Oct 19, 8:30 pm - Giants at Eagles
Giants
lose to the Eagles 27-7. Game
Notes: Game Notes: "The Eagles started at 0-2 and after six games now lead in the NFC East. That sounds like a big headline, but just last week it was - The Giants started 0-2 and after five games lead the division. Such is this 'cement mixer mess' of teams that make up the NFC East, and that's why the fans love them. It doesn't say much for the Giants offense that Eli Manning, with his one scrambling run for 12 yards, ended up being the second leading rusher in the game. Andre Williams and Shane Vereen combined for only 6 yards, and that's not a misprint. It's all they could manage on 9 carries. Rashad Jennings did much better, averaging 4.8 yards a carry 13 times for 63 yards. He also caught three passes for 20 yards, but it wasn't all good though as Jennings fumbled the ball away after one of those catches to kill a drive on the Eagles side of the field. Manning started off hot hitting four different receivers in his opening drive for a score, and he completed his first ten passes before things went bad. His next pass was intercepted and then a fourth-and-inches attempt was stuffed by the Eagles. Next there was a pick-six interception on Manning before Jennings fumbled the ball away on the next possession. All this led to the Eagles holding a 17-7 lead at halftime. After the break you hoped that the Giants would get their act together after making those mistakes. It was encouraging that Odell Beckham Jr. seemed healthy on the field and that he had caught all seven passes Manning threw to him in the first half. Unfortunately Beckham became an afterthought or was maybe too well covered in the second half. He was targeted only once for an incompletion. Some of that was likely due to the pressure Manning was under that seemed to increase as the game wore on. The offensive line allowed four sacks and several quarterback hits. With the offense stumbling, the defense wore out and the Eagles were able to score more points and cake walk their way to 425 yards and 24 first downs and even with Bradford throwing 3 interceptions, they ended with a 27-7 win. Despite his first half fumble, Jennings was the most effective running back during this game and the fact that Tom Coughlin decided to bench him for a period of time right after that, didn't help his offense very much. Coughlin also seemed to miss an opportunity to avoid a fourth-and-inches play that they failed to convert. It looked as if Jennings forward progress on the previous play had given him a first down. All Coughlin had to do was ask for a measurement, and Jennings run would have been revisited by the TV crew for a look at challenging the spot. So add his coaching into this messy mix of a loss. The Giants are certainly capable of playing much better than what they did in this game. So now the NFC East sits with the Giants and Eagles tied at 3 wins and 3 losses. The Cowboys are coming off their bye week anxious to get to that same number next Sunday at the Giants expense."
Notes: Giants have not rushed for at least 100 yards in any of their first six games. Giants are the only NFL team without a 100 yard rushing game this season. Giants 166 passing yards was their lowest since they had 144 against the Lions in 2013 Giants are now 23-36-1 on Monday Night Football. Giants scored an opening drive touchdown and added no points for the first time since 2006. Eagles DeMarco Murray, with 109 yards, is the first to run for more than 100 yards against the Giants since they gave up 121 yards to DeMarco Murray when he played for Dallas in 2014.Next Games Oct 25 - Cowboys at Giants Giants Tickets - Buy or Sell Nov 1 - Giants at Saints Giants Tickets - Buy or Sell |
