Game
Notes: "It was a Giants game,
so of course you have to expect that anything can happen. How often does Tynes
shank the ball off to the sidelines to give an opponent a generous start at their
40 yard line? How often do the Giants get gypped by the refs on bad calls? OK
that happens, but how often do you see Eli Manning pass a ball downfield to a
receiver where he pulls a ball to his helmet and makes a big play? OK, I've seen
that before too, and wow! That Hakeem Nicks catch in the endzone, and the way
he did it, sent chills up my spine as I'm sure it did to many Giants fans.
It probably sent fever chills to all the Green Bay players as they headed off
to the locker room at halftime, probably shaking their heads that they were fighting
destiny. Green Bay came back with a field goal in the third quarter, but the Giants
matched that in the fourth and the lead was always ten points or more after that.
Only real true fans thought the Giants would be able to beat a top team like the
15-1 Packers in their own stadium and if you're reading this, I guess you're one
of them. I'll talk to you next week after the San Francisco game."
Game Notes:
"Much like it's been on the shoulders
of Eli Manning all year, it's been the same way for Aaron Rodgers and sometimes
one man can't do it all. Rodgers did his best with receivers dropping passes and
he still completed 26 of them for 264 yards and 2 touchdowns against one interception.
Rodgers also was responsible for scrambling for a number of first downs and he
became the Packers leading rusher with 66 yards on 7 carries. The Giants defense
did their part, making things hard for the talented Rodgers. They managed to sack
him four times and knocked the ball from his hands once for a fumble. They kept
his receivers covered and Rodgers was limited on his downfield throws. They let
running back James Starks hit them for a 29 yard run, and Ryan Grant had one for
19, but they were otherwise limited to 28 yards on their other 12 attempts. Looking
at the big picture, they forced turnovers and limited an offense that usually
scores 35 points a game to just 20. Eli Manning did his usual great job, having
to rely on his receivers as once again the running game wasn't working. Ahmad
Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs combined for 85 yards on 21 carries, but basically
they had two breakout plays that netted them 38 yards. You love big plays, but
as far as helping to move the chains on a consistent bases they gained 47 yards
on 19 carries or about 2.5 yards an attempt. The Giants did what they had to
do today. It was a big task, but the question is can they continue this roll they're
on with a just a one sided offense? Can they make it work in San Francisco next
week? Scoring:
