Game
Notes: "With
all the papers talking about Atlanta's inexperienced offensive line, it was a
surprise to see them take their opening drive downfield against the Giants and
score with a Morten Andersen field goal. On the other hand, our offense, which
usually doesn't get started until the second half, took their opening drive in
for a touchdown. We had a 7-3 lead. But once again Atlanta surprised you,
coming right back with a touchdown of their own in just 18 seconds. After the
kick, Jerious Norwood ran 67 yards from scrimmage on the Falcons first play. What
was happening here? It looked like the Giants were taking Atlanta for granted.
Anyway, our offense didn't let them keep their 10-7 lead. Eli Manning led
a nice drive that ended with Reuben Droughns taking it in for a 1 yard touchdown.
Things settled down after that and even though 24 total points went up in the
first quarter, only 17 more were scored, spread over the final three, all of them
by the Giants."
Game
Notes: "This
was a game you knew the Giants should win, and they did. The Giants defense unexpectedly
let Atlanta tag them right away for 10 points before they finally woke up, but
then they settled down and played as they should. They allowed Atlanta only 14
first downs, got 4 sacks on Joey Harrington, and held the Falcons to only 284
yards of offense. Eli Manning was hot out of the gate with his first two scoring
drives. He spread the action around, and Jacobs, Moss, Ward, Burress, Toomer,
and Shockey all gained yards on that opening drive featuring Toomer's second catch
for a touchdown. On Manning's second series, he ran Jacobs, passed to Burress,
Shockey, and Toomer before handing the ball of to Reuben Droughns for a 1 yard
touchdown run. Overall, the Giants held the ball for 39:38 and totaled 491 yards
of offense, including 188 on the ground. Except for a sloppy defensive start and
some miscue's by Manning, one fumble and 2 interceptions, they did what they had
to do. The defense was strong enough to
allow no points and only one first down on those turnovers. Next week the Giants
have another game they should win. They host the San Francisco 49ers, the worst
scoring team in the league." Early
