Notes: "Wow, what a game and
it was filled with a lot of surprises. Who would have thought that Aaron Ross,
who was effectively benched last week for his gameplay, would be the spark for
this game? The first points came as a result of his interception, after Eli Manning
followed that up with a pass to Brandon Jacobs that went 40 yards for a touchdown.
The Giants were up 7-0. Who would
have thought on the next drive that Victor Cruz would be taking a pass 74 yards
downfield past the Eagles elite secondary and in for a touchdown? Yes, the way
things started out, who would have thought that the Eagles would then quiet the
Giants offense for two full quarters and score four times to take a 16-14 lead
heading into the final quarter? It was time for Victor Cruz to come up big
again and score the second touchdown of his career (against the Eagles no less)
on a 28 yard pass from Eli Manning. Now, who would have thought the Giants would
decide to go for 2 points, their being ahead in the game and with lots of time
left to play? Not me. After the Eagles first drew a penalty the Giants got the
two when Brandon Jacobs took the ball in and the score was 22-16 instead of 21-16.
Go figure. Now backup quarterback
Mike Kafka took the field instead of Michael Vick, nursing a broken right hand.
Who would have figured that Michael Vick wouldn't last the game against the
Giants coming off his latest beating and concussion last week? OK, just about
everybody. Anyway, it was time for Aaron Ross to show off his skills again, and
he intercepted Kafka's first pass. That led to another score when Eli Manning
tossed one to Ahmad Bradshaw for an 18 yard touchdown. It was now 29-16 and so
it really didn't matter if the Giants went for two points or not earlier. After
the two minute warning Kenny Phillips decided he had enough of Aaron Ross's antics,
so he decided to intercept a pass thrown by Mike Kafka and that was it for this
one. The broadcast schedule has
worked out well once again for many Giants fans. They get to see if the division
leader Redskins can hold up against the Cowboys tomorrow night on Monday Night
Football."
Game Notes:
"Michael Vick decided he could play this
week and put himself up against the Giants heavy hitters. It did not turn out
well for Vick or his team. After being battered about, he left the game in the
third quarter with a broken right hand. Same as last week, once Vick was gone
from the scene the team seemed to let down like dogs pining for their master.
The Eagles scoring stopped and the defense gave up points. It went from Eagles
up 16-14 to the Giants winning the game 29-16. With all the talk about 'dream
team' is this any team at all without Michael Vick? They
may find out the hard way since he's in for a bit of recovery. Coming up the Eagles
face San Francisco, Buffalo and Washington before the Bye week. Eli Manning
deserves most of the credit for winning this game. He was able to recognize and
use any means available to him to keep the ball moving and score points. He ignored
the Eagles hype and hit his heavily covered receiver Hakeem Nicks for 3 catches
and 25 yards. He turned an inexperienced Victor Cruz into a hero, tossing 3 passes
that went for 110 yards and for 2 touchdowns. Manning included Jake Ballard and
Brandon Stokley and even his running backs became touchdown threats as Brandon
Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw each caught one. The defense had it's hands full
with Eagles running back LeSean McCoy. He proved hard to take down and at the
half he had 15 carries for 88 yards and 1 touchdown, and had pulled in 2 passes
for 8 yards. They slowed McCoy up in the second half, but he turned in a nice
performance, moving the chains and he finished the game rushing for 128 yards
and a 5.3 yard per carry average. McCoy's touchdown was the only one scored against
the Giants defense, which kept Michael Vick and Mike Kafka to just less than 200
yards in the air for no touchdowns and 3 interceptions." Scoring:
