Notes: "In the first half, you didn't
mind the rain and getting wet with the way the Giants were playing. The Bears
looked like they were lost, and the Giants defense was awesome right up until
about the two minute mark. Watching Luke Petitgout and Sam Madison leave the game
injured, after seeing some strange coaching calls like that failed 52 yard field
goal attempt run back by the Bears, it felt real chilly sitting and waiting for
something good to happen. The Giants lost any edge they had in the first half,
and the only good thing that happened was when they put together a quick drive
near the end of the third quarter. They were only four points down after the Brandon
Jacobs touchdown run. I don't know why we went for that 52 yard field goal. There
was still about 12 minutes left in the game. The odds of making it probably weren't
very good, and missing it would give the Bears good field position. Our defense
was struggling to hold them as it was, and as it turned out, it was a disaster.
Let's hope we do much better next game against the Jaguars."
Game Notes:
"You
knew that the Eagles and Cowboys had won their games today before the Giants set
foot on the field to try and extend their five-game winning streak. The players
who started on defense for all the regular injured starters fooled you into thinking
that they were somehow almost as good, but they couldn't keep it up for the whole
game. The turning point for them was when Sam Madison re-injured his hamstring
and had to leave the game. The offense needed to step it up and put some
real points on the board. They had been making plays, but their turning point
seemed to be when Luke Petitgout left the game with a broken leg. The Chicago
pass rush improved right after that. Coughlin will be answering a bunch of questions
this week about some of the plays he called, and about all the injuries. You have
to wonder why Tiki Barber wasn't interspersed with Brandon Jacobs at some point,
especially after Tiki hurt his hand. Jacobs had only two short yardage carries
(both for touchdowns) in this game. You didn't see Jeremy Shockey or Tim Carter
involved very much in the passing game. I'd say that the Giants would have won
this one if they didn't have those two injuries, and if the coaching was better
in the second half." Early

had won the last 11 games in which they scored first. Eli
Manning's streak of throwing a touchdown pass for 12 consecutive games was broken. Tiki
Barber's 46-yard run in the third quarter was his longest of the season. Derrick
Ward took over for Chad Morton as the kickoff returner and had seven returns for
152 yards, a 21.7-yard average. Left
tackle Luke Petitgout left the game with 1:41 remaining in the first quarter with
a fractured left fibula. Bears
Devin Hester tied the NFL record for longest return (108 yards) set by his teammate
Nathan Vasher, against the 49ers last year. Next
