Game Notes:
"San Francisco surprised me when they scored so easily on their opening drive. They hadn't had any points at all in the first quarter in their first four games. The Giants came right back though and tied the score 3-3 when John Brown kicked a 22 yard field goal. I was thinking at the time that the Giants, with a 4th-and-2 at the 49er 4 yard line, should have gone for it since it was so early in the game. I guess they wanted to be sure to put points on the board for their opening drive efforts.
The Giants pulled ahead in the second quarter 13-3 with a touchdown and a field goal. The 49ers marched downfield in the last 2 minutes and got to the 4-yard line, but the Giants defense held on a 3rd-and-1 and San Francisco settled for a field goal. The Giants had one minute left and all their timeouts, and it sure looked like they were going to add some points. Eli Manning was passing for first downs almost every play on this drive, and he got his team down to the 14 yard line and had a first down. Manning threw the next pass to Odell Beckham Jr. in the endzone, but it was intercepted.
It would have been great to have added some distance, but the halftime score was still 13-7 in favor of the Giants. Then if you were at the stadium you got to see four new members inducted into the Ring of Honor during the halftime ceremony. Osi Umenyiora was one of them. You also got to see a fan decked out with a 49er jersey run on to the field in the third quarter. During that quarter the 49ers tied the game up with a touchdown, and the Giants came back with one of their own to go ahead 20-13.
The fourth quarter was wild. San Francisco tied it up again for the third time in the night before the Giants pulled ahead again with a field goal. Then the 49ers scored a touchdown to take the lead for the first time in the game and there was only a minute left. All you had now was your belief in Eli Manning to do what he has done many times before, and he came through. You could finally breathe a sigh of relief when Larry Donnell pulled in that go ahead touchdown. The 49ers didn't have very much time left to tie the score this time and the Giants came away with a 30-27 win. Thank you Giants, thank you!"

Game Notes:
"This was a different Eli Manning tonight than the one the 49ers faced last season. If you recall, Manning threw five interceptions and the Giants lost that game 16-10. Of course some would counter that this is a different 49er defense than the one that finished up with a fifth ranked passing defense and first with their interceptions. They did get Manning for one interception, only his second on the year, when he was at their 14 yard line near the end of the first half. It cost the Giants a chance to be 10 or 14 points up, if they had managed a field goal or touchdown. Instead it was a close one down to the last minute of the game as the Giants provided a thrill for all the fans, almost losing this one to the 49ers.
Manning finished up with 441 passing yards and three touchdowns while completing 76 percent of his passes.
The Giants made the 49ers relevant in this game, allowing them to tie the score three times. Their offense scored 30 points, but what happened to the defense in this game? San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick turned in a better performance than he had over the past few weeks, but his teams' 27 points weren't enough tonight. It was the highest they had scored to date, and it broke their downward spiral of 20 in the season-opening win, followed by 18, 7 and 3. Their new high in points was possibly aided by the Giants being down a few defenders for this game, missing Devon Kennard, George Selvie and Robert Ayers.
So now the Giants are 3-2 and have the lead in the division. The Eagles will have their sites set for next Monday night as they hope to share this top spot with a win over the Giants. If that happens, and the Redskins beat the Jets, it would be a three way tie for first, leaving the Cowboys in last place since they can't improve to 3-3 over their bye week. The 49ers are now 1-4 and will travel home to play John Harbaugh's Baltimore Ravens. Who do you think ex-49er head coach, Jim Harbaugh, will be rooting for, considering the way things closed out for him with this organization?"
