood friends who met more than a decade earlier while playing youth football at the age of 9.

Nov 21 Daniel Jones is having a statistically-impressive rookie season with one notable exception. And he is determined to correct that shortcoming. The Giants' first-round draft choice has completed 63% of his passes for just under 2,000 yards and he leads all rookie quarterbacks with 15 touchdown passes. But no discussion of Jones' debut season is complete without mentioning his giveaways.
The Giants promising rookie quarterback has fumbled 13 times and lost a league-high nine of them. Coupled with his eight interceptions, Jones has turned the ball over 17 times in eight-plus games. So, yes this is a trend. An alarming one.

Nov 20 The Giants are 2-8, a season already without much left to play for with six games to go. Actually, there might be something for this team to play for on Sunday in Chicago against the Bears (besides pride). If the Bears win on Sunday, New York will be eliminated from playoff contention. In Week 12.

Giants awaiting Lorenzo Carter's 'big jump' they were counting on. Nearly halfway through his rookie contract, the answer is supposed to be a swift and unconditional "yes" when it comes to determining Lorenzo Carter's worthiness to get a second deal with the team that drafted him.

Nov 19 The Giants last played on Nov. 10 when they lost to the Dallas Cowboys. They'll play again on Sunday, Nov. 24, in their first game after a bye week, on the road against the Chicago Bears. That's 14 days for the Giants to reflect on a 2-8 start, self-scout, figure out what went wrong and try to fix it for the season's final six games.

Spencer Paysinger has Super Bowl ring stolen. The 31-year-old -- who retired in 2017 -- says the crooks took all sorts of valuables including purses, computers and one REALLY important piece of jewelry ... the Super Bowl ring.

Nov 18 Saquon Barkley is biggest disappointment of lost Giants season. Ten games into this season, Barkley has 402 rushing yards and 33 receptions. Of course, he missed three games with a high ankle sprain and has not been right in the four games since his return. It is a downer of a sophomore season thus far.

NFL News
Opinion: If Colin Kaepernick actually wants to play in NFL again, Saturday was a setback.

Nov 16 Unfortunately for the Giants, head coach Pat Shurmur's system has not built off last year's progress in which the Giants, in their final eight games of the season, averaged 358.8 yards on offense and 27 points per game, while also rushing for at least 80 yards on the ground in seven out of their last eight games.

The Giants rush defense is ranked 23rd in the league at 122.7 yards per game, but it is ranked 11th overall in rush yards allowed per play (4.05). Teams are rushing the ball against the Giants 47.3% of the time, the 4th highest rate.

Nov 15 There is no way for the Giants to salvage the Eli Manning farewell. Manning, the insider said, would view a last-start spectacle as "ceremonial nonsense" and that he has given "zero thought to that" and "he would not want any part of that." Remember in 2017, Manning stiff-armed the plan to have him start to keep his streak alive, sensing disingenuity.

NFL News
NFL rumors: Colin Kaepernick's workout may never take place after being exposed as a farce. After over three years without being granted an NFL workout, Kaepernick was given only two hours to either accept or decline the offer on Tuesday, while a select group of reporters was tipped off by the NFL days before.

Nov 14 Special Report - This week, following the destruction of the Giants by the same-stadium Jets, our Scott Landstrom takes to military battlefield jargon to describe the current condition of our team. And it's not pretty, nor by any means filled with hope. So while he had decided that this season is virtually gone, he does express hope for the 2020 schedule. You know, any port in a storm.

Nov 13 Daniel Jones heads into his first bye week similar to how Saquon Barkley went into his a year ago. Both had already broken rookie records (with more in sight), but their impressive debuts had yet to translate to team success.
Daniel Jones has already gone back close to where he grew up, but this weekend is the first time since his first NFL season started that he will actually get a few days to sit back and relax at his family home in Charlotte, N.C.

Pat Shurmur threatened changes if the Giants lost to Jets: After 10 games worth of film to study, here's a look at six players whose jobs should absolutely be on the line both for the rest of this season and beyond.

Nov 12 After throwing four touchdown passes and no interceptions, Daniel Jones deserved a better fate than losing to the Jets 34-27 Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium. What he really needed was a better team.
Daniel Jones played another game that displayed his exhilarating possibilities while also fumbling three more times, including one that was returned by the opposition for a touchdown. The promise and potential of youth is always exciting, but the growing pains associated with it, not so much.

A multistep plan to fix the Giants over the bye. The question now, as the Giants head into their bye, is how can they fix it moving forward? The roster is what it is, so that is unlikely to change that much. And contrary to the call of many fans, head coach Pat Shurmur is unlikely to be fired right now.

Game 10 Preview Giants (2-7) Jets (1-7)
Last week the Jets started off their game in Miami with a touchdown drive. They had no more after that, as the Miami Dolphins treated their loyal fans to their first win of the season, 26-18.
The Giants failed to take advantage of opportunities that came their way in their Monday night match up with the Dallas Cowboys. Settling for field goals for most of their scoring, they lost 37-18.

Nov 10 Just a few hours before the draft in Nashville this past spring, the Jets posted a video on social media that showed some of their fans decked out in Sam Darnold jerseys. The caption? "Thank you, Giants!" The implication was that the Giants, who had the second pick in the previous draft but did not select Darnold in 2018, had made a mistake that the Jets capitalized on when they grabbed the quarterback with the third selection.

Are the Giants' Daniel Jones and Jets' Sam Darnold destined to become franchise quarterbacks? The jury is still very much out on that question, as they prepare to meet Sunday, for the first time in the regular season.

Nov 9 Darnold or Jones: Which quarterback has lived up to the hype so far? In the battle for New York football supremacy this weekend, the New York Giants (2-7) face off with their MetLife Stadium neighbor Sunday, the New York Jets (1-8).

Leonard Williams has been a Giant for just over a week, but he's already getting set to face his former squad. The former sixth overall pick of the Jets in the 2015 draft will suit up for his second game as a member of Big Blue on Sunday, with his former Jets teammates and coaches on the other sideline.

Nov 8 The Giants and Jets are a combined 3-14, one year after going a combined 9-23, one year after going a combined 8-24. That's a 20-61 record over the last 2 1/2 seasons, for a "winning" percentage of .246. So no, the Giants and Jets don't match up particularly well with the rest of the professional football world right now. But how do they match up with each other?

All week, defensive lineman Leonard Williams has been giving his new Giants teammates intel on the Jets' offensive linemen. Not so much blocking or schematic tendencies - because film study generally reveals those things - but more so the personalities of the Jets' linemen.

Nov 7 Giants on Pat Shurmur's ultimatum: 'It's make or break for all of us'. There is much riding on Sunday's game when the Giants (2-7) take on the Jets (1-7), particularly for Pat Shurmur, who will try to avoid losing his 19th game in his first 26 as head coach.

The Giants have a five-game losing streak, reeling at 2-7 through nine games for the second straight season. The Jets are 1-7, just lost a game to the previously winless and trying to lose Miami Dolphins, and every week seems to bring some new and bigger embarrassment to the Jets.

The Giants sent receiver Sterling Shepard to Pittsburgh for further testing after his concussion symptoms returned last week. There is a belief Shepard, who suffered two concussions in a 28-day span, could be shut down for the rest of the season.

Nov 6 Rookie cornerback DeAndre Baker said he didn't know what went wrong -- or whom to blame -- for Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper breaking wide open on a 45-yard touchdown with 7:56 remaining in Monday night's 37-18 loss at MetLife Stadium.

Game 9 Preview Giants (2-6) Cowboys (4-3)
The Cowboys were on their bye last week, after coming off a 37-10 win over the Philadelphia Eagles the week earlier. Last week the Giants stayed close in their game in Detroit. They tried to overcome a mixture of good and bad plays, but ended up losing to the Lions 31-26.

Nov 4 The Giants will not be whole for Monday night's game against the Cowboys and the availability of wide receiver Sterling Shepard for the remainder of the season was thrust into peril Sunday with the shocking news that Shepard is back in the concussion protocol.

Nov 3 Jabrill Peppers faced a near-impossible task coming to the Giants. He replaced the team's best players on each side of the ball, arriving as the centerpiece of the Odell Beckham Jr. trade, and wearing the same number and playing the same safety position as Landon Collins.

Will Daniel Jones over Eli Manning be difference for Giants in Week 9 vs. Dallas Cowboys? Through six starts, Jones has completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 1,466 yards with 10 touchdowns and two rushing scores. He also leads the league in turnovers.

Nov 2 Dave Gettleman wants Leonard Williams on Giants for long-term. "Our goal is to sign him long-term," Gettleman said during a controlled in-house interview that was emailed to season-ticket holders and published on Giants.com.
Dave Gettleman's decision this week to bring defensive lineman Leonard Williams to the Giants can be explained by one of the general manager's core philosophies. "Big men," Gettleman said, "allow you to compete." Williams is big. He is a 6-5, 302-pound man who is a roadblock for opposing running backs and an interior tormentor to quarterbacks.

Nov 1 Daniel Jones will be the first Giants quarterback other than Eli Manning to start a game vs. Dallas since Oct. 10, 2004, when Kurt Warner led the team to a 26-10 victory in Texas Stadium.

Sam Beal is counting down days to his NFL debut. If the Giants do decide to activate Beal this week, he would have a chance to make his NFL debut on Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys.

Oct 31 Sterling Shepard's next step forward will take him off the sidelines and into the huddle. The Giants' top wide receiver reached Step 5 of the five-step NFL-sanctioned protocol for returning from a concussion.

Giants say 'special' duo of Leonard Williams, Dexter Lawrence will 'be hard to stop'. How bright could this pair's future be?
Williams said his transition to James Bettcher's defense should be just as efficient, because it is comparable to the system he played in with the Jets under Todd Bowles.

Oct 30 He knew it could happen but Leonard Williams admitted he was "a little bit shocked" when he heard the Jets - the team that made him the sixth pick in the 2015 NFL Draft - sent him to the Giants.
The team announced it has acquired lineman Leonard Williams, the sixth overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft, in a trade with the Jets, who will receive a 2020 third-round selection and a 2021 fifth round selection that could become a fourth.

Oct 29 Special Report - It is historic, this first-ever trade between the Giants and Jets (although a deal was agreed to in 1983 before it was called off at the last minute). That almost-trade involved the Jets sending a draft pick to the Giants for a center named Chris Foote, but the deal was nullified less than a week later. But this one counts.
The Giants acquired defensive end Leonard Williams from the Jets in exchange for a third-round draft choice in 2020 and a fifth in 2021. Included in the details is this: The Jets will pay $4 million of Williams' remaining $6 million salary this season.

Dave Gettleman is risking Giants ridicule with Leonard the Williams deal. This is a win for the Jets. This is a gamble, and an expensive gamble, for the Giants.
The Giants obviously think Williams has potential. They're going nowhere this season, at 2-6, so it makes no sense to trade a third-rounder and fifth-rounder for a half-year rental player.

Last Sunday, just before the first half ended, the Detroit Lions scored a touchdown to tie the game with the Minnesota Vikings. In the second half, they couldn't keep up the pace and lost to the Vikings 42-30.
The Giants trailed the entire time they played with the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. On their last drive of the game they had the opportunity to pull it out, but executed poorly and lost 27-21.

Oct 27 NFL trade rumors: These 6 Giants could be gone after Sunday's game vs. Lions. Coach Pat Shurmur will try to keep the Giants focused on Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions (and the rest of the season), knowing the roster could look dramatically different in 72 hours.

Oct 26 Janoris Jenkins wants to know where he'll be playing next week. For a second straight trade deadline, though, it is not just rumors that Jenkins could be traded. Sports Illustrated reported Thursday that Jenkins has been "shopped around some" by the Giants.

Saquon Barkley excited to face Damon Harrison. When the Giants play the Detroit Lions in Ford Field, Barkley will run into a defensive front that is anchored by his former teammate, Damon "Snacks" Harrison.

Oct 24 With the deadline six days away, NFL sources weigh in on the Giants' few tradeable assets. With a season going nowhere and the trading deadline less than a week away, nothing with Giants GM Dave Gettleman can be ruled out.

As Tuesday's NFL trade deadline approaches, left tackle Nate Solder arguably is the team's most moveable asset. The Browns reportedly are targeting the Giants - particularly Solder - for offensive line help. Solder, who comes from the Bill Belichick school of blocking out distractions, had not heard the speculation when approached at his locker after practice.

Deone Bucannon signed Tuesday with the Giants and is expected to quickly compete for a starting inside linebacker position in the 3-4 base defense and provide much-needed relief in the nickel package. The Giants had safety Jabrill Peppers moving around to pick up slack.

Oct 23 Deone Bucannon and James Bettcher are back together. Bucannon played a hybrid safety/linebacker role for the Cardinals when Bettcher was the team's defensive coordinator from 2015 to 2017. Bettcher is now doing the same job for the Giants and the team announced Bucannon's signing on Tuesday.

Odell Beckham Jr. is at odds with the NFL again, this time after the league accused him of yet another wardrobe malfunction.

Oct 22 If you are a Giants fan, it is fair for you to wonder whether Pat Shurmur is the right coach to lead you out of this desert of despair. Shurmur isn.t on the hot seat just yet, but his mandate now is threefold: Win some damn games, keep the locker room unified and, most of all, develop Daniel Jones.

Dave Gettleman vowed to rebuild the Giants. offensive line. Through 2 offseasons it has been a colossal failure. Dominance along the line of scrimmage is the backbone to a competitive football team, and it is something that the Giants have lacked for the better part of eight seasons since the red and blue confetti fell at the conclusion of Super Bowl XLVI.

Game 7 Preview Giants (2-4) Cardinals (2-3-1)
Last Sunday, the Falcons and Cardinals battled it out in Arizona. Kyler Murray passed for 340 yards and 3 touchdowns, and the team had 102 rushing yards with 1 touchdown. Atlanta had 341 yards, with Matt Ryan throwing 4 touchdowns, and his team rushing for 103 yards. It was all as close as the final score, which had the Cardinals winning 34-33.
The Giants put up a good fight after traveling to New England on a short week for a Thursday night game. Both teams could have played better, and the Giants held their own up until the third quarter. Trailing by seven points in the third quarter, a fumble by the Giants gave the Patriots an easy touchdown. The Giants couldn't recover, and ended up losing the game 35-14.

Oct 20 David Mayo is the blossoming defensive stud the Giants didn't see coming. Bring up David Mayo's name and the Giants will rave about his smarts, his desire and how seamlessly he has fit on the team. He signed a two-year contract with the 49ers in the offseason. He moved his family to the Bay Area. Then, on Aug. 31, he was cut.

Oct 19 This is a line-of-demarcation game for the Giants. They'll play the Cardinals on Sunday at MetLife Stadium as close to full strength as they've been in weeks, with running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Evan Engram back from injuries.

Oct 18 Giants set to unleash 'J.Y.D.' Markus Golden on his old team. James Bettcher is a main reason why Golden signed a one-year, $3.75 million deal with the Giants. Bettcher downplayed any emotion over playing his former team and mentioned the fond memories in Arizona. It doesn't mean he doesn't want bragging rights.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray getting sacked repeatedly early-on this season was a point of discussion. Whose fault was that? The debate often centered around whether to blame the offensive line for giving up those sacks, or whether the onus was on Murray to throw the ball away before getting hit.

Oct 17 Remember when Giants general manager Dave Gettleman insisted that he had a plan to fix what ailed the Giants? The critics had their doubts, and in fact, some even mocked the Giants 68-year old general manager for claiming he had a plan but refusing to divulge ahead of time what that plan was. But as the 2019 season continues to unfold, Gettleman's plan has slowly revealed itself.

Oct 16 Rookies get compared, especially when they meet up in the same game, and that is simply the long and short of it. The long of it for the Giants is Daniel Jones, a strapping 6-foot-5 quarterback navigating his way through his first NFL season. The short of it is Kyler Murray, a mighty mite 5-foot-10 quarterback making his way through his debut season with the Cardinals.

Former Giants
Where are they now? Tracking ex-Giants cut or traded in last 13 months | Browns' Odell Beckham, Olivier Vernon underperforming?

Oct 15 Special Report - The Giants got a little help from their friends Sunday when the New York Jets, with whom they share a stadium, beat the Dallas Cowboys. What that did was leave the Giants, at 2-4, just one game behind the Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, who are 3-3. And by no stretch are the Cowboys and Giants friends, but the Dallas failure to beat one of the worst teams in the NFL did provide a welcome boost to Pat Shurmur's team.
"Yeah, I watched a lot of football Sunday," said Shurmur, whose team, of course, played (and lost badly, but didn't play badly) to the New England Patriots last Thursday night. "But mostly, I watched Arizona. We play them Sunday (at MetLife Stadium). But I did get to see some of the other games, too." If the Giants are actually going to be part of some race in the NFC East to decide the best among a handful of mediocre teams, at least they figure to come into Sunday's game with more of their offensive weapons than previously thought.

Oct 14 The NFC East isn't exactly running away from the Giants. Even after Thursday night's 35-14 loss to the New England Patriots, the Giants have plenty to be optimistic about after the Eagles and Dallas Cowboys lost Sunday afternoon.

NFC East News
Cowboys - Panic time! Dallas Cowboys playing for survival after loss to lowly NY Jets.
Eagles - Loss to Vikings, it's hard to fault Doug Pederson's fourth down calls.
Redskins - Barely hold on against Dolphins for first win of season.

Oct 13 For a few possessions, Tom Brady had to be having Super Bowl flashbacks. He dropped back to pass and saw nothing but white Giants jerseys in his face. Instead of Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora, it was Markus Golden and Lorenzo Carter.

The Giants hired coach Pat Shurmur last year largely so he could mold quarterback Eli Manning's replacement. But if Shurmur doesn't get enough next season out of that replacement, Daniel Jones, he could be finished with the Giants, after just three seasons.

Oct 12 The Giants gave a superhuman defensive effort Thursday night (no matter the misleading final score) in a game nobody expected to be competitive for even a half. The Giants entered Gillette Stadium as 17-point underdogs, the largest number they faced since at least 1980.

So, how do we measure this? What are we to make of the Giants loss to the Patriots on Thursday night at Gillette Stadium as it pertains to how they'll do going forward? Their defense, indeed, played well, disrupting Tom Brady, who was sacked three times and intercepted once, and generally preventing him from finding a rhythm for most of the night.

Last Sunday, after allowing the Redskins to take an early first quarter lead, the Patriots got back on track. They gave up no more points and went on to win 33-7, almost an exact reflection of their average scoring over these first five games.
Things did not go well for the Giants last week in their game with the Minnesota Vikings. They lost the game 28-10, and their second leading running back, Wayne Gallman, was injured as well.

Oct 10 The Giants are 17-point underdogs and won't have three critical offensive weapons against the NFL's best defense. And Jones will be making his fourth career start against Tom Brady, who is 117-19 in regular season home games. Jones will need a huge showing from wide receiver Golden Tate and the Giants' full-strength defense in order to even keep this game close.

Oct 9 Though Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram may miss Thursday night's game, and Sterling Shepard and Wayne Gallman will be out as they deal with concussions, it looks as if Big Blue will get inside linebackers Alec Ogletree and Tae Davis back. Both practiced fully Tuesday after missing each of the last two games.

Oct 8 The Giants could be without wide receiver Sterling Shepard for several weeks, after he suffered his second concussion in five weeks Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

Game 5 Preview Giants (2-2) Vikings (2-2)
The Vikings lost last Sunday in Chicago, 16-6. The Bears defense was just too much for them. The Vikings weren't able to score until the final three minutes of the game.
Last week the Giants overcame a number of mistakes in their 24-3 win over the Washington Redskins. The defense showed up when it counted.

Oct 6 Ryan Connelly was placed on injured reserve with a torn ACL in his right knee. He had interceptions in each of the last two weeks and had taken command of the huddle with co-captain Alec Ogletree sidelined with a hamstring injury. Here are three ways how the Giants can compensate defensively for the loss of Connelly.

Oct 5 Janoris Jenkins swallowed some pride but still felt plenty hungry for redemption. The Giants' top cornerback prefers to shadow an opponent's best wide receiver no matter where he goes on the field - it's a badge of honor, really - but last week Jenkins remained on the left side of the defense no matter how the Washington Redskins lined up before the snap.

Before Daniel Jones takes a snap from center, before he throws a pass or hands off to one of his running backs, the rookie quarterback must make pre-snap reads that normally determine the success or failure of a play. And it might be the hardest part of the job for a rookie quarterback to learn. It helps to have Eli Manning as a tutor.

Oct 4 After a quiet NFL debut, Dexter Lawrence has steadily played better, assuaging some of the fears that the Giants got bamboozled in the trade that sent Odell Beckham Jr. to the Browns. Included in the package was the No. 17-overall pick in the 2019 draft, which the Giants used to take the massive Lawrence out of Clemson.

Saquon Barkley continued to amaze onlookers when he not only was running but also jumping around during the part of practice open to the media.
The miracle comeback by Saquon Barkley now seems like a matter of when -- not if. But the "when" is not likely to be this Sunday. It's much more likely to be next Thursday in New England instead.

Oct 3 Giants can't cave amid sudden Saquon Barkley return talk. Barkley is in a rush to return. The Giants should not rush him back.
Saquon Barkley was on the practice field Wednesday, running and cutting 10 days after suffering a high ankle sprain against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Oct 2 The New York Giants just added a new weapon for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones. Wide receiver Golden Tate was officially added to the active roster Tuesday following a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse polic.
To make room for Golden Tate and rookie Josiah Tauaefa, who was promoted from the practice squad, Bennie Fowler and TJ Jones were released on Tuesday. Jones muffed two punts in Sunday's win over the Redskins and received just five offensive snaps.

On Sunday, Janoris Jenkins picked off two passes. Today, he picked up the NFC Defensive Player of the Week Award. Jenkins, the Giants' eight-year veteran cornerback, was responsible for three of the team's four interceptions in its 24-3 victory against the Washington Redskins. He also had four tackles (three solo).

Oct 1 The Giants' linebacker corps took another hit Sunday when Ryan Connelly left the Washington game with a knee injury. Tests confirmed today that the promising rookie suffered a torn ACL, adding to an injury report that already included defensive co-captain Alec Ogletree and Tae Davis.

Following the Giants' 24-3 win over the Washington Redskins, Giants' head coach Pat Shurmur mentioned that the coaching staff implemented a "few tweaks" on the defensive side of the ball.

Game 4 Preview Giants (1-2) Redskins (0-3)
The Redskins lost their Monday night game to the Chicago Bears, 31-15. It wasn't their best outing. They are now 0-3, losing in their first game by 5 points, the second by 10, and this one by 16.
On Sunday the Giants didn't take the lead in the game until there were less than two minutes left. Tampa Bay's comeback failed with a missed field goal attempt. The Giants ended up with a 32-31 win, their first of the season.

Sept 29 The Giants admired and came to depend on many attributes Landon Collins brought to the field. His 22 solo tackles leads the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus. Opposing quarterbacks have targeted him 12 times and Collins has allowed 11 receptions, tied for the third-most in the league.

When trying to answer the question of why Daniel Jones is starting for the suddenly rejuvenated Giants as Dwayne Haskins lingers on the bench for the winless Washington Redskins, it's as simple as those three words. Jones made 36 career starts in a pro-style offense at Duke. Haskins made 14 career starts in a quick-read spread offense at Ohio State. Only one of those two rookie quarterbacks entered the NFL ready to start.

Sept 28 Overshadowed by Daniel Jones, this other Giants rookie already is making big plays. Darius Slayton debuted against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with three catches for 82 yards, including a 46-yarder to set up a touchdown after Daniel Jones extended the play with his feet.

When the team decided that Manning would be heading to the bench in favor of rookie Daniel Jones, head coach Pat Shurmur went as far as to reach out to Coughlin to inform him of the team's decision before it was ultimately announced.

Sept 27 Jabrill Peppers knows what the Giants' defense has to do to help Daniel Jones. Doing it will be the hard part. The Giants (1-2) have buried themselves on defense in the first-half of each of their first three games, forcing the offense to play catch-up. That has to change, otherwise Jones is going to have create miracle after miracle like he did last Sunday at Tampa Bay.

Sept 26 The Giants still have a confidence about them, even though they know they're missing their best player. They think they can survive life without Saquon Barkley, even if it turns out to be for the next two months.
Wayne Gallman will be the starter and feature back when the Giants host the Washington Redskins on Sunday. If you think the job or the moment is too big for him, you are unfamiliar with Wayne Gallman.

Former Giants
Jason Pierre-Paul is currently on track for a potential return in the second half of the season, and can return to practice after Week 6. In the meantime, he's reportedly agreed to restructure his contract in way that not only makes him a free agent after 2019 but also gives the Buccaneers much needed cap relief.

Sept 25 Daniel Jones' debut opened eyes across the NFL, but perhaps the most impressive element of an impressive first career start was the Giants' rookie quarterback's performance when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense brought extra pressure Sunday.

While Pro Football Focus rates the Giants' offensive line 14th in the NFL after three weeks, the play we saw in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has to give fans and the team pause. Daniel Jones was sacked five times that game in addition to being hit 11 times.

Sept 24 There was a "Why now?" vibe as Pat Shurmur announced one week ago he was starting Daniel Jones and benching Eli Manning. A day after Jones thrilled the Giants and their fans while making a statement heard around the NFL, another question was set on the table for the head coach: What took you so long? As in, do you wish you made this move two weeks ago, to start the season?

The Giants' fears were confirmed on Monday morning when they learned that Saquon Barkley will be out 6-8 weeks with a high ankle sprain. They're going to have to bring in a veteran running back - and one who can really play.
Saquon Barkley injury: Where do Giants turn next? Wayne Gallman? Practice squad? Top free agents available. Remember when the Giants looked flush with veteran backup running backs?

Game 3 Preview Giants (0-2) Tampa Bay (1-1)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost in their first game, but righted the ship next time out with a 20-14 win over the Carolina Panthers in a Thursday night game.
Last Sunday, the Giants followed the same script as they did the previous week. The offense scored on the first possession, and then went into hiding until it was too late. This time it was a 28-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Sept 22 NFL rules on limited contact prohibited Giants rookie cornerback DeAndre Baker from playing his preferred style during minicamp practices. But what's the explanation for it now? Are the Giants misusing Baker by not allowing him play to his strengths in games?

Daniel Jones' Giants journey is unlike any other. The story, of course, is as much about who he is replacing as how he performs. A year ago, Daniel Jones was living the perfect life of a BMOC, allowed to roam the Duke campus as a football hero and virtually unknown to the world beyond. Now, he becomes the QB1 of the New York Giants.

Sept 21 Everyone knew that the New York Giants would make the change from Daniel Jones to Eli Manning at some point this season. Few, however, were expecting the change to come so soon. After the Giants fell to 0-2 following their loss to the Buffalo Bills, the team's brass made the decision to promote Daniel Jones to the starting quarterback role.

Sterling Shepard took the hit, stumbled to the ground, struggled to get up and was "pretty sure" he had a concussion in the third quarter of the Giants' Week 1 game against the Cowboys. But the wide receiver refused to take himself out of the game, and neither the Giants nor the NFL's independent spotters saw enough to force him to the sideline.

Sept 20 So far, the Giants' defense has lived down to expectations. And that's a troubling sign as rookie quarterback Daniel Jones prepares to make his first start, Sunday at the Buccaneers. Because if defensive coordinator James Bettcher and Co. don't give Jones some help, the kid is doomed - on Sunday and beyond.

DeAndre Baker insists his confidence has not been lacking, even if his coverage has been. The Giants' rookie cornerback has taken his licks through the first two games of the season and is allowing opposing quarterbacks to record a perfect 158.3 passer rating when they throw his way.

Sept 19 Daniel Jones is confident he will succeed in his new assignment. The 22-year-old rookie will be the first quarterback to make his pro debut in a Giants uniform since the player he is replacing, Eli Manning, did so in 2004.

This may not be the end of Eli Manning. "My gut told me it was the right time, but that narrative that you don't bring Eli back, I think that's just something for us all to talk about," head coach Pat Shurmur said.

Dave Gettleman and Pat Shurmur are on the clock after creating this Giant mess with Eli Manning. Daniel Jones has more than enough on his plate before his first career NFL start to worry about what might happen if he fails.

Sept 18 Every year, there are changes made to the personnel of a pro football team, changes that often don't get more than a second glance or mention from the media. But the New York Giants decision to officially pass the quarterback torch from long-time veteran Eli Manning to rookie Daniel Jones after the team's third straight 0-2 start is the exception.

Thanks, Eli. And I know I am speaking for all Giants fans, including the ones who agree that the time has finally come for you to hand the ball over to young Daniel Jones.

Why Giants' switch from Eli Manning to Daniel Jones must be permanent -- no matter what Reversing this decision could open a door that would be difficult -- and messy -- to close.

Sept 17 Special Report - It has to happen, sooner or later, and from what the vibes were around the Giants on Monday, after the second loss in the first two games of this season, the answer seems to be sooner. We're talking about Eli Manning losing his starting job, of course, and he is no stranger to the process.
He took over in 2004 after Kurt Warner has started the first nine games of the season, and his record streak of starts didn't end until head coach Ben McAdoo decided "to see what Geno Smith could do" 211 games later against the Oakland Raiders in 2017. Now it is beginning to look as though, as early as next Sunday in Tampa, Eli will be replaced by rookie Daniel Jones.

Sept 16 Giants lose to the Bills 28-14.

Game 2 Preview Giants (0-1) Buffalo (1-0)
The Buffalo Bills got off to a good start last week with a come from behind road win over the Jets. The final score was 17-16. The Bills will be back at MetLife Stadium again this week to face the Giants.
The Giants lost in their first game to the Dallas Cowboys 35-17. The offense showed some sparks, but it was their defense that went up in flames.

Sept 15 It's all about Saquon Barkley on Sunday. It has to be for the Giants to win. It wasn't about him nearly enough in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys. It must be all about him on offense in this high-pressure home opener against the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium.

Sept 14 The names and faces have changed. The story hasn't. The Giants were the NFL's 30th-ranked team in sacks during a three-win 2017 season. They finished 31st in the category during last year's five-win campaign. They enter Sunday's matchup with the Bills as one of three teams in the league without a sack, and they pressured Dak Prescott on just 4-of-32 dropbacks.

Saquon Barkley is jumping in to save the day for a dissed Giants fan ... he just invited the little kid who was roasted by DeMarcus Lawrence to a game in November!!! 11-year-old Kamil Bautista -- a NY fan living in McAllen, Texas -- drove 9 hours with his family to watch the Cowboys play the Giants in Dallas last weekend. But, after the game when he was searching for autographs from players outside the stadium ... Lawrence blew him off, telling him his Barkley jersey was the wrong team!!!

Sept 13 Giants have to find ways to get Saquon Barkley the ball more. Shurmur often seems to fall on the side of using his brilliant players as decoys or assuming that just because opponents focus on stopping them that they actually can stop them.

The New York Giants have waited the better part of two years to feel comfortable trusting dynamic tight end Evan Engram with a major role in their offense. Now, with the departure of Odell Beckham Jr. and the spate of injuries to the Giants' wide receiving corps, the team is turning to Engram in a big way.

Sept 12 The New York Giants have waited the better part of two years to feel comfortable trusting dynamic tight end Evan Engram with a major role in their offense. Now, with the departure of Odell Beckham Jr. and the spate of injuries to the Giants' wide receiving corps, the team is turning to Engram in a big way.

Giants will get close-up look at the QB they passed on. When evaluating the quarterbacks in the 2018 draft, Pat Shurmur studied all of the top prospects. After all, the Giants owned the No. 2 overall pick and, though the front office fell in love with Saquon Barkley, the Giants did have 37-year-old Eli Manning and general manager Dave Gettleman understood the need, sooner rather than later, to find a successor.

