Game
Notes: "All the king's horses
(Bears offense) and all the king's men, (Bears defense and special teams) couldn't
keep the Giants from getting the win. In fact all the kings - the head coach and
two former head coaches on this team - couldn't hold back a Giants team that was
back on track. The Giants defense was all over the Bears offensive line and quarterback
Jay Cutler in the first half, but our offense wasn't doing their part. All we
had was 3 points on a short field goal and a miss on another try. As much as I
enjoyed the halftime "Ring of Honor" ceremony and all, I couldn't help
noticing that the scoreboard showed 3-0. Even though the Giants were winning
on the field, it wasn't turning into a nice lead. Seeing them put together some
big plays and a nice touchdown drive to turn it into a 10-0 game in the third
quarter, made me feel a whole lot better.
The Bears managed a field goal in the fourth quarter thanks in part to getting
great field position off a fumble recovery, so the score became a precarious 10-3.
On the next drive I was really excited when the Giants were driving and Ahmad
Bradshaw was taking the ball way downfield, but then he fumbled the it away. Luckily
the Bears ended up with poor field position and the Giants were able to score
a touchdown on Brandon Jacobs 2 yard run. So finally with the score 17-3, there
was enough distance between the points, and I felt I could relax. It would have
been hard to blow the game with that score and the amount of time left on the
clock."
Game
Notes: "The
Giants defense was certainly up for this game. Osi Umenyiora led a nine sack first
half attack that knocked Jay Cutler out of the game. His backup, Todd Collins,
was also gone by the end of the game. Unfortunately, the Giants offense took their
time to get going. They had gained only around 100 yards in the first half and
you wondered if they were going to keep blowing the opportunities the defense
was affording them. Terrell Thomas had intercepted a pass at the Chicago 28 yard
line. Eli Manning's crew could only move the ball 3 yards to give them a 38 yard
attempt at a field goal which missed. Another time they were handed the ball
at the Chicago 29 yard line, thanks to a fumble sack by Osi that was recovered
by Deon Grant. That turned into a punt by Matt Dodge from the 34 yard line for
a touchback that gave it back to Chicago on their 20. On their next drive, Manning
was sacked and the Bears recovered his fumble. Once again, the defense was on
the field and this time Barry Cofield responded by immediately sacking Jay Cutler
for the eighth time and for a 9 yard loss. In the fourth quarter the Bears recovered
another Eli Manning fumble but they could come up with no better than a field
goal even though they got it at the Giants 29 yard line. By the end of this
game, the Giants had fumbled the ball away three times. I'll gladly take the win
and the improvement of the defense, but the offense and special teams need a bit
more work. We'll see what next week brings when they face the 3-1 Houston Texans."
