Game
Notes: "Neither team had scored
a touchdown by the end of the first half, but the Giants were up 12-0 on four
field goals by Josh Brown. Eli Manning had made some good throws and they were
running the ball better than last week, but they couldn't crack the Eagles redzone
for a touchdown. Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy were getting nowhere against the
Giants defense and Antrel Rolle was on a roll. He had an interception and a sack.
Things changed when Matt Barkley came in the game because Vick's hamstring
was bothering him or he was told that it was bothering him. Either way Vick was
on the bench. Suddenly Barkley had the Eagles on the move down to the Giants 2
yard line when Terrell Thomas stopped him cold. They were threatening to score
and Thomas got a sack fumble that Jacquian Williams recovered. In the third
quarter neither team scored, but you could see that Barkley was doing a better
job with the offense than Vick. The Giants got another field goal in the fourth
quarter to make it 15-0. Then with about four minutes left on a punt Zak DeOssie
snapped the ball way over Steve Weatherford's head and the Eagles recovered it
and got a touchdown to make it 15-7. The game came down to the Giants having
to recover an onside kick, and then after that with the Eagles having the ball
at their own 16 yard line with 27 seconds left, Will Hill ended all the drama
by intercepting Barkley's long pass
at the Giants 38 yard line. Now the Giants have won two in a row, and we'll just
have to see how the other teams in the division do."
Game Notes: "In
a game where the Giants scored no touchdowns and the Eagles scored one it turned
out to be a good thing. The Giants won the game 15-7 with multiple field goals.
It's not that the Giants offensive was pathetic, it's just that they turned that
way whenever they entered the red zone. Eli Manning did have a few 'almost touchdown'
catches. The balls were caught but just out of bounds. Once again I'll go
back to my theory that Tom Coughlin angered the football gods when he tried to
rename 'red zone' to 'green zone' and they get their laughs whenever they see
fit. This was one of those times but they spared him a loss. They also decided
to spice up the NFC East a bit by making things a bit tighter all the way around.
We don't know what the football gods have against Tony Romo, but his division
leading Cowboys suffered a jolting last second loss in Detroit. In this game
the Giants showed they can muster up some offense and the defense has been playing
very well, stopping quarterbacks and top runners. The offense had control of the
ball for over 38 minutes and the defense came up with 2 interceptions and 4 sacks.
I don't know where the Eagles are at.
Both their experienced quarterbacks are either injured or inept, and their rookie
has most of his drives ending in turnovers."
