Game Notes:
"Usually when they say a team doesn't show up for a game, they're talking about the players not having intensity or drive. In this game the actual players were missing. We did have Eli Manning back, but the list of no-shows ran deep and of course it did effect the gameplay. These guys are trying to develop some cohesion and confidence while they shake off the rust of not having played at real game intensity for a long while and they did not accomplish that tonight.
Things started off good. On the second play of the game, Justin Tuck sacked Joe Flacco and Baltimore was three and out. The Giants did no better on their three plays and Flacco had the ball in what proved to be his dangerous hands again. Once again, a sack, this time by Rockey Bernard, but still Flacco took his team from his 29 yard line to the Giants 6 and they scored first with a field goal. He used a no huddle offense on almost every play so far, and it was working against our defense.
Manning had to start at the Giants 11 yard line thanks to a poor kickoff return and he got the team down to the Baltimore 15 and that's where things stalled. They couldn't make a 2nd and 1, a 3rd and 1, or a 4th and 1. Even though it failed, I was glad that Tom Coughlin chose to go for it. If some of these offensive line players end up in the regular season as starters or in different positions, they have to learn how to make short yardage plays.
Anyway, things never got better for the Giants in this game. Baltimore scored touchdowns on their next two drives. They scored another in the fourth quarter, and the only excitement left was watching Victor Cruz on the playing field. Rhett Bomar hit him with a touchdown pass right near the end of the game.

Game Notes:
"What can you expect with center Shaun O'Hara out and with Rich Seubert replacing him and playing with a broken hand after missing the first two games himself? They were assisted by guard Chris Snee also playing for the first time and he's sporting a suspect knee. Eli Manning couldn't have been really comfortable with this front line. On top of that he also missed playing time last week, and Manning left the game completing just half of his 18 passes for only 63 yards and one interception.
Also back after missing a game,
Brandon Jacobs looked bruising on some of his runs. It would have been nice to see what he would have done with those two passes tossed his way if he had caught them. Still, the group of running backs had totaled only 149 yards to date in two games, and they stayed at just about that same low average in this game.
The defense let Joe Flacco walk all over them. By the end of the half, he had completed 20 of his 32 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns. He was on the way to more when Corey Webster intercepted him in the final minute of the second half and returned it 37 yards to the Baltimore 32 yard line. Even being spotted two thirds of the football field, with 32 seconds left, the offense had to settle for a field goal to end the half.
On special teams the return game is no better, but Matt Dodge continues to improve. The Giants have only two weeks to become regular season game ready. They may be lucky that they drew Carolina for that first game. The Panthers offense hasn't done well although they do have a tough defense. Still it's probably better than hitting a team that's strong on both sides of the ball or a tough division rival, because this group needs more time.
