Game
Notes: "OK, I watched that
game and even with my notes for support, it's still hard to believe that the Giants
actually won this one. They got off to a really slow start. The offense couldn't
get anything going and the defense couldn't get a handle on Cardinals running
back Beanie Wells. They were lucky to be down by only six points in the second
quarter. Ahmad Bradshaw's touchdown run put them up 7-6, and when a field goal
had them at 10-6 at the half, you figured that the Giants were settling in. That
feeling didn't last long when the Cardinals came back with two straight touchdowns
in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter we scored, but they scored again and
the Giants needed two touchdowns to pull this one near the end of the game, and
luckily Eli Manning was able to do that. They probably could have used
Justin Tuck in this game and I'll hope he didn't play more as a precaution than
a necessity. Dave Tollefson played well, and it was great to see Osi Umenyiora
back on the field. He caused Kevin Kolb to fumble and like Dave, he also finished
up with two sacks. Antrel Rolle started his career with the Cardinals and he made
a key play when he intercepted a pass intended for his former teammate Larry Fitzgerald.
The Giants came away with the victory to keep pace with the Redskins who also
won earlier. The Eagles and Cowboys lost their games, so all and all it was a
good day"
Game Notes:
"Well the Giants pulled it off. It certainly
wasn't their best game by a long shot , but by either luck or questionable ref
calls, they managed to escape with a win. I give zero credit to Kevin Gilbride
in this game for continually trying to force the running game to work at the expense
of ditching the pass when they were effective using that. It was as if Gilbride
under fire to get a number of running plays in to make up for earlier times when
he was deficient at doing that. Later in the game when they needed quick scores
and were forced to pass, Eli Manning did what he could have done much earlier
and he was able to put points on the board. The rushing duo of Ahmad Bradshaw
and Brandon Jacobs averaged under 3 yards a play, likely because the offensive
line still isn't able to get them the blocks they need to get started. Hakeem
Nicks had only three catches for 25 yards last week, but he was the star receiver
today, catching ten passes from Eli Manning for 162 yards and one touchdown. Victor
Cruz also did his part, catching 6 passes for 98 yards and maybe got away with
a mistake when he gave up on the ball thinking he was down by contact. The Cardinals
made a fumble recovery, but the refs supported their initial call that the ball
was dead. We'll be reading a lot about that one this week. Anyway, it enabled
the Giants to continue their drive and they went on to score what became the winning
touchdown on the very next play. The Giants host Seattle next week. Let's hope
they use the game to figure out the blocking and play calling before they face
much tougher competition." Scoring:
