Giants lose their third game
in a row to the Eagles 40-17. Eli Manning was 20 of 39 for 222 yards and
1 TD and 2 INTs. Brandon Jacobs rushed for 86 yards on 20 carries
and caught 2 passes for 21 yards. Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 21 yards
on 9 carries and 1 TD. Kevin Boss caught 3 passes for
70 yards and 1 TD. Steve Smith caught 8 passes for 68 yards. Hakeem
Nicks caught 4 passes for 53 yards. Derek Hagan caught
2 passes for 7 yards. Domenik Hixon caught 1 pass for 3 yards.
Osi Umenyiora and Bruce Johnson each had 1 sack. Lawrence Tynes kicked a 42
yard field goal and missed on a 47 yard attempt. Game
Notes: "The Giants were 2-0 against
the NFC East teams and really needed to win this one to stay ahead of the pack.
Unfortunately they didn't perform even up to the most hopeful fans expectations.
Without a Plaxico Burress on the team
and with Philadelphia blitzing as much as they tend to do, it was up to Steve
Smith, Mario Manningham and Hakeem Nicks to get open in coverage before the pocket
collapsed on Eli Manning and he either scrambled or turned to mulch. Steve Smith
did it the best and it was surprising that even with the Eagles keying in on him,
he was still making catches late in the game. Kevin Boss came up with the
most receiving yards on just 3 catches and he caught the only touchdown pass that
Manning had in this game. For the record, Eli scrambled (3 runs) more than he
was mulched (2 sacks) and he picked up 34 yards running 3 times. Ahmad Bradshaw
only gained 21 yards on his 9 carries. The
only good news is that the Eagles, who by the way are undefeated in the division,
host the Cowboys next week. So you can expect a loss to go somewhere good."
Game Notes:
"Well the Eagles were without Brian
Westbrook this game, but no problem. Within the first minute and a half they were
up 7-0. Before four minutes the score was 13-0 thanks to a blocked extra point
attempt. Normally with the way things go between these two teams that block attempt
could have been an ominous sign for the Eagles but not today. You knew everything
was going their way when Justin Tuck knocked a Donovan McNabb pass up in the air
and it was McNabb who got it back into his hands and ran it for a one yard gain.
You knew it was probably over when Domenik Hixon fumbled the second-half kickoff
back into the Eagles hands and the score quickly became 33-7. The Giants were
hardly playing a crisp game here. With
three losses in a row, a losing streak becomes a slump, and that's very uncharacteristic
of how the Giants have played under Tom Coughlin in recent years. The way the
team played today, this is going to be a tough week for everyone, the coaches
calling plays and the players, preparing for the Chargers while staring at the
possibility of losing four in a row going into the bye week." Early
