Game
Notes: "Do you rest players or do
you play them? There was lots of talk about that and injuries and momentum this
week. Well the Giants strong showing against New England sure didn't seem to carry
over, and Tampa Bay owned the first quarter. Eli Manning's group couldn't get
anything going at all against the Bucs defense. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay's offense
chipped away at the Giants defense, moving the ball, and making first downs until
they scored a touchdown on their second possession with less than two minutes
left in the quarter. That's when things changed. The determined Giants decided
to 'make momentum' out of nothing, as soon as the second quarter started. For
the first time the defense held the Bucs to a 3-and-out. Then a 17 yard Eli Manning
pass to Amani Toomer got them a first down for the first time in the game. Manning
finished this drive off from the Bucs 5 yard line with a short pass that Brandon
Jacobs carried in for a touchdown. The score was 7-7 when the Bucs took over,
and the Giants defense had them 3-and-out again. Jacobs scored on the Giants next
drive, this time with an 8 yard touchdown run. Then a Tynes fieldgoal in the third
quarter made it 17-7. When the Giants chewed up the last part of the third
quarter and almost half of the fourth with a nice long 92 yard drive, you knew
the Bucs were done. That was a 4 yard touchdown pass to Amani Toomer, and the
Bucs were now looking up at a 24-7 scoreboard. The Giants eased up on defense
to prevent a big play, and this allowed Tampa Bay to move the ball, but at the
expense of the clock. Jeff Garcia's touchdown pass to Alex Smith for 6 yards and
Matt Bryant's extra point made it 24-14 and that was the end of the scoring for
this game. Now I think the Giants are ready to face the well-rested Cowboys."
Game
Notes: "Once they got past the
opening quarter, it was another strong game for the Giants, and they finally did
it. They won a postseason game with Tom Coughlin as the head coach and with Eli
Manning at quarterback. Last week when they lost to New England Eli, outplayed
Tom Brady. This week he outplayed Jeff Garcia, and if you think about it, he even
outplayed his older brother Peyton. Eli has cracked his first playoff win in just
three tries and it took Peyton four. Now do you realize that the Giants may
have a chance to erase almost all their mistakes from this year? They lost twice
to Dallas in the regular season and have another shot at them next week. If that
works, they could possibly end up playing Green Bay for the NFC Championship and
who knows? Another win and maybe it will turn out that they'll face New England
in the Super Bowl. Now that would be some way to end an exciting football season." Early
