Game Notes:
"Last week was fine if you managed to get tickets to the Giants - Jets game, but seeing 'New Meadowlands Stadium' decked out in blue was way much better. Now you get to sit in your regular Giants designated seats and you have to make sure you're on time for these preseason games because the starters don't get many reps before they're yanked. Brandon Jacobs didn't even play, and I think there was only about two minutes off the game clock before Hakeem Nicks gained the distinction of being the first Giant ever ejected from a game in the new stadium.
The Giants surely were at a disadvantage considering that their starting (and only) quarterback was third stringer Rhett Bomar, who had never played in a regular season game. The Steelers had two time Super Bowl winner Ben Roethlisberger. Still, by the time Big Ben (under regular season suspension - but somehow not preseason suspension) left the game in the second quarter, the Giants defense nailed him for one interception and the score was just 3-0 in favor of the Steelers. The Giants went ahead 7-3 on their very next possession.
They couldn't hold that lead into the half
and didn't score again until the fourth quarter when the Steelers defense was more watered down with rookie players. Unfortunately next week, when Eli Manning is hopefully back and starters get to play longer, is an away game and in the home game after that starters barely play. So the next real football action you'll get to see in person will be the grand opening of the stadium for the regular season on September 12 against Carolina."

Game Notes:
"Without Eli Manning and Jim Sorgi, Rhett Bomar got a chance to be the star of the show for the Giants. He hung in the entire game, completing exactly half his passes and throwing one interception that really bounced off the hands of Mario Manningham. Maybe if the timing or connection was slightly better that wouldn't have happened. Bomar also dangerously scrambled a few times to pick up first downs on two occasions.
Bomar's competition on the Steelers offense was a combination of
Ben Roethlisberger, Byron Leftwich and Dennis Dixon, and they gave the Giants defense a good workout. Corey Webster had a nice interception. Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck, and Mathias Kiwanuka made their presence known on passing and running plays. Keith Bulluck and Kenny Phillips were on the field for the first time this year. Punter Matt Dodge looked only a little better in this game. Andre Brown did well on kickoff returns and Aaron Ross had a 45-yard return. Baltimore will be a real good test for the Giants next week. "

Giants Eli Manning missed a game for the first time since Sept. 1, 2005, a preseason game against New England. Manning has started 87 consecutive regular season games.

Giants have four Pro Bowl offensive linemen on their roster: Shaun O'Hara, Chris Snee, David Diehl and Shawn Andrews.

Giants running back Brandon Jacobs didn't play because of a stiff neck.

Giants safety Antrel Rolle and running back Ahmad Bradshaw did not start as scheduled.
They arrived late for a team meeting and Tom Coughlin delayed their starts in the game.

Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks and Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor were ejected after they exchanged punches on the field.
