Game Notes:
"Well, you were hoping to see a continuation of what you saw last
week from the Giants on defense and a little bit more from the offense.
Considering the level of opponent the Giants faced today, that shouldn't
have been a problem. But the Giants made it look that way considering
the score was only 13-6 at halftime, and it wasn't until the fourth quarter,
when the Giants exploded for 21 points, that you felt you could relax.
The Giants running game seemed to be stopped, but Plaxico
Burress and Amani Toomer were catching pass after pass. The defense was
holding them, and let's face it, the Giants seemed to be winning in all
areas of the game, but you still need to put those points up for it all
to matter. I mean, coming into this game the Rams were last in the NFL
in total defense, and next to last in total offense. After today, their
numbers probably won't raise them up very much if at all. I'm glad we
turned it on in the end, but come on Giants, next game against Cincinnati,
I'd like to be able to feel a bit more comfortable by the start of the
3rd quarter when I look up at that scoreboard.
BTW - Looking over the scoreboard tonight, it sure looked like Mikefan
called it right in the preview when he pointed out that 'Only NFC East
Teams look to be able to beat NFC East teams'. It stands that way going
into week 3."

Game Notes:
"The Rams certainly weren't
very competitive against the Eagles. Against the Giants, they showed that
like any pro football team, they could hang in even just by kicking very
long field goals. Kicking two 54 yard field goals kept them close so that
the score was 13-6 at the half. The
Rams, playing in front of their home crowd, showed some life when Chris
Long - Howie Long's son and the 2nd overall draft pick - got the first
sack of his career against Eli Manning. I was thinking the Giants were
looking really slow on offense in that second quarter and they even drew
a delay of game penalty. Bad habits from last season still linger it seems
because that play clock seems to tick real low at times before the Giants
snap the ball.
The Rams defense was also containing Brandon Jacobs. He had average numbers
in the first half. I would say the Rams felt pretty good at the half being
down by only 7 points and even having Manning throw with his left hand
to avoid a sack. In the 2nd half, Brandon Jacobs showed the Rams defense
that there was no stopping him, and his numbers shot up to what is normal
or better than normal for him. He averaged 6.2 yards a carry when all
was said and done. Still, St. Louis held the Giants to 7 points in the
3rd quarter and closed the gap to 20-13 in the fourth quarter when Torry
Holt fought for a ball in the endzone with safety Kenny Phillips, and
hung on for the touchdown.
Here' where Tom Coughlin really let me down. On a play like that where
it seemed like the ball hit the ground, you have to call for a replay
challenge. It sure looked like it wasn't a touchdown to me and letting
the Rams get that close in the 4th quarter sure seemed like a big mistake
the way this game was going. Rams head coach even threw his flag when
he thought his guy touched Steve Smith's foot. All that bought him was
the Giants still getting the first down, but less yardage after the catch.
Meanwhile, we don't even try to have a touchdown called back?"
