Notes: "You have to be a real football
fan to go to the 4th preseason game just to see subs from both teams banging heads,
but if you did, you sure got more out of this one than you expected. There were
a lot of no shows in the stands, and sure, the starters became no shows on the
field real fast, but guess what? This game was fun to watch. Brandon Jacobs
was the star of the show, with his 57 yard touchdown run to help tie the score
in the first quarter. He finished the day with a total of 130 yards, 2 touchdowns,
and 2 catches. He certainly will be able to spell Tiki Barber this season much
better than last, and keep him fresh. Jared Lorenzen was the quarterback for
most of this game, and he delivered, looking more comfortable than a second string
quarterback should. Jared did fumble a snap in the shotgun, but shook it off and
led the Giants to two scoring drives before his day was over. He is likely our
backup quarterback for the season. There seems to be a lot of talent on this
Giants team, because even as the game wore on, you still recognized players on
the field. That's because they have stood out in these preseason games. Maybe
that's why we won them all. Maybe that's what we needed last year to finish things
off - skilled players you can count on throughout the ranks."
Game Notes:
"It was the fourth preseason game
and all, but you could see that these were two well coached teams on the field.
You wouldn't expect less from Bill Belichick and Tom Coughlin, and the level of
play kept this one interesting. The
Giants seem to be cycling the secondary players and backups onto the field as
much as possible. That gives them needed experience and makes them very effective
filling in for starters in case of injuries. It also keeps sideline attentions
high and the whole team feels like they're in it, even if they have a smaller
role. Gamegirl already mentioned the aspect of Brandon Jacobs getting more
playing time. Maybe they unveiled him one week too soon. Jared Lorenzen also showed
that maybe the Giants could pull Eli Manning late in a game with a big lead to
keep him out of harms way. They couldn't even have thought of that possibility
a year ago. Coughlin and his crew look like they really have things coming together
this year." Early

Notes: Giants
completed their first unbeaten exhibition season since 1990. Giants won the
Super Bowl that season. The NFL
has changed its eligibility rules for practice squads - a third year has been
added. That affects Giants wide receiver Michael Jennings and linebacker
Nick McNeil. Both have spent two seasons on practice squads.
