win over the Buccaneers 32-18. Eli Manning was 26 of 40 for 213 yards with
2 INTs and 2 TDs. Rashad Jennings rushed for 48 yards on 13 carries and caught
1 pass for -1 yards. Andre Williams rushed for 30 yards on 7 carries and caught
1 pass for 7 yards. Orleans Darkwa rushed for 23 yards on 6 carries. Shane
Vereen rushed for 14 yards on 6 carries and caught 4 passes for 29 yards and 1
TD. Odell Beckham Jr.
caught 9 passes for 105 yards.. Rueben Randle caught 5 passes
for 40 yards and 1TD. Will Tye caught 2 passes for 19 yards. Jerome
Cunningham caught 2 passes for 10 yards. Myles
White caught 1 pass for 3 yards. Dwayne
Harris caught 1 pass for 1 yard. Jasper Brinkley recovered a fumble. Trevin
Wade recovered two fumbles and returned one for a touchdown. Josh Brown kicked
35, 35, 53, and 44 yard field goals. Game
Notes: "I can't believe things
started with Eli Manning throwing an interception on the very first play of the
game. Manning's pass to Odell Beckham Jr. bounced off his hands and was immediately
grabbed up by a Tampa Bay defender. Luckily, Dwayne Harris shoved him out of bounds
and that helped save a touchdown, but before the game was even two minutes old,
the Giants were already down 3-0. Eli did much better on his next drive, which
ended with a field goal to tie the score. Then right away, the defense let Tampa
Bay quarterback Jameis Winston complete a 68 yard pass to Mike Evans. To their
credit, they defended the red zone once again and held them to a field goal. So
another two minutes and another score for Tampa Bay to give them the lead back
6-3. It looked like this was going to be one of those back and fourth games, especially
after Manning took the guys down the field and got the ball to Rueben Randle for
a touchdown. So the Giants were up 10-6 and I wondered what the Bucs were
going to do next with their two minutes. Well this time running back Doug Martin
fumbled the ball over. Manning had only 28 yards to cover to add more points,
and he did, with a four yard pass to Shane Vereen. The Bucs took it slower on
their next drive, moving the ball downfield, but they missed on a 43 yard field
goal attempt. They managed to make one next time right before the end of the half
and the score was 17-9 in the Giants favor. Tampa Bay got the ball to start
off the third quarter and a few plays in their other running back, Charles Sims,
fumbled. The Giants got a field goal off that and with the score at 20-9 it looked
like they were taking control of the game. Of course, the Bucs scored a field
goal and a touchdown before the Giants put up any points, and now it looked instead
like one of those games where the Giants were going to blow a fourth quarter lead.
They were up by two and added another field goal for an uncomfortable five point
lead and Tampa Bay was up next. The defense held them and they had to punt. Manning
managed a nice long clock killing drive that ended with a field goal and an eight
point lead with only 28 seconds left on the clock. Still, with the Giants you
never know. Tampa Bay tried lateralling the ball around on their last play and
turned it over to Giants cornerback Trevin Wade who ran five yards for a touchdown.
The Giants won the game with a 32-18 score, and we can watch them play at home
next week against the Patriots." Game
Notes: "Last week Eli Manning had
a career high six touchdown passes and no interceptions and lost the game. Today
it was 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, including one on his first play of the
game, and he won. Odell Beckham Jr. was his main target for almost half his passes,
with 17 out of 40 being aimed at him. Beckham pulled in 9 for 105 yards. Rueben
Randle caught all five and Shane Vereen all four and each had one touchdown. The
four running backs, Rashad Jennings, Andre Williams, Shane Vereen and Orleans
Darkwa did better than they did last week, combining for 113 yards on 32 carries.
The defense had to unexpectedly rush onto the field after Eli Manning threw
an interception on the first play of the game. They found themselves at their
13 yard line and did a nice job holding the Bucs to just a field goal under those
circumstances. Jason Pierre-Paul looked good in his first game back. He was in
for most of the plays and although he didn't have a sack, you could see he was
generating some real good pressure up front. The defense had no sacks throughout
the game, but there were no touchdown passes thrown on them. The only one scored
by Tampa Bay on the whole day was when rookie quarterback Jameis Winston ran for
ten yards into the endzone. They held running back Doug Martin at bay, as well
as Charles Sims except for one time. When Tampa Bay got the ball for the first
time in the fourth quarter Sims ran for 59 yards from his 13 yard line. That's
the drive Winston capped off with his touchdown run and it brought the score to
20-18 in favor of the Giants. The Giants did not win this game by a big margin
and the final score of 32-18 only looks comfortable because of that last play
touchdown. Winston would have posted much better numbers if wide receiver Mike
Evans hadn't dropped five passes on him that would have continued some drives
or led to a score. They still connected for 8 passes for 152 yards. If you pay
attention to box scores, it's interesting that when the Giants took a knee instead
of kicking for the extra point that they didn't need, it counts as a 'Two-Point
Run Conversion Failed'. Anyway, the Giants, even with their weak secondary,
were able to add another win to stay atop of the NFC East. The good news is that
JPP looks like he'll be able to be a good asset for the rest of the year. The
bad news is that tackle Johnathan Hankins, one of the best players on the defensive
line, was hurt and looks to be out for a while. That's a concern since the Patriots
are continuing to play winning football. They won earlier today against Washington,
and are up next before the Giants get their bye week."
