Game Notes:
"Carolina was the home
team this week which held a greater advantage than in a normal seven day
schedule. The Giants barely had time to practice and prepare before they
were on their way. It looks to me like they did some preparation long
before they cleaned themselves up last Sunday after fighting to win against
Tampa Bay. Even with that they couldn't have thought that they'd have
someone like Andre Brown sitting in their back pocket. Last week
Brown emerged in the nick of time when Ahmad Bradshaw went down to help
win their game against Tampa Bay. This week without Bradshaw he was the
starter, and once again used his straight ahead running to to put up 113
yards and two touchdowns.
He wasn't the only one getting a chance at a starting role. Ramses Barden
was the second receiver opposite Victor Cruz and he came up big as well.
He had nine catches for 138 yards, and Martellus Bennett continues to
be reliable and come up bigger every game. He has one touchdown in each
game he's played for the Giants . No doubt the guys will sleep well on
the plane ride home, dreaming about what they accomplished tonight and
how they have a nice long time to prepare for the division game against
the Philadelphia Eagles."
Game Notes:
"The
way the Giants discovered Victor Cruz last year, they have unearthed another
diamond in the rough - Andre Brown. At the end of the half he had 96 yards
and on touchdown. He completed the night with 113 yards and two touchdowns.
The Panthers zeroed in on Victor Cruz, so Ramses Barden sparkled as well
as he caught all seven passes tossed his way for 123 yards. He finished
with 9 catches for 138 yards, which was the same amount he caught all
last year in eight games for 96 yards.
The Giants came into this game looking to be at a big disadvantage on
offense with Ahmad Bradshaw, Hakeem Nicks, David Diehl and Domenik Hixon
ruled out but they had aces up their sleeves and trumped the Panthers
in all stages of this game. The defense came up strong and by the half,
Cam Newton had completed only 5 of his 12 passes for 90 yards and had
one interception. His quarterback rating was just 33.3. Steve Smith had
just one catch for 13 yards and the Panther's running game totaled 45
yards.
Meanwhile Eli Manning had 192 yards and one touchdown after completing
18 of his 24 passes for a quarterback rating of 111.8. The Giants had
the ball for nearly 20 minutes of the 30 minute half. From everything
you saw on the field and with the score 20-0 this game was really over
at this point. Later on Eli Manning even got to sit out some of the game
as David Carr came in to replace him. He probably didn't know what to
do with himself not having to pull out a game in the fourth quarter, but
that's the way it goes sometimes although not often enough."