Sept 11 The Giants did not come close to winning in Week 1, but there is no doubt they have put together a far upgraded product on their offensive line. Eli Manning was sacked one time in 44 drop backs, and that was on a poorly designed fourth-down rollout.

NFC East News
NFC East Roundup: Week 1 in the books.

Sept 10 Why does it sometimes seem like Giants head coach Pat Shurmur needs to be reminded that Barkley is on the field? Barkley was sensational in the Giants' opener on Sunday. He was also sensationally underused.

The Giants' defensive struggles were across the board. They recorded recorded no sacks and, according to Pro Football Focus, had just three quarterback hits and three hurries. There were also missed assignments. There was bad tackling. There was bad technique and execution. There were key penalties.

It suddenly appears the Giants will be going into their home opener Sunday against the Bills at MetLife Stadium without their top receiver. Sterling Shepard sustained a concussion in the season-opening 35-17 loss to the Cowboys and is in the protocol program.

Rookie cornerback Corey Ballentine didn't fly from Dallas back to New Jersey with his team Sunday night. That's because he instead flew to Kansas, to testify against the man who allegedly murdered his friend.

Sept 9 Giants lose to the Cowboys 35-17.

Game 1 Preview Giants (0-0) Cowboys (0-0)
After coming off a disastrous 3-13 season in 2017, the Giants were hopeful that a new management team would get them back on track. Finishing just two wins better, 5-11, was below expectations.
The Cowboys won the NFC East division title last season. They went on to beat the Seattle Seahawks, but things came to an end in the NFC divisional game, where they lost to the Los Angeles Rams.

Sept 8 It's not going to take long for Giants rookies Oshane Ximines, DeAndre Baker or Dexter Lawrence to realize they stepped out of the tunnel and into a new football dimension Sunday afternoon at "Jerry World," for the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

Sept 7 Daniel Jones is officially No. 2. After dazzling in the preseason, the Giants' No. 6-overall pick will take a backseat to Eli Manning when the regular season opens Sunday against the Cowboys. But he will at least be active and in uniform, something the Giants' rookie quarterbacks the past two years could not say until the final month of the season.

Sept 6 How Giants' Evan Engram was pulled out of 'dark time' into bright future by Eli Manning (and lemon pepper seasoning).

The Giants are ready to see the impact Jabrill Peppers can have in a game that counts. They've all been impressed by his personality and his athleticism, his work ethic and an overlooked part of his skill set: his football intelligence.

Sept 5 When Eli Manning looks behind him, it's not at Daniel Jones. Perhaps more than ever before, Manning has been willing in the lead-up to the 2019 season to reflect on his 15-year career until this point with the Giants. Ask a sentimental question, get a (somewhat) sentimental answer, at least by his standards.
If this is to be Eli Manning's final time walking onto the field as the Giants' starter for a season-opening game, the 38-year-old quarterback insists he is not thinking about it to any great degree. Nor is he entertaining many nostalgic thoughts about what might be the final phase of his 16-year career.
He has already played more games than any player in Giants history and when he takes his first snap on Sunday, Eli Manning will become the first to play 16 seasons with the franchise.

NFC East News
NFC East preview and predictions: Eagles and Cowboys battle for dominance.

Sept 4 The Giants have begun their on-field preparation for the defending NFC East champion at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center before their trip to AT&T Stadium. Here are five storylines heading into Week 1.

Saquon Barkley was chosen by his peers as one of the seven team captains for the 2019 season, an honor rarely bestowed on individuals after only one year on the job.

Sept 2 The Giants were not as active on the waiver wire as they were last season, but they did receive two claims: former Bengals wide receiver and special teams contributor Cody Core and former Jets offensive tackle Eric Smith.
Reggie White Jr. is ready for the next chapter of his underdog story in the NFL. The former Monmouth star wide receiver has re-signed with the Giants, this time as a member of their practice squad after clearing waivers Sunday afternoon.

Former Giants
Kyle Lauletta - The Philadelphia Eagles decided to move on from 2019 fifth-round pick Clayton Thorson by signing the Giants 2018 fourth-round pick Kyle Lauletta to their practice squad instead.

Sept 1 Special Report - It probably won't stay this way for much longer than 24 hours, but the Giants released their "official" 53-man roster for the 2019 season on schedule, 4 p.m. Saturday. Perhaps most surprising was the release of quarterback Kyle Lauletta, who threw the dramatic last-second 15-yard touchdown pass last Thursday night in New England to forge the 31-29 victory over the Patriots.
Instead, general manager Dave Gettleman and head coach Pat Shurmur chose to keep four-year journeyman Alex Tanney as the third quarterback, although he'll almost surely wind up on the practice squad. While Lauletta, a fourth-round draft pick in 2018, was the most notable casualty, the overall shredding of almost half the roster left questions at several positions.
