Game
Notes: "Wow! The Giants really
got it all together in tonight's game. There was just that one uh-oh moment when
Victor Cruz dropped a pass and it killed the first drive, but then Eli Manning
completed so many passes in a row I lost count. Cruz made good on his next chance,
taking it for a 36 yard gain. Tight
end Larry Donnell has proved he's no fluke and he played fantastic tonight. Donnell
caught Manning's first touchdown pass in the first quarter and then caught two
more touchdowns in the second. Coupled with the way the defense was playing and
a Josh Brown field goal, we were up 24-7 at the end of the first half. Before
you could get too relaxed, Kirk Cousins came on strong to open the third quarter.
In about two minutes he had his team downfield with two long passes and Alfred
Morris ran the ball in for a 20 yard touchdown. Jason Pierre-Paul got hurt on
that play and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
was hurt in the first half. The Giants lead was cut to 10 points and then the
Redskins defense stopped the Giants at midfield. There was cause for concern when
Cousins came out and right away threw another long pass, this time to Morris for
26 yards. A few plays later Prince Amukamara put an end to this drive with an
interception he ran back 28 yards. Manning had the ball at the Redskins 21
yard line and after getting it to the 6, it sure looked like Randle caught the
ball and crossed the plain for a touchdown before it came loose, but it was ruled
an interception by Keenan Robinson at the 1 yard line. This time it was Quintin
Demps who came up big intercepting Cousins next pass and the Giants soon turned
that into another touchdown. Cousins
was intercepted twice more after that. The Redskins never scored again and this
game turned into a party for Giants fans. I mean, when was the last time you saw
Manning run the ball in for a touchdown and see him on the sidelines with backup
Ryan Nassib out on the field running plays? The Giants are now 2-2, and 1-0 in
the division. They have plenty of time to prepare for Atlanta on the Sunday after
next and I'm hoping they keep this all going the way it is."
Game Notes:
"Before this game there was talk that Kirk Cousins might actually replace
Robert Griffin III, injured or not, because of the way Cousins was playing in
the last two games. Any thoughts along those lines will be on hold for a while.
New head coach Jay Gruden gave Cousins a chance to shine once again tonight, calling
19 first-half pass attempts and just 7 runs, almost ignoring the running game
and Alfred Morris. Any quarterback controversy might have ended with Cousins finishing
up 19-for-33 for 257 yards, 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions. On
the Giants side, Eli Manning seems to have figured out Ben McAdoo’s West Coast
offense. Manning completed 18 of his first 20 passes and the two incompletions
were on dropped balls. Tight end Larry Donnell must certainly like the play calling
adding three more touchdowns that brings his total to four touchdown receptions
on the season. Running back Rashad Jennings got a little bit of a rest coming
off his 34-carry, 174-yard performance against Houston just a few short days ago.
Tonight Jennings had 13 carries for 55 yards spitting time with Andre Williams.
Williams had 15 carries for 66 yards and he notched his first NFL touchdown, a
1-yarder in the fourth quarter. The
defense was outstanding playing against a Redskins offense that turned the ball
over six times and converted on just one of eight third downs. The
Redskins get to rest and lick their wounds, but their next task will be against
the Super Bowl Seattle Seahawks, once again in primetime on a Monday night.
The Giants can enjoy their win and have plenty of time to prepare for Atlanta
coming up next. The Redskins had some issues coming into this game so that's when
you'll get to see if these Giants are for real or not."
