Game Notes:
"It was great to see the starters out there playing for more than
just a quarter of a game. Brett Favre did pretty good in his first preseason
game last week against Washington and I was anxious to see how our Giants
defense would do against him tonight. The Jet fans were probably pretty
anxious about it too considering how the Giants knocked out Cleveland's
quarterback Derek Anderson last week. For quarterback protection, the
Jets improved their front line this season, bringing in two top players,
but they don't yet have much game experience playing with each other as
a unit.
Anyway, the Giants sacked Farve once and held his group scoreless in the
first half that he played in. Some of that sucsess was with the helping
hand of the Jets who kept drawing yellow flags time after time, including
one that recalled a Brett Favre touchdown. There wasn't much scoring overall
and the Jets edged us out by three points, but the worst thing that happened
wasn't losing this preseason game to the Jets. It was seeing Osi Umenyiora
coming off the field in the second quarter with a leg injury. Let's hope
for the best on that."
Game Notes:
"Last week the tight ends
for the Giants had no catches. They needed to see if they could improve
on that but it was the same story tonight. With kicker Lawrence Tynes
may not make it back for the season opener, and Josh Huston had to show
that he could handle that job. He had an extra point tipped and he missed
a 42-yard field goal attempt last week against Cleveland, and he didn't
help his case this game, banging one off the goalpost in a 42 yard attempt.
David Carr also didn't look as sharp as he did last week. He took 4 sacks,
but in his defense, all three quarterbacks went down in this game including
Eli Manning taking 3. They'll have to sort out the whos and whys on all
that because the Jets came away with 8 sacks. The Jets were penalty happy
as they were sack happy pulling in 12 total, including three straight
in their opening second half possesion. Somehow that drive ended up in
a touchdown as they slowly moved the ball down the field taking up 9:13
of the clock on 16 plays.
Overall the Giants defense did alright. They held the Jets to 10 points
and came away with one interception. The Jets were only able to convet
three of their thirthteen 3 rd downs. On the other side of that coin,
the Giants 3rd down efficiency was only 4-13 and they let the Jets get
to the quarterback at will."
