Notes: "This was some game. It looked
like neither team could play offense for the first quarter. Eli Manning's first
pass was intercepted, and he was intercepted again in the first quarter. Michael
Vick threw an interception, and later fumbled the ball away, all in the first
quarter. Since neither team was good at hanging on to the ball, the score was
0-0 at the end of the quarter. The best thing the Giants had going for them was
Tiki Barber. In the second quarter, stuck at their own 12 yard line, they
got on a fast roll. Manning's pass to Tiki got them 18 yards. Tiki ran for 16
yards on the next play, and they surprised the Falcons on the next with a reverse
to Mike Jennings for 21 yards. Plaxico caught a pass for 15 yards. After an Atlanta
penalty, Tiki ran for 8 yards, but even with a first and goal at the Atlanta 5,
they couldn't get it in and settled for a field goal. On the Falcons next
drive, the Giants defense was hanging tough against the run, but when Michael
Vick completed 3 passes, all for first downs, they let up enough for Vick to scramble
22 yards for a touchdown and at the end of the half the Giants were down 7-3.
The Giants got to about midfield on the opening drive of the second half, and
Feagles punt had the Falcons starting off at their own 10 yard line. That seemed
great but Warrick Dunn ran it up the middle for a 90 yard touchdown on the very
next play. I was worried, but shouldn't have been, because from then on, the Giants
offense fed the Falcons a steady dose of Tiki Barber and Jeremy Shockey, and the
defense was all over Michael Vick, his runners and receivers. The Giants faced
a tough team in their home stadium, and showed they could do the job"
Game Notes:
"Once again the Giants waited until
the second half to really get rolling. Tiki Barber lit up the board with first-down
running plays, rushing for 185 yards. This was against a defense that had allowed
less than 70 yards per game. They finished off two long touchdown drives, first
with a run by Brandon Jacobs, and then with a pass to Jeremy Shockey. Shockey
caught one more after that to put the game out of reach 27-14. The defense
played a really good game except for that one lapse where they let Warrick Dunn
escape for that 90 yard touchdown. Take that away, and the rushing yards would
be 133, but of course, it does count. They got to Michael Vick seven times which
was a record number of sacks on him. This team has shown that it can kick it in
gear if it has to. I would have liked to have seen them shut down the passing
game a bit more since they allowed Michael Vick to throw the most he has all season
against them, and they have Dallas and Terrell Owens coming up next. "
