Game
Notes: "The Giants traveled
to Buffalo as underdogs and came away with a 24-10 win. Things started off with
the defense holding the Bills to a three and out and the Giants scored on their
first possession when Josh Brown hit on a 47 yard field goal. Later the Bills
tied things up with one of their own, but the next time they had the ball, Devon
Kennard intercepted Tyrod Taylor to give Eli Manning the ball at the Buffalo 32
yard line. Two plays later and Dwayne Harris pulled in a pass from Manning for
a 21 yard touchdown. The Giants stayed ahead on the scoreboard for the rest of
the game. I felt badly for Josh
Brown missing the extra point after the Giants first touchdown. His kick came
after a penalty set the the distance a bit further and you could see after the
miss that it bugged him. He had a nice streak going before that. The
Giants offensive line handled the Bills pass rush pretty well and Eli Manning
ended up with three touchdowns on the day. Eli didn't hang on to the ball that
long and took only one sack when a safety caught him on a blitz. On defense
you wonder when Steve Spagnuolo cooked up his game plan, how much of his knowledge
of Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor was added into his 'secret sauce'.
Taylor ran for just 15 yards and he had to throw more passes than in any other
game. Spagnuolo had seen Taylor in action for two years when he was with the Ravens
as an assistant defensive coach and you have to think that helped a bit. Next
week the Giants play at MetLife against San Francisco and with a 2-2 record they're
back in the mix in the division."
Game Notes:
"The Giants had a real strong first half.
The offensive line was up against a dominating blitzing defense that ranked first
against the run and the three running backs, Rashad Jennings, Andre Williams and
Shane Vereen, were averaging over 4.6 yards a carry. They already had 65 yards
on the ground against a team that usually allows just 74 in a full game. Eli
Manning had thrown for two touchdowns, hitting Dwayne Harris and Rueben Randle
without taking a sack. Manning was spreading the ball around and those two receivers,
along with Larry Donnell and Odell Beckham Jr., each had three receptions out
of four with the exception of Beckham who was targeted eight times. The defense
was doing their job. They had dual threat quarterback Tyrod Taylor bottled up
for 2 yards on 2 runs and Devon Kennard had an interception on him. The Bills
came in with the best rushing attack and rookie Tyrod Taylor was held in check,
averaging 3.6 yards a carry for 40 yards. The Bills had only 2 first downs in
the entire half and the Giants were up 16-3. After that dominating first half
the Giants stalled in the third quarter and towards the end of it the Bills had
worked themselves down to the Giants 31 yard line. Taylor scrambled for a touchdown,
but it was called back for an offensive holding call. The Bills seemed intent
on making history for penalties in this game and this one took away their touchdown.
That play could have been the turning point for them, but instead they had a 1st
and 25 at the Giants 41 yard line. They got down to the 7 yard line and went for
a field goal that missed. Early in the fourth quarter the Giants defense stopped
the Bills with a 4th down goal line stand, but when the Giants couldn't move the
ball, the Bills had good field position for their drive and scored to make it
16-10. The Giants hadn't done very much on offense this half, but that was about
to change. Rashad Jennings stole the
show with his 51-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown and it couldn't have come
at a better time. It was just the boost they needed in the fourth quarter to help
kill any thoughts that they were going to blow this game. That was reinforced
three plays later when Landon Collins and Prince Amukamara gang tackled Robert
Woods into a forced fumble that Amukamara came away with. Manning got the ball
down to the Buffalo 8 yard line and his pass intended for Randle was intercepted.
It's a good thing that the Giants were up by two touchdowns with less than four
minutes left at this point because who knows what could have happened. It was
also a good thing that the Bills played like they did. Overall the
Giants fed off the Bills 17 accepted penalties, for 135 yards and seven first
downs. The Giants can enjoy their win, but still need to work on how they close
out games."

lost the first seven games when they deferred on the toss, and have won the last
two. Giants Josh Brown had made 82
consecutive PATs in his three seasons with the Giants. Bills
17 accepted penalties broke their home
record and ranks as their third all-time. Bills
17 penalties were the highest by a Giants opponent since Washington had 17 in
