Giants move on to the Super Bowl with a 23-20 win over Green Bay. Eli Manning
was 25-of-40 for 254 yards. Brandon Jacobs rushed for 67 yards on 21 carries
and 1 touchdown. Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 63 yards on 16 carries and 1 touchdown. Plaxico
Burress caught 11 passes for 154 yards. Amani Toomer caught 4 passes for 42
yards. Steve Smith caught 2 passes for 25 yards. R.W. McQuarters and Corey
Webster each had 1 interception. Lawrence Tynes kicked field goals of 29 and
37 yards, missed on 43 and 36 yarders and then made a 47 yarder in OT to win the
game.
Game
Notes: "So the Giants won. Well, did
you have any doubts? Just kidding of course, because this game turned into a real
close-your-eyes, I-can't-look, cliff-hanger. The Giants were in control of the
game from the start, but weren't putting many points up. They had just two field
goals, and you knew that Brett Favre was itching to wipe out the Giants six scrawny
points with one good pass play, and that's just what he did. A sudden quick strike
to his receiver Donald Driver went for a 90 yard touchdown, and then they increased
their lead to 10-6 with a field goal right near the end of the half. Points
went up faster in the third quarter. The Giants took the lead with a touchdown.
Green Bay took it back with their next touchdown, and then the Giants scored another.
In the fourth quarter, Mason Crosby's field goal for Green Bay tied everything
up at 20-20. Lawrence Tynes missed on his next two (43, 37) field goal tries,
and that put the game into overtime. On the second play, Corey Webster stepped
in front of Donald Driver and intercepted Brett Favre's pass. The Giants had the
ball at the Packers 34 yard line. You were hoping they could make at least one
first down here, but they were only able to move the ball up 5 yards. That meant
that Tynes would have to make a 47 yard field goal after missing those last two
shorter ones, but guess what? Take your hands off your eyes! He did it, and now
the Giants move on to the Super Bowl!"
Game
Notes: "The offense did a great
job all game controlling the ball using their mixture of Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad
Bradshaw. Both running backs came away with touchdowns in this game. Eli Manning
was on target despite the cold, especially to Plaxico Burress who caught 11 of
Manning's 25 completions. Except for one big play, the Giants defensive unit
came on strong right from the start. They held Green Bay to just 27 yards in their
first eleven plays until that 90 yard touchdown. They never let Brett Favre make
any other big play, and intercepted him twice. Domenik Hixon played great on special
teams, and you have to say that the Giants are as ready as they'll ever be to
take on New England next. As we said last week, it was time for the Giants
to avenge the second game loss to the Packers
in this NFC Championship game, and then if the Patriots were still around, end
their perfect season in the Super Bowl." Early

Notes: Giants
have won every single road game since the season opener against the Cowboys. This
was the the third-coldest NFL championship game ever played. The
2007 Giants join the 1985 Patriots and the 2005 Steelers as the only teams to
win three road playoff games to reach the Super Bowl. Giants
will face New England, the first team to go 18-0, in the Super Bowl. Next
