Notes: "It was gigantic. It
was big, and more amazing than I had imagined. I was totally overwhelmed. No,
not the new stadium built to honor Jerry Jones or the Cowboys or whatever. I'm
talking about the Giants win over the Cowboys tonight in the super grand opening
of their new stadium. A victory that puts the Giants atop the NFC East. Right
now, the Cowboys, Redskins and floundering Eagles are looking at the Giants and
saying, 'Oh no. not them again'. They do have reason to worry, because how
do you go about attacking this Giants team? Stop the running game, and give in
to the young talented group of wide receivers, or cover them, and let Brandon
Jacobs and company run all over you? They've made their choices these past two
games, and we'll see next week how Tampa Bay decides to play it. Now here's
some of my unofficial stats for the new stadium: 1st points scored - Giants. 1st
field goal scored - Giants. 1st interception - Giants. 1st interception
returned for a touchdown - Giants. 1st team to have a lead at the end of the
first quarter - Giants. 1st team
to have a lead at the end of the second quarter - Giants.
1st touchdown scored - Cowboys but 1st team to go 3-out - Cowboys. 1st
team to have turned the ball over on successive plays - Cowboys. 1st person
caught on screen picking their nose - Cowboy owner Jerry Jones. Most important
- 1st win at the new stadium - Giants."
Game Notes: "So
far this season two division opponents have proven that they can stop the run
and then go on to lose the game. By the way, that prompts me to say that the Giants
now happen to lead the division teams with their 2-0 record. Last season Plaxico
Burress was drawing double coverage. Coming up against the Cowboys back then,
Burress had just six catches for just 39 yards (and one touchdown) in the two
games prior and Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips promised to double-team Burress
virtually every play. Plaxico said, "If that's what defenses want to do, that's
going to be their approach I'm going to line up and see what we get. We'll work
around it. I honestly believe you don't have to go out week in and week out and
put up gaudy numbers and dominate a football game." Plaxico was a team player
and Brandon Jacobs is in the same spot this year. Teams know that the Giants
game plan on offense is centered around a relentless running attack that piled
up league-best averages of 157.4 yards per week and five yards per attempt last
season. Like Plaxico, Jacobs knows that wins count the most over individual performances
as they go all out to stop him and assume they can also stop Eli Manning and his
unproven group of young receivers. So how's that working out?" Early
