Giants come back in overtime
for the win 30 - 24. Eli Manning was 31-of-43 for 371 yards, 3 touchdowns
and 1 INT. Amani Toomer caught 12 passes for 137 yards and 2 TDs. Plaxico
Burress caught 6 passes for 114 yards and 1 TD. Tiki Barber rushed for 51
yards on 21 carries. Tiki Barber also caught 7 passes for 57 yards. Brandon
Jacobs rushed for 35 yards on 5 carries. Osi Umenyiora had 1 sack. Tim
Carter recovered a fumble by Plaxico Burress in the end zone for a TD. Jay
Feely kicked a 35 yard field goal to tie the game in the 4th quarter. Game
Notes: "What a game! It opened with
a fight on the first play, and even though it looked like the Giants had lost
all their fight until halfway into the third quarter, the defense finally held
the Eagles, who had scored on them nearly every time they had the ball. The Giants
offense got in gear and came back with 17 hard-earned unanswered 4th quarter points
to tie it up and send the game into overtime. That 4th quarter seemed to last
forever. It had the Giants going for it on 4th down, and the Eagles going for
it on 4th down on the very next drive. It had Jeremy Shockey's first catch of
the day and Chris Snee's 2nd penalty, with Coughlin maybe filling out divorce
papers on the sideline for his son-in-law. It had the Giants defense stopping
the Eagles, and the offense continually moving the ball and chipping away at the
score. The Giants didn't put you fans through all that for nothing, and they left
something for all the Eagles fans to remember deep into December when these two
teams meet again at the Meadowlands. It was the sight of Plaxico Burress jumping
up and coming down in the endzone with the ball. A nice 31 yard pass from Eli
Manning, thrown while backing away from a pass rush, for the winning touchdown.
The Eagles will always have 'The Fumble', and now the Giants have theirs. Call
it 'The Comeback'."
Game Notes:
"The Giants were well on the way
to being 0-2, just an overtalented team that can't pull it all together. At the
start, the Giants were making it look easy. The opening drive took all of 7 plays
as they marched downfield 67 yards in 3:25 and Toomer was holding the ball in
the endzone. At that point, the Eagles were crying 'Bring back the Texans', the
2-14 team they stomped into the ground last week. Unfortunately, the Giants
defense obliged them, playing as badly as they could with no pass rush and a porous
secondary. The refs might have taken away an interception by Madison. Coughlin
challenged it to no avail, and on the next play, Brian Westbrook ran it in 12
yards for a touchdown. The game belonged to the Eagles after that, and by
the end of the half the Giants had netted only 20 yards since their opening drive,
only 6 first downs to the Eagles 16, only 89 total yards to the Eagles 309.
The Eagles scored on their first possession in the second half to make it 24-7,
and then the Giants turned it all around with a late 3rd quarter drive. By
the time it was all over, Eli Manning had thrown for 371 yards and 3 touchdowns
despite being sacked 8 times. Manning threw 25 of his completions to Amani Toomer
(12 - what a game Toomer had - great concentration), Plaxico Burress (6- great
hands and great reach), and Tiki Barber (7 - doing more in the air today than
on the ground). Jeff Feagles had an outstanding game, with 8 punts for a 43.5
yard average." Early
