Game Notes:
"This was the second home
game and the Giants didn't disappoint the crowd this time. Did they make
you worry and ask yourself, 'Do we go through all these ups and downs
every season? Of course the answer is 'Yes!' It's unbelievable agony,
and like 'Fifty Shades of Grey', secretly you love it. You are a Giants
fan through and through and you want all the thrills they throw your way.
You were down at the end of the first half when the Giants looked to overcome
some mistakes and close things out with a score that would have them either
leading by 20-17 or just trailing by 17-16. Instead Eli Manning's third
interception was returned for a touchdown and the score was a gruesome
24-13 in favor of Tampa Bay. A few of your players were knocked out at
that point including your leading rusher, Ahmad Bradshaw.
You felt worse when Tampa Bay put the score more out of reach on their
first drive with a field goal to make it 27-13. You were elated when the
Giants finally tied it up midway in the fourth quarter on an 80 yard pass
to Victor Cruz, and then when they made the two-pointer to put the score
at 27-27.
Things looked great when Martellus Bennett caught a touchdown pass from
Manning and the Giants were up 34-27 with only 4 minutes left. Of course
the Bucs tied at 34-34 with 2 minutes left, but this is what you live
for. You're at the edge of your seat as Andre Brown does his own Ahmad
Bradshaw imitation but doesn't fall into the endzone for a touchdown that
could leave the Bucs with too much time. Brown scores on the next play,
and you go wild! It's great to be a Giants fan!"
Game Notes:
"It took halfway through
the second regular season game for the Giants to shake off their post
Super Bowl jitters or whatever you may call it. The Giants are back. Eli
Manning is back. Victor Cruz is back. Hakeem Nicks is back. Andre Brown
is more than back. He looked like a go-to running back instead of a special
teams player when he came in for Ahmad Bradshaw. Bradshaw had 16 yards
on his 5 carries before leaving with a neck injury in the second quarter.
Brown ended up with 13 carries for 71 yards and his first career touchdown.
He also caught both passes tossed his way for 19 yards. Expect to see
more of him.
In this game, by the end of the first half, the Giants owned time of possession,
passing yards, rushing yards and first downs. Unfortunately the Buccaneers
took ownership of three Eli Manning interceptions and cashed in on each
one of them to the tune of 21 points giving them a nice 24-13 lead. The
Giants had dug themselves into a hole and were slow coming out of it.
In the third quarter all they did was match field goals with Tampa Bay.
They waited until the fourth quarter to explode with a field goal and
three touchdowns. Without Manning feeding the Bucs interceptions they
were out scored 28-10 in the final two quarters.
Manning's passing yardage was amazing. He had 510 yards which tied with
Drew Brees for the eighth-most in any game. Hakeem Nicks (199 yards) and
Victor Cruz (179 yards) benefited the most with Martellus Bennett (72)
doing his part and all three had touchdowns. David
Wilson wasn't as much a factor in the running game with his 6 yards on
3 carries, but he did well as a kick returner averaging 28.7 yards on
three of them. The Giants saw
David Diehl, Ahmad Bradshaw and Domenik Hixon leave this game early, but
they still had a running game and there were no sacks on Eli Manning."
