Notes: "It was a bit cool at
the stadium but a real nice day for a football game. You already know the score
and the results so I'll just point out the things that got me going as I watched
today. The crowd was thrilled to see Kevin Boss make his first catch of the day
and take it 54 yards as the Titans defenders struggled to bring him down. Wow!
At the end of the second quarter with the Giants trailing by seven, Mario Manningham
made a great sideline catch to stop the clock with 42 seconds left. That was followed
by Ahmad Bradshaw running off a draw play for a 10 yard touchdown and a 10-10
tie score. At that point there was another half left to play and I thought
the Giants would get it all together. They had played a sloppy game so far but
looked to be the better team on the field. The next highlight for me was in the
third quarter watching Ahmad Bradshaw run the ball about 20 yards to the Titans
6 yard line - closed my eyes on his fumble on the very next play. Finally Mario
Manningham's 25 yard catch that got the Giants to the Titans 44 yard line gave
me hope but that drive ended with a missed field goal after yet another mistake.
Lawrence Tynes saw his 38 yard attempt turned into a 43 yarder on a delay of game
penalty. Most of the fans hung it up when the Titans chewed up the fourth
quarter clock and scored another field goal to make it 22-10. If you hung in after
that you got to see Kareem McKenzie lose his cool to draw his second unnecessary
roughness penalty. It put Manning in a tough 3rd and 25 and that helped kill off
any faint chance the Giants had to pull this one out. The Titans added a touchdown
after that to make it 29-10. The Giants have a week to figure out what kind of
football team they want to be when they play Chicago."
Game
Notes: "What
you saw today was a Tom Coughlin coached team way out of control, and out of control
teams don't win many football games. The Giants put up less points (10) than the
penalty flags they earned (11) and as a result lost a game they could have won.
Eli Manning threw exactly twice as many passes as he did last week for a better
completion ratio but with worse results - zero touchdowns and 2 interceptions
(386 yards on 48 passes, 34 completions). Things looked bad in the third quarter
when Eli Manning hit Mario Manningham for a 44-yard pass down the sideline and
the play was called back because Ahmad Bradshaw was flagged for a chop block in
the end zone. That resulted in a safety, but Bradshaw really killed the next drive
with his fumble at the Titans 5 yard line. The score was a a manageable 19-10
at that point but the players were unmanageable. Their lack of putting team first
above their feelings kept them from
scoring any additional points while the Titans added 10 more and this game was
over. One of the things I don't get
in this game is why Coughlin tried that extra long field goal early on when they
were down just 3-0. What has Tynes shown in the past that encouraged that decision,
and the result gave the Titans great field position when he missed. Kevin
Boss was one bright spot today. They sure could have used his help last week blocking
and making catches like he did today. The
Giants biggest tasks were to shut down running back Chris Johnson and get to quarterback
Vince Young. Next week the task will be to simpler, to try and behave like professional
football players." Scoring:
