Game Notes:
"It was a really cold windy day
at the stadium and so terribly important for us to beat the Eagles for
a number of reasons besides the obvious ones, possibly making it into
the playoffs or at least finishing with a win at home, and with a record
over 500. First off, Andy Reid's Eagles have gotten the drop on us for
the past few years in our matchups. including the one this season.
If the Giants had won that game they would be 9-6 and tied with Washington
for the division lead and totally not be in the position they were in
today. Michael Vick was on the field then and now, and it was only a fluke
that had him starting in this game. This would likely be his last in a
Philly uniform and the last one coached by Andy Reid. It would be fitting
payback to take this last game of the season.
Things started with Reid pulling one of his tricks, a surprise onside
kick that worked, and it gave them the ball near midfield. Vick immediately
went no huddle and quickly came up with a first down on our defense which
was caught off guard figuring they'd be on the bench for a few plays with
the Giants receiving the kickoff. I had visions of the Eagles zooming
down the field with all of today's hopes going out the window when Stevie
Brown came up with an interception.
That led to the Giants scoring first, second and third, all touchdowns
in the first quarter and this turned out not to be much of a competitive
game with the final score being 42-7 in favor of the Giants. Watching
the scoreboard was no treat for any freezing fan as the Lions were down
20-3 to the Bears at one point and the Giants needed them to win to have
any shot as a wildcard team. The Lions came back and were down just by
two points, 26-24 at the end of the Giants game. That became the final
score, so today's win was exciting but bittersweet, and like the rest
of you I'll dream of what could have been until next season when I expect
them to play like they did today in each and every game - I'm a fan!"
Game
Notes:
"The Giants let their chances
for the NFC East title slip away and so they were down to having to beat
Philadelphia today while hoping that Chicago, Minnesota and Dallas all
went on to lose so they could be the No. 6 seed as a wild card.
As you were busy rooting against a lousy 4-11 Eagles team, you also were
rooting for another 4-11 team to play way much better than their record.
The Giants did their part, starting out this football Sunday with a win.
Meanwhile watching the scoreboard you saw that Detroit was not doing it
for you and they came up short. What can you expect anyway from 4-11 teams,
but to lose and finish the season at 4-12? The Giants
got off to a 6-2 start and for a while they looked good as the defending
Super Bowl champions, but lost five of seven games prior to today to finish
up at 9-7 keeping them only in as possible wild card contenders. That
lasted less than a half hour after their final win as Detroit failed to
complete the crazy wildcard math formula for them.
Now it's time to just sit back and enjoy football for football, the wildcard
games, championship games and the Super Bowl, while all the teams look
over their casts and crews and get ready to make changes for next year
that will have them knocking on that Super Bowl door. The Giants will
be one of those teams and the way it looks, the offensive line and the
overall defense will be scrutinized the most."
