"At the end of last season I said that you could only wonder what things might have been like if the special teams unit didn't lose Hixon right from the start, and if the starting offensive line had stayed intact, and if a whole group of starting receivers didn't end up on injured reserve. I felt that Eli Manning's play would have been better, as he instead was forced to try to make something out of nothing way too many times. Also that the running game would have functioned better if their was consistency on the line and in the passing game.
That said, going into tonight's game. I don't know if the word 'consistency' was something to be excepted after dealing with this strange NFL offseason. Tonight the Giants lost to a team that finished 2-14 and played without five of their starters. Not very encouraging. At least the team has nine days to work things out before the next game"

"The Giants overcame quite a bit last year to finish up with a 10-6 record and that wasn't good enough to get them into the playoffs. This season seems to be starting as another 'lot to overcome season' because of the way they're managing the business. One big thing you get by re-signing your own free agents is that they're familiar with the system and the players they interact with. Their strengths and weaknesses and what plays work well against the opponents is well known.
With the lack of offseason training, this becomes a tough season to break in new starters and expect good results. The Giants tried to sign free agents with chump change, and that really didn't work. Now they have to hope that the team they field doesn't have a lot of 'chumps' on it. Players stepping up will have to be counted on to be fast learners as well as good performers. Except for Jason Pierre-Paul, it didn't happen tonight."
