Eli Manning was 15-of-29 for 169 yards and 2 INTs.
Brandon Jacobs rushed for 92 yards on 19 carries
Derrick Ward rushed for 46 yards on 12 carries and caught 5 passes for
24 yards.
Kevin Boss caught 3 passes for 52 yards.
Domenik Hixon caught 2 passes for 37 yards.
Amani Toomer caught 2 passes for 26 yards.
Steve Smith caught 2 passes for 17 yards.
Darcy Johnson caught 1 pass for 13 yards.
Kevin Dockery and Fred Robbins each had an interception, first time in
their careers.
John Carney had field goals of 22, 34, and 36 yards, but missed on 2 others
of 46 and 47 yards.
Game Notes:
"The game started great with Ahmad Bradshaw returning the kickoff
65 yards, and maybe last year's
playoff Giants would have come away with a 7-0 lead, but this year's offense
never really got it going today and they settled for 3 points on a field
goal. It looked like Eli Manning wasn't on his game for the first half
and it never got any better after that. I don't think that the Eagle defense
was as much of a problem for the Giants as them not being able to do the
things they normally did during the regular season. I guess the week off
had more of an effect on them than I thought it would. Brandon Jacobs
certainly looked fresh. Fred Robbins had a shoulder problem, and he came
up with an interception, but Justin Tuck's knee problem looks like something
that will take the full offseason to recover.
The Giants defense needed to
stop Westbrook and the running game, and give them credit for doing that,
but they still couldn't get after Donovan McNabb, a problem for them all
this season. The Eagles scored 23 points and without the Giants offense
coming up with much, that was the game and the end to a season that held
a lot of hope for the Giants this season. The Eagles were just a little
too much for the Giants to handle without someone like Osi Umenyiora on
board, but that changes next year. For now, Giant fans, if they like,
can root for ex-Giants quarterback Kurt Warner next week when the Cardinals
play the Eagles."
Game Notes:
"Tom
Coughlin decided to have the Giants start off this game going into the
wind on offense. It didn't work out all that well for Eli Manning, but
I can't get too down on Coughlin,
because let's face it, Eli just didn't have it today. Manning finished
up going 15-for-29 with 2 interceptions, and his passes never looking
good. One of the things that always got Eli back on track this season
was being able to toss an inaccurate pass or two to Plaxico Burress, and
Plaxico hasn't been around for awhile if you haven't noticed. You might
also notice that without him, the Giants are not the same team. So next
year, definitely don't let Plaxico carry a gun, but so what if he skips
practices and comes late to meetings, just let it go or spend the offseason
getting a suitable replacement.
Except for the Giants defense
having to come on field to try and stop the Eagles on their own 2 yard
line, they did a great job in the first half. However Steve Spagnuolo
has some explaining to do about the way he had them defending at the end
of the period. In an effort to 'avoid giving up the big play', they allowed
Donovan McNabb to march downfield in the wind and and steal an easy 3
points and take a 10-8 lead into halftime.
Still that's not bad, but they never got any help from an offense that
was 3 of 13 on third down plays and 1 of 3 on fourth down over this game.
They could run the ball, but
you can't run every play and expect to make first downs. The passing game
was no threat to the Eagles and they welcomed it. During the regular season,
Eli Manning completed 60.3 percent of his passes for a career high, and
he threw only 10 interceptions. He's never been known to be a spot-on
quarterback and in this game he completed 15 of his 29 passes, and had
2 interceptions. Those numbers don't get you too far in post season play.
Maybe the Giants should have built a dome over the new stadium if they
plan to win with his arm and with no no long armed receiving threats on
these bad weather games at home."
