Game
Notes: "If you came out to the game
tonight you certainly got your moneys worth. All four quarterbacks played, and
I'm not sure, but it sure looked like every receiver on the roster caught a pass.
Because of the loss of starters Amani Toomer, Plaxico Burress and Derrick Ward,
you knew a lot of player names way deep into the depth chart with the thorough
news coverage on their possible replacements. All the talent on the defense has
also been mentioned, so it added to the excitement of this preseason game. I did
miss John Carney in this game especially when Lawrence Tynes missed that first
field goal, but he did make up for it later. Feagles made a heads-up play
when he kicked the ball out of the endzone when it was blocked. That kept the
score at 7-2. I don't know why Carolina was able to block it so easy. Ahmad Bradshaw
sure made his touchdown run exciting, as he got tackled, he made sure to spike
the ball on his way down. It was nice to see Michael Strahan hanging around. He
brings back some great memories. Overall this game, the offense and defense and
special teams looked sharp and there was an exciting finish." I can't wait
until next week when the Giants play at Chicago."
Game Notes:
"It
was just the first preseason game, but it was football at last and it turned out
to be good football. Many rookies wanted to make a lasting impression and they
did including Tommie Hill who alertly won the game for the Giants with a fumble
recovery touchdown with no time left. It was a competitive game from start to
finish and if you're a Giants fan you enjoyed that they held the lead all the
way down to when Carolina tied it up with less than a minute to go. Then after
the Giants went 3-and-out, Carolina took over at their own 18 yard line. Leger
Douzable knocks the ball loose from Carolina quarterback Hunter Cantwell, who
had just tied the game with his 88-yard drive and a two point conversion. Tommie
Hill grabbed it in the air and took it in to the endzone. It was a nice finish
for this first preseason game. Being in the stadium was probably better than
watching at home early on with the distracting news crawl moving along the bottom
of the set. Between watching Mario Manningham make a nice punt return, pulling
in a nice catch (negated by penalty) and then dropping one, that crawl kept grabbing
your attention. ' - Rumored Brett Favre will be back and playing by the third
preseason game with Minnesota - Donovan McNabb says he and Michael Vick will be
on the field at the same time and he might be a receiver or tight end - Raider
head coach punched an assistant head coach - ' It looks like tomorrow's headlines
will be lots of fun even without mention of this Giants game, but it will be mentioned. Anyway,
the game drew you back when you saw Brandon Jacobs run for 13 yards and then he
followed that up with a 22 yard catch. Ahmad Bradshaw ran for 1 yard before Manning
hit Hixon for 18 yards, and Ahmad Bradshaw ran it in for a 19 yard touchdown.
With Lawrence Tynes extra point, the Giants were up 7-0. Running back Danny
Ware made a nice impression with his two catches for 43 yards and a touchdown.
At the end of this game, you feel a bit confident with the running game, still
don't know who the best receivers are, and Lawrence Tynes always makes you worry."

Notes: Defensive
coordinator Bill Sheridan said in the offseason he would coach from the box atop
the stadium but he was on the sideline Monday night. Eli
Manning threw only three passes, completing two. Jeff
Feagles had a second-quarter punt blocked when the Giants had only 10 men on the
field. Feagles saved a touchdown by knocking the ball out of the end zone
for a safety. Osi Umenyiora got
off to a good start with a sack and forced fumble after missing all of last year. Giants
defense sacked Panthers quarterbacks four times and forced five turnovers. Next
