Game Notes:
"It was a good day to be at the stadium to watch this game. The Giants were coming off two straight wins and there was talk that were going to see Odell Beckham Jr., the first round draft pick, for the first time on the field. There had been a lot of hype about how good he could be and how anxious the Giants were to get him involved in the offense.
It was strange to see Osi Umenyiora on the field playing against us. It was nice to reflect back on all the things he did for us as a Giant over the years. Later though, in the second quarter he came up with a sack on Eli Manning at the Atlanta 35 yard line. That put us in a 3rd and 16 and out of field goal range and the fans weren't so happy and let Osi know about that.
On the Giants second drive, Rashad Jennings ground out some good yardage and even caught a pass for 7 yards. Preston Parker had a nice 46 yard catch and Beckham caught his first pass of the season, a 7 yarder for a first down. Manning connected with Rueben Randle for a touchdown and the Giants scored first and were up 7-0.
That didn't last long as the Falcons tied the score on their very next drive. To make matters worse, Parker fumbled on the kickoff return and Atlanta had it right back at the 21 yard line. The defense held and almost got the ball back when they caused a fumble, but they still did a nice job holding them to a field goal. Then Manning was moving the ball downfield when Osi came up with that drive killing sack, but Jennings caught a pass and took it 10 yards to allow Josh Brown to try a long 49 yard field goal and it was good for a 10-10 tie score. Matt Ryan didn't seem to be having too much trouble working behind his makeshift offensive line and he got his team down to the Giants 2 yard line. After two incomplete passes, the Falcons had to settle for an easy field goal that gave them a 13-10 lead at the half.
Quintin Demps came up with a nice interception to start off the third quarter, but he fumbled the ball right back to them. The defense stopped the Falcons at midfield, but Jason Pierre-Paul ran into their kicker. I was wondering about all the extra chances we were giving them in this game and on this drive, but they couldn't advance the ball and punted. The Giants made just one first down and had to punt, and three plays later Ryan connected with Antone Smith for a 74 yard touchdown. I wasn't the only fan thinking that this would be one of those games where we showed some flash but would go down, as the Giants were trailing 20-10. Thankfully I was wrong. Manning turned things around with a quick three minute drive that featured rookies Beckham and Andre Williams who took over after Jennings was hurt,
The defense was all over Ryan after that and the Giants added another touchdown to make it 24-20. Two more field goals sealed the deal and now the Giants have won 3 straight heading into Philadelphia. Let's keep this thing going!"

Game Notes:
"The Giants knew the Falcons were hurting coming into this game and they played as if all they had to do was show up for the win. As a result they were down 13-10 at the half. They played better after that, but it still took a touchdown in the fourth quarter to finally put them ahead once and for all.
You have to give credit to Atlanta's quarterback Matt Ryan who always seems to be able to make something out of nothing. This time it's injuries, but last year Ryan also had a poor offensive line that gave up 44 sacks, and they couldn't open up holes to get the running game going. Even though Atlanta's record was 4-12, Ryan still had a 67.4 percent completion rate and threw for 4,515 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Anyway, enough praise for Ryan and his group who held up well into the second half. That's when the Giants really brought it and were almost too aggressive to the point where it hurt them with penalties and mistakes as they tried to do maybe too much. The defense did however take control of the game as well as the Giants did on offense.
Despite a few lapses, Eli Manning is mastering this new offense. He does lapse back at times and I like to think of him as a card-counter in Vegas. He wants everything in his favor before he commits, but Eli come on, this isn't Vegas and the clock is running.
The Giants rushing attack, led by Rashad Jennings and supplemented very well by Andre Williams was just too much for an Atlanta defense that held up for a while, but is exceptionably weak in this area. Odell Beckham Jr. had a great first game and after a while just the threat of him running downfield caused the Falcons defense to fall apart.
I would have to say that once the Giants were up 20-17, Tom Coughlin did have a 'Jim Fassel moment' allowing Beckham to be out there for a kickoff return. This after his new toy was finally healthy enough to play and be so effective on the field. Jim Fassel lost Jason Sehorn, one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL at the time, when Fassel allowed him to return a kickoff in a preseason game no less. I don't think I want Coughlin doing this again with Beckham.
One last thought and tribute to former Giant Osi Umenyiora as his was a really big play. Umenyiora sacked Manning and the drive was cut short. It did end with a Giants field goal that tied the score, but being able to continue that drive could have made a 10 point difference. The Giants may or may not have done better to possibly score a touchdown, but the extended clock time enabled the Falcons to come back and score a field goal to go ahead 13-10. A Giants continued drive and possible touchdown would have made it 17-10 Giants at that point with not much time for the Falcons at the end of the half."
