Notes: "It was a nice day for a football
game at the Stadium, and you were hoping to see one small glimmer of what you
saw last year from the Giants when Washington came here to play. Those first three
games of the season were hard to take. Well, the Giants didn't disappoint. The
Redskins were coming off two big wins, but the Giants slowed them down big-time.
The defense sacked Mark Brunell 3 times, and somehow made Santana Moss ineffective.
The offense controlled the ball and could have scored first, but Jay Feely
missed on a 47 yard field goal. After that, he hit on three straight, all in the
second quarter as the Giants couldn't close the deal and punch it into the the
endzone. Despite that, you got the feeling the Giants wouldn't slip up in this
game and let the Redskins back in. You felt especially comfortable when they
opened the third quarter with a drive that lasted more than eight minutes and
ended in a touchdown. The Giants went on to score one more field goal in the fourth
quarter and by then so many people felt comfortable, they had left. The Giants
are back!"
Game Notes:
"The Giants dominated this game
19-3 by holding the Redskins offense to just 164 total yards. The time of possession
was close to even at the half, but by the end of the game, the Giants had the
ball almost 10 minutes longer. On offense the Giants played a very balanced game,
with Brandon Jacobs spelling Tiki Barber at times both running the ball, and catching.
Eli Manning was very efficient throwing short and long. Amani Toomer made some
tough catches and had the most receiving yards with 81, and Plaxico Burress was
the most used target with his 7 receptions, including the touchdown catch.
The defense kept the pressure on Mark Brunell and he completed only 12 passes
for 109 yards. Santana Moss caught 3 of them for 39 yards, his lowest output in
both categories this season. This win was against a division rival and came at
a good time. The only thing you could have wanted was to see them finish off some
of those drives that ended up as field goals." Early
